I switched from Canon R to Sony a7iv because canon banned 3rd party lenses for RF. Bye bye Canon. I have same lenses Sigma 35 and 85 f1.4 DG DN. Best combo.

I run the A7R4 and since I love landscapes and architecture (this includes real estate work) most of the time you will find my Sigma 14-24mm DG DN F2.8 attached to the body. It's super sharp and gives a real unique perspective the subject matter. For portrait work I fluctuate between my Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 and the Sony 70-200mm F4. On occasion I do enjoy shooting wildlife so for that I went with the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports Lens.

I’ve recently done the same! It was a decision I’ve been contemplating for quite some time. My only camera currently is a Fuji XT3. My next camera system will be a Sony kit. I’m carefully trying to decide on which body. Their lens selection is incredibly. Sony has more 3rd party glass & great original glass at a variety of prices! I wish I made the switch years ago! Happy shooting!!

Hey man, I have a EOSR but I really want to get the Sony A7c for the compact body and the more wide selections of lenses. What are your thoughts so far? How was the switch for you and you think it’s worth the switch should I try to buy this Sony A 7C and keep my R or try to trade in the R? I mostly want the small form factor to vlog with and carry with me on the go to college and wherever else the EOSR body is to bulky and not adding the lens to. LOL let me know your thoughts I would love a feedback.

I use the a7iii, but I was not expecting you to pull out the exact 3 lenses I own. I literally only own 3 and its all 3 of these, the sigma 28-70 was my first. 85 came next then my 35. I was considering selling the 28-70 as I always find myself picking my primes first but maybe ill try it out a bit again because it is a nifty little lense to have in the bag!

Currently running 2 x Canon M50 bodies and multiple EF-M lenses. I love the form factor. Super small, light and lenses are cheap for their relative quality/optics. However with Canon not investing in the platform, it's a big jump from EOS-M to EOS-R in terms of price when it comes to eventually upgrading. Also as you mentioned with Canon now allowing 3rd parties to manufacture lenses for the RF system, I too have decided to move to Sony when the time comes. That might be a while away though as I love the EOS-M system and have shot some incredible images with it

I’ve got a similar setup and it’s literally a dream combo. Most days I’ve got the FX3 with Sigma 16-28 and A7iv with Sigma 28-70. That’s pretty much all I need. If I want primes, I’ll bring the Sony 20/1.8 + GM 35/1.4. And if I can only bring one camera + lens it’s the A7iv with Sony 24-105/f4. The two “specialty” lenses I use infrequently are the 90/2.8 macro and 70-200ii with 2x teleconverter. Having third party options is a HUGE advantage for Sony.

Very interesting to hear and learn what you’ve done. I’ve been straddling the Canon and Nikon systems. Due to having a box of great L ef lenses, i opted for the R6, but haven’t been loving it. I owned the Nikon Z6ii for. About 9 months with just the kit lens, and was wowwed by that (vs the R6). I use wide angle lens sometime but not often. In this case I dont't want to invest in Canon RF lens. I prefer the third party lens for lower price. Now I have Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 and I pay only US$570 (it is used lens with remaining 4 months warranty). Last year I sold R5 and switched to Sony. The main reason is that the RF Mount lens choice is very limited even Canon did not announce to ban the third party lens yet in the last year. Besides the third party lenses for E mount, the second hand market of Sony camera and lenses are very huge. Now I have confidence that I am going on the right direction. Pro Choice.

I actually switched from the R5 to a7iv. After 1 week of the honeymoon phase I started missing the R5 badly and here’s why: - AWB is inconsistent across most of the photos. Some have a heavy green tint and some don’t. Meaning more time fixing it in post. - While the colors are much better than previous Sony’s I’ve owned, I still didn’t like them as much as my Canon files. - The Eye AF was not as good as the R5. The AF in photo mode is just not as good, accurate or intuitive. The R5 could get my face/eye from a distance even in wide af. On the a7iv, you have to set the zone or be close. Even then it’s always a hit or miss. Tried 2 different a7iv bodies with 70-200 gmii and had average results. - If you’re shooting fast fps action photography, the buffer fills up quick and is slow to clear with v90 sd cards. Have to use a cfexpress type A card for good speed. And even then, you can only shoot 6fps uncompressed. The good: - 32 MP is the sweet spot - Better lens selection (cheaper, smaller and 3rd party lens options). Their 20 f1.8, gm 24 f1.4, 35 f1.4, sigma 85 f1.4 all much smaller and affordable than the Canon counter parts. - Better Dynamic range - I found slog 3 to be better than clog 3 for video use. 8 months later, I switched back to the R5 and couldn’t be happier. I did give Sony a fair shot, but it just wasn’t for me, at least for photos. I do miss their smaller F1.4 lenses though

