Why I Love Teaching in Korea

It's hard to explain why we enjoy teaching so much. Really, it's the students that make going to work so much fun, but that's not an easy explanation either. So, here's a short video to try to show why teaching in Korea is so fun.
This is a really special video for us. We hope to show how awesome our students are, and how being able to have fun with students like this makes teaching such an awesome job that we feel lucky to have.

Hey Simon. I just wanted wanted you to know that I saw this video shortly after it came out a few years ago, and it's the reason why I decided to become a teacher. Now, I still have a year left of high school, but I can't go a day without thinking what it'll be like when I do start teaching on down the road. I plan on teaching (hopefully) high school English in either Korea or Japan, and I've been a huge Nasty for at least three or four years now. I just wanted to say thanks for kick starting my dream into action, and that you guys are the bomb-dot-diggity-com.
@speakevermore

Good luck putting your dream into action! There will be good experiences and bad experiences with teaching, but dont be discouraged from doing what you love
@amc3

You will find that to teach English in Japan you usually need a couple of years experience of teaching in another country. This is why so many English speaking teachers start of in Korea. Many schools and hogwans are now employing native Koreans to teach English, so positions for foreign teachers are lower than even about 5 years ago. But don`t give up on your dream. You will achieve it.

This video was absolutely beautiful. I seriously almost cried. I just can't watch it without a smile on my face. The students look so excited and like they really trust you and love you. I know that's got to be really rewarding for you and though I know teaching is difficult, this is so encouraging as I begin the application process to teach in Korea. Thank you so much, Simon and Martina and your amazing students.

***** Many Koreans don't come home until 9 or 10 because of hagwon which is called a tutoring school but is basically just more school. I'm Korean but I live in America now, but I know my cousins and other teens back in Korea go to school for about 15-16 hours a day. It's not generally just for "hard workers" but most students due to the harsh education system we have there.

I remember first watching this video when you first posted it ^^ I really wish I could go to school in a place like Korea because they seem to push you more on studying but at the same time everybody has a lot of fun together and have close bonds. I don't feel like I'm learning as much as I want to here in Australia and some students really have no respect for the teachers and always distract the classes stopping me from learning -_-'

Well... I'm studying Pedagogy in English at university, so hopefully, I'll be an English teacher in the future... Notice that I'm just 19 and I graduated from highschool in 2012. A few hours ago I had a conversation with my parents about withdrawing the career to get a translation degree somewhere else. I've been to classrooms and I've had students as well because I'm a private English teacher, but I've been seriously over thinking about it because I'm still young and highschoolers are like... My age? I don't know, but I feel like that. I was seriously thinking of withdrawing the career, but now that I watched this video... Wow. I'm thankful I watched it, because it reminded me of why I wanted to become a teacher. My little brother has Asperger, and he's really clever and has a really unique personality, but he doesn't do well on his exams, because he has a type of nervous anxiety and he forgets all he learned when sitting an exam, he also has ADHD which it can't be treated by taking pills. My reason of why I want to become a teacher is to help those guys like my brother, because they must be valuable in whatever they want to. I also experienced a student being expelled during my practicum in a public school because of his bad behaviour, and I really had hopes of him doing well since he acted so nice around me and started learning English when I came in (English is quite horrible in public schools here.), but they didn't even gave him a chance. I want to save kids like him, because I know one by one we can make a change. Thank you, Simon and Martina.
