Ghanaian and African immigrants go through so much and still maintain their work ethic. We are truly survivors and don't make excuses about the obstacles we have to face.

oh my goodness, Derrick has made tears fall out of my eyes; my heart has just been crying through this interview. I am so pleased you have shared your experience - many people are sold the delusions of abrokyi as the land flowing with milk and honey and risk their life to access it. It is clear that God has been with you and guarded you through it all because the outcome for you could have been drastically different and we hear about it here. If you have the funds to pay 'connection man', use that funds to invest in Ghana and secure your livelihood instead of risking your life. His story is very inspiring. Us immigrants are very resilient. It’s amazing the human capability when they’re put in tough situations. The grass is not greener on the other side...The first part of his story sounds like when I first went to the US.

Wow...Derrick Owusu, you and l share a similar story. I went to the UK in 1986 and lived there for 9 years. I slept in someone's kitchen for 3 weeks, squatted in abandoned homes for 2 months before things started working out for me. I'm currently in the US and have been here since 1995. Of course my life here started similarly, but for the past 25 years I've been blessed beyond measure. Things have been great here, thanks to the Lord. I'm currently planning to retire and return to a Accra with my American wife in 2022. However, I'll be visiting Accra in April 2021 and I plan on coming to your gym to work out. Looking forward to meeting you and working out, and trading stories about our hardships in the Diaspora. You're right, I would advise all our young men to do their level best to make it in Ghana. If Ghana was what it is now, I never would've left. Living in the diaspora hasn't been easy, but life in the 80s Ghana was worse then. Our beloved country has a lot to offer our young men and women now, so we must tell our stories and encourage them to appreciate it and help build Ghana for the better. I'm coming home next year to prepare to do the same when we finally relocate in 2022.

Waoo. Such a testimony. This guy reminds me of what I exactly went through in London. I used to TAKE the same bus (w3) from wood green, through white Hart lane to Northumberland park. Last stop, 31 Kenneth Robbins house. I came back from work one day and my uncle, who was hosting me at that time told me to move out in three hours . I remember sleeping on the 149 bus that night before moving to 21 damask cresent, close to canning town station in East London. I really thank God for how far he has brought me. I went through the same experience..

Typical struggles of being abroad. Even if you come to live with someone planned on arriving the story turns on its head.. Everyone has a story of how their life has panned out abroad and strange to realise we all have similar issues.. Tough.. I am mentally getting ready to go back to 🇬🇭.. After nearly 2 decades. Home sweet home 🇬🇭

Your story should be made into a movie because this is precisely what happens when one travels abroad. Travel and see is not everything that those who travel abroad tell people when they come back to Ghana. Ghana is a paradise the people of Ghana must make it better by working hard. I had a similar experience with the Army didn't know what I wanted to do so they put me in the Infantry, hardest thing I have done to date. I wish him all the best.

Obimanso stories , bro tell them if they think is more greener on the other side, think again. I don't like the question asked, why going home ? Home is home no matter how it look like, home is where you get your strength , energy and vitality , you can't trade it for anything.

At least he made back home, for most of us we can't afford a ticket to visit, even we have been here for many years.

All now I am still in SHOCK after hearing his story because by rights, this handsome young man should have been a broken person with such bad luck following him every day... GOD is so good... 🙏🏽🙏🏽

People were kind in those days... a guy I didn't know took me in, gave me a place to sleep. I also ended up joining the British Army and served 8 years. The guy who took me in got deported to Ghana and I have been looking for him just to say Thank you, but I'm still looking for him.