@Kaisolostudio

You’re comparing 2 very different cameras; the R5 is $3,900 USD & the A7IV is $2,500. Of course the R5’s the better camera lol, you should instead compare it to the A9ii if you’re worried about FPS and autofocus. The R5 was cannons flagship mirrorless camera for a while, just like the A9ii; whereas the A7IV was only ever an entry level hybrid camera.
@volodymyr.mksmchk
@volodymyr.mksmchk Год назад
@@Kaisolostudio would choose R6 over the AIV at any time. Still got the RP and it`s a fantastic camera for it`s price. I think that all of this videos are pure speculation. There are a person here that want to sell his 2 R6, 2 R and many lenses for what? You will just loose your money on system switch to gain nothing. Also, budget rf lenses are perfoming great - 50 1.8 on rf is simply better than sony FE 50 1.8 - sharper, smaller, faster. 35 1.8 on RF is great and sharp. 85 f2 - it is OK, in many scenarios it is actually great. For example on wedding day I can shoot wedding rings close with out changing lenses to macro - 85 got my back! Anyway, Sony has a great system, but Canon is much more simpler and intuitive for me.
@doktorr23
@doktorr23 Год назад
@@Kaisolostudio Not really. The AF system and the FPS you get on the cheaper R6 is the exactly the same as R5. Only difference w.r.to photography between the two cameras is 45 mp vs 20 mp. So my complaints regarding the A7IV would still be the same even if I compared it with R6.

I feel the same way. I love my R6 but I hate the 3rd party block. I would like to upgrade my tamron G2 zooms and it’s sucks the only native options are mega expensive. I hate to loose money to switch. I do have a smaller Fuji system for personal travel and street and love it. My Canon system is for pro level stuff. I may really consider switching to Sony from Canon though because of the weight savings. My right elbow has really caused me pain the past year or so. The Sony system has much lighter and smaller lens options. I do notice when I shoot my Fuji stuff, im okay for the day. I start lugging Canon stuff, it gets sore. I wish I could be brave and stick with Fuji for everything but I’m still not convinced about shooting Fuji on low light and for more action stuff.

