Seun go and interview the president. My Edo State is at peace, and we are the only state paying 40k minimum wage. So we can do better. 70k is no issue if a governor decides not to steal.
An excellent prodding and drilling of the governor on the nitty gritty of governance in Edo State. And undoubtedly the governor represents the way governance should be conducted in the country. He clearly saw the malaise in President Buhari economic policies. Moreover, he has repositioned Edo State for further economic development. In addition, he carried out critical reforms policies in the state, and revamped abandoned and neglected infrastructure. Furthermore, he created enabling environment for future improvements, including embarking on new projects. Also, he displayed empathy for the civil servants in the state to mitigate the negative economic impact as a result of currency devaluation. Most importantly, he reduced corruption and minimized or possibly, eradicated the insecurity in the state. In fact, he is workers friendly and the construction of the labor house is to give voice to the labor movement in the country. However, Edo State was fortunate enough to have him as their governor. Bravo.
@edirindafe1210 Where were you when he increased it in 2022 to 40k and he has been successfully paying without owning any worker. Go find out too how he is not owning pensioners ...it will be sustainable as long as you don't have thieves and those that will appease political godfathers as governor.

Even federal government hasn't increased beyond 30k since HE Gov Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki made bold since 2022 to increase Edo state minimum wage, "make una dey get sense, make pipo no go dey laff una and una family"!

There is nothing wrong with what Governor Obaseki has done here.Inflation has increased and automatically Govt automatically must increase the salaries of workers to match up with inflationary trend. That is standard basic economics.However, I have always been concerned about the state of some of the roads in Edo state(my wife is from Auchi) but my views were allayed when Obaseki presented a clear statistics that all the 90 percent of the untouched roads are federal roads.He has tried his best and i wish the next Governor all the best.Obaseki is still better than my own Ogun state Governor who doesnt know what he is doing.
President tinubu, promised to give Edo state back to Oshomole and we all know, what he knows how to do best when it comes to power grabbing. Obaseki and Edo people must be aware this.
What's surprising in this. Are these people okay at all. This is a great thing to do for people by someone that truly has conscience and feel for millions of masses in abject poverty currently. So what's surprising here. Even this minimum wage should be increased to be able to cater for the current situation of millions of nigerians suffering seriously currently in this country. All these state allocations are more than enough to pay workers a very good salary by all these governors and still cater for all other needs of each state. It's very glaring that a lot of people had been brainwashed truly including those TV presenters all over nigeria. What a shame !!!
Ondo is having elections at the same time. Let the governor even try the 40k minimum wage Edo state has been receiving for two 2 years now,if it's for election.
There are so many dilapidated schools in Edo State. This is a fact because there is a community in the United States that I know of that had raise fund to replace the roofs of the buildings in the secondary school after the government has failed to maintain the school. The school in question has only three teachers that are being paid sometimes from donations from their diaspora. All the Governors developments have been focused on Benin as if it is the only city in the State. Increasing the minimum wage to N70,000 only means something to the civil servant. While the Government is not responsible for payment of salaries in the private sector, any minimum wage whether or the state on National level should be enforced for all workers in the state meaning employers in the private sector should be included in meeting that requirements because it is a law. If the Governor did not consult with the private sector on the minimum wage increase he has sectionalized the people that he is supposed to govern on equal basis. Every citizen of the state is going through the same hardship regardless of who they work for or party affiliation. There are a lot of infrastructural decays across the state that make development in the State to be far behind other states in the country. Developments seen only in Benin. The schools and roads which most need within the state are horrible. Lack of these amenities along with healthcare system is more important to the citizens than announcement of wage increase most especially when a lot of people have no jobs. Therefore the governor must understand that not every community within the state careless about this wage increase when schools, healthcare facilities and roads are deplorable. It is election time in the state so the governor has to find an opportunity to blow his horn.
Have you visited Edo recently? No gov in Nigeria can boost of doing all schools to standard ,the gov has done his bite. The gov increased wages to 40k ,when their IGR increased, then to 70k now what's bad in that . If it's for elections, why is Ondo state that's having an election at the same time not doing the same for his people for votes if it's that easy.
Good one but is 200k even worthy of living wages considering the economic situation of Nigeria. All the states need to do more in IGR so that they can pay workers worthy wages. Also, add subsidised transport and mortgage plans for them. With Nigeria's minimum wages, it will be hard for people not to steal or beg. These governors need to really ask themselves is fair. Meanwhile, zero-brain politicians are swimming in millions of dollars like Yaya Bello. Unfortunately, this is the true state of our people.
