Why I left the UK. 

You guys are the best. Honestly, thank you all so much for the kind words! I can't wait to show you our new place. In the intro I made the mistake of saying "hundreds of thousands" instead of "hundreds and thousands", which is quite different! In the UK, I was paying around £3.5K a year in tuition fees and as I'm from a low income family I was taking well over double this in maintenance loans - so as you can imagine, it adds up. Tuition fees are now around £9K a year and architect's salaries have barely changed. Students decide to take on this debt at 17... Should I make a video on this?

Just left Britain for southern Italy where my wife comes from. I don’t regret it for a second

Such a cool video. As a Canadian, Vancouver is always a place to aspire to live in because it is so unreachable to most due to its high living costs. It is interesting to see your perspective where Vancouver is considered a budget alternative to UK!

I am 35 years old and left the UK around 8 years ago. I moved to New Zealand and managed to get a permanent residency visa, so I can come-and-go as I wish. I am a fully qualified and experienced brewer/winemaker. I have very recently come back to see my parents and work a vintage while over here. ... I was considering staying but having seen what this place has become while I have been away that is not happening barring a disaster in the family. I will book a flight home after the vintage is done, spend Christmas with my parents since I've come all this way. After that, in the new year... I'm off again. This country has fallen, and no government can fix it. If you are young and able it is time to be brave and venture out into the world.

I would love to see a course on building design principles for an ordinary person. I am moving to France later in the year and buying an old house to renovate. I want to change the layout and alter the back of the roof to let more light in. I am meeting an architect in September when in France but I dread the bureaucracy involved. That's exciting man, I'm happy for you. I own a publishing business and was able to move to rural Kentucky, USA for a lot less money than I would have staying in Oklahoma City. I built a 2400 sq ft studio for my business and also have 33 acres along with it.

Though uni is my number one priority I always wonder what if XD. Congratulations on your move! Sounds like it's a really good decision for your family. My husband and I live in downtown Vancouver (across from the main library) and if you need any help or assistance, we'd be delighted help out.

There's an older British couple that I follow that moved to Canada to just find out that they like the United States way better. Now they end up spending half of the year in the United States traveling through the warmers southern states that stay warm in the winter and they love it. They love the better whether they love the cheaper food the cheaper alcohol the cheaper everything.

I understand 😊 I left the UK 27 years ago to live in Sicily. A wonderful lifestyle, relaxing+ about 11 months of sun. I think people should take the plunge and go for it ❤

Welcome to Canada! I've been subscribed for awhile; live in Calgary, Alberta - province next door to BC and have travelled to Vancouver for years on business. Love love love it, just can't afford it. Yes it is pricey but it has a great architectural and design vibe if you ever want to do a contract a local firm. They do work all around the world. Great LRT and lots of bike lanes. You will be very happy there, but it does rain a LOT.

I have wanted to move to Vancouver for so long…. But I don’t think it would be so easy for me as it was for you since your wife is originally from there.. it looks like such a cool city, and so much great architecture to see there.

I have two older brothers who left London for jobs, and they both are back with horror stories to tell. One went to New Zealand and the other to California. Now one is back in London as happy as can be, and the other now lives in Devon, moving abroad can be great but many people do have horror stories and do return home.

Moved to Australia in 2017.........never look back

Trying to convince the family to emigrate as, yes, you get much more bang for your buck elewhere. Canada is gorgeous, you're in the the city but have that wonderful outdoor life, fresh air and stunning landscapes! Again, congrats for living the dream, and yes for how RU-vidr's make the mullah - I thought you guys were rolling in it ;-)

Some cities like London are overrated. They're awesome if you're wealthy, otherwise everyday life becomes a problem: cost of living, commuting, crowds... Sometimes we need some external pressure to make a move. It may be painful at first but it pays off really soon. Also downsizing is another great way of making space for the new. Well done you! We moved out of the UK after selling my business because I just couldn’t be there anymore. The UK was an easy option for us and is easier to live but it no longer felt like home, my birthplace, so had to go. We now live in Garrucha in Spain and my head is now straight. Feel for, happy and feeling the sun on my face makes me feel well.

Hello from Cyprus Daniel and family. Bravo on the decision you both made. Takes faith, strength and courage. I love your videos especially because you are down to earth and give a lot of useful advise. We moved to Cyprus from Dubai and in the last two years moved to a small village for the same reasons you moved to Vancouver. Downsizing while renting was not that challenging, finding a permanent home for everything we decided to keep in a semi furnished house without wardrobes, however still is. You’ve helped me. Thank you.

I got a huge smile when you zoomed out and mentioned Vancouver; the map of Vancouver hanging aside your desk now makes perfect sense! Great city to live in and it'll feel cheap compared to London. If you haven't already visited, I suspect you'll love Dr. Sun Yat-Sen garden and pay the admission fee for the garden (not just the free park). It took me to sell my UK home, purchase a complete new one in another country, to move back to the UK 3 years later, to open my eyes and appreciate what I already had. We all have our own personal reasons for relocating to different countries other than the ones we grew up in (and that is great, for life experience) but we need to understand our reasons for doing so. I would always advise anyone to do so, but it's not a 'holiday,' so understand your reasons for doing so.

I am disappointed that you aren't going ahead with the garden office build as I was certainly looking forward to seeing that. It was giving me a lot of inspiration for my own garage in the city. Vancouver has some amazing food that I'm sure you'll get to experience. One of the things that you won't find on most recommendation lists is to enjoy a movie at the Twilight Drive In theatre in Langley. If you have a car, it's a lot of fun for a date night. I’ve been watching your videos on RU-vid for a while now and was amazed I’d never seen this one. I’m very interested in what you do, as I am in a similar situation, having moved out of a very big home I had inherited from my parents and into smaller and more suitable lodgings closer to my children. Funnily enough, I started off studying architecture, too, and also had a professor tell us that most of us would get nowhere once we were finished - and the architecture curriculum included a lot of classes that I absolutely hated. I ended up doing something I enjoyed more and don’t regret it a minute. I’ll be interested in seeing what you do and how you continue. Just left the UK to move back to Canada (very fortunate to have dual citizenship) cause the political and economic state of the UK is in absolute shambles. I was so shocked to see how low the wages are and the cost of living is way too high. However I will miss the £40 return flights to Europe hahah

We ditched the UK too. And moved to Denmark to pursue a career in art, as we're both artists. We could barely afford life in the UK, and now we got a brand new custom built house, we finished in 2020.
