I think Yuuko is many people's favourite character, because it is primarily her kindness and accepting nature that allows Nano to realize that the key is part of herself. She is also the central character that glues the two main trio's together, without her they would probably never become as close friends as they did. Yuuko is not just resident Baka, bad luck magnet and hilariously inept at anything school related. She is also incredibly kind and selfless deep down and I think it's a characteristic you should not overlook when talking about her. As for who is my favourite character, I would say both Yuuko and Nano, because the show would not work without either of them.
Nano is such a good character, they all are. I love the moral of nano and Mio both being ashamed of themselves and trying to hide those aspects, but for nano it's something she was born with and for Mio it's something she's passionate about. And they eventually both learn to accept themselves through the support and unconditional acceptance of their friends. "my ordinary life" is in fact a fantastic name for the anime because every character has their oddities but at the end of the day they're also all completely within reason personality-wise. I like to think of Nichijou as a recounting of Yuuko's memories in her head as an adult (as she teaches her class of students who remind her of herself and her friends)

I actually never watched azumangadaioh. I kinda just skipped to nichijou. Fantastic show 9.9/10. 10/10 if it gets a second season. But it's probably going to be like no game no life. By the way. Points for effort on trying to pronounce Japanese words. You pronounce them good for a person who hasn't learned it! 8/10.
I recommend Azumanga Daioh so much! You will cry at the end. Nichijou animation is way better.. but Azumanga Daioh has such a whole other level of wholesome. Barely saw the series last week, but wow... it's a must watch friend!
Nano and Yuuko are the true "main characters". They're the core of Nichijou and all scenes that focus on the two of them together are the most important in the anime.