not here to convince anyone but for my own use the A7IV did not do it after 12 months of use. All recent cameras/systems are great but all the little buggy things just added up after 1 year use. Glad I kept my Canon while testing Sony for a year. This is my second attempt but seems my eyes, brain and fingers like the Canon better. The A7III only lasted 6 months before. Now shooting R5 and R6mk2 and sold all Sony except the G 200-600 lens which I will keep a little longer just in case a sports Sony APSC shows up. I will also rent the new A7R5 and see how it does for wildlife and birds in flight with the 200-600 zoom and also see if video IBIS is better at 600mm where the A7IV was very jerky. I hear the IBIS is improved over the A7IV. Image wise the A7IV was excellent especially with the Sigma 24-70 F2.8 its just sux that OIS is not available on many of the Sigma lenses. I hope the new Sony 20-70 F4 will have OIS. It would make it an ideal travel lens. Because I shot hybrid a good lens stabilization is important to me. Most current RF lenses have good OIS. My applause to you with your call that Canon's made a dumb decision and it's time to part way with company walking that path. Nikon treated the matter a tiny little better but they still sued sigma for stuff so they're not fully different to Canon at all. My guess it's probably sony behind tamron(which sony owns shares in the latter) and Nikon stroke a partial deal for tamron lens to at least be allowed to rebrand by nikon into their systems. (sony has been known to work with and influence nikon behind the scenes, think the entire XQD card thing, nor mentioning supplying and co-working with nikon on sensor developments) But still better than what Canon did. In all honesty that I now maintain 3 systems in each brand in possession, I still prefer my Canon and Nikon's image rendering better than my sony shots. Canon's zooms are still slightly better than sony to me. And nikon has always been slow to release the butter and milk body to compete. Sucks that Canon chose to operate that way. Now that you're in the sony camp, I strongly recommend you to try a few lenses, they'll open your eyes for sure. 1st is 135GM F1.8. That is ONE hell of a lens that I'll still keep even if ended up selling my entire sony system. That lens has became a drug to me know. For a substitute, samyang makes a 135mm 1.8 as well. It's about just as sharp but has some other optical weakness given the pricess point for sure. Another thing I recommend you to try out is the entire Zeiss batis prime lens line up. To me the batis line is the best thing to ever happen for the Sony system.(sucks that zeiss is rather dormant in this market now.) Arguably they pump out the best color rendering on sony system, being small and compat, yet extremly solid in construction and ruggedness. The only downside for those are that they are not the fastest in their respective focal length. But their wide open image quality are so good it makes up a big part for lack of extreme aperture opening up capability. It's something unique to the sony system and a gem to miss out. You'll know it once you open your raws in front of a good screen that they're something special. I actually adapt all these lenses mentioned on to my Nikon body with an adapter for the best of both worlds as I much prefer Canon and Nikon's image rendering. RF and Z mount being still only few years old just lacks the latest version of these lenses to compete. Before anyone mention though, I don't find myself align well with the behemoth 1.2 primes both in price, weight and sizes, but I digress. Do give these lenses a try, they're sure at the minimum worth the time
@SeanNeale
@SeanNeale Год назад
Seeing your lens collection kinda vindicates Canon's decision to lock out the system from third parties. When Sigma, Tamron, etc are releasing such high quality lenses for half the price, not many consumers are going to touch the native lenses. Which is a huge loss for Canon. But I completely understand that as a consumer you don't need to support their stand point, especially as others are offering arguably more compelling options.
@ABarrera

Um it actually proves that Canon's decision was wrong, because he just shifted away from Canon to Sony. Any future purchases will likely be for the Sony ecosystem (apart from products bought just for testing purposes). The lifetime value of a customer is worth much more than short term gains. I'm also now in the process of selling Canon RF gear and shifting to Sony, and will plan on purchasing both 3rd party and GM lenses.

How many people complaining about what Canon is doing are iOS users? Isn't it true that hardware to run iOS must be purchased from Apple? Don't get me wrong, although I'm using all Canon lenses, I definitely see the benefit of being open to 3rd party lenses. But don't forget the closed architecture systems you already support each time you use an Apple product. Why is it OK for Apple, but a bad thing for Canon?

When I watched your review of the Sony GM 1.2 50 mm vs. the Canon RF 50 1.2; you clearly stated and showed how the Sony was superior in several ways. If you want versatility + great price for the R system, just buy used EF lenses. I've bought all RF lenses (50mm 1.2, 28-70 2, 24 79 2.8, etc) and sold all of them for EF lenses with the adapter with built in ND. The EF lenses work great with the R5. Also, the wide RF lenses with IS are terrible for video, the wobble drives my crazy! That being said, I woul live to test the FX3 for video.

I respect your decision to make the switch but I cannot appreciate it. :) Why should you be bothered by what Canon has been churning out with regards to their APS-C R series cameras? I disagree that this will affect their full frame sensor camera road maps. In fact, I am very impressed that Canon has been churning out many RF lenses over the last 3 years or so, despite the supply chain issues we are currently experiencing worldwide. If Canon could satisfy you with what you already like, I cannot think of why one would want to make the switch. So you are probably feeling disgruntled you cannot get to use a specific lens on your Canon body.. :) I was thinking before the video you would switch to a Fujifilm for a more compact and lightweight system. In fact, most people have done that. But Sony? Errrrmmm.. YUCKS! I own Sony gear myself and I am looking to sell them away. I can never like their complex menu system. Their LCD colors and resolution totally suck! I think you know it by now. :) I guess it's the same with the A7IV. It makes judging images very misleading.
