Long beach blue / act / harmon Kardon stereo and sunroof / big brakes and apple car play ticked on the spec sheet.
Here I talk you through spec, ownership, modifications made including ohlins road and track suspension, eibach lowering springs, remus exhaust and ghost immobiliser to name but a few.
2 years and 20,000 miles... Time for a change???

Great video - love seeing others that are also in love with the M2C - I sold a M4 (too big) Went to a Porsche 917S that became as you say a garage queen. When a M2C came available with a canceled order at my BMW dealer I jumped on it and just logged one year w. it as a daily driver. I can tell you every day I get in this car I can not wait to drive her. She is the ultimate M car in my opinion.

Have had my OG M2 from new for 4 1/2 years now and can’t find anything to replace it with for sensible money - bang for buck and smiles per mile they are brilliant - if you want fast then electric will out sprint anything - but who wants a car with no soul?! The M2 is a great package for our roads - fast - small and manoeuvrable - Love ‘em!😃👍

I am at the same point as you. Owned it for 4 years now. Did 10 drift days with it. I dont know which car can replace it, im still hooked and very satisfied with it. Thats why i will now not daily it any more and i think, keep it forever. A Cayman is better in corners but worse to drift and everything else despite being more expensive is not as thrilling to drive or too expensive for me.

Had an LCI for 4 years now. 27k miles, been to the alps to many tracks and I still love how it drives. It’s a nutter of a car, currently running Michelin ps4S, braided brake lines, ferodo ds2500 pads, stage 2 bm3 with upgraded charge pipes FMIC and VRSF sports cat, sounds nuts and goes nuts. Great video again! I’ve just passed 1,600 miles in mines, mostly motorway so far unfortunately but I totally agree every time I’m in it, it just feels special and I haven’t even started to modify it in any way yet A set of coilovers is definitely on the list though, thinking Ohlins too, Nitrons I think will be too track focused for what I’ll be using the car for

Like a trip to Litchfield for example? I certainly don’t feel like I ‘need’ it now but something I’ll probably look at after another year or so of ownership

I've always been a bit confused why the 140 was considered a hot hatch. To me, a hot hatch was always something like a 2 door Escort MII RS 2000, or the 2 door Escort MK 4 RS Turbo, or later, a sporty 2 door Fiesta (XR2), or even later, a 2 door Focus ST (which later were only available as a 4 door I don't know why). These cars (other than the later) all had something in common (other than being Fords). This being, they were 2 door, sporty, and with a sloping rear window. The kind of car you bought as a carefree teenager or young adult with zero kids, dogs, or responsibilities. Nowadays, kids go mad for 4 door 1 Series 'hatchback' BMs which to me - with it's near-vertical rear window, is basically an estate car - and examples with 4 doors would be best suited for a family with a dog to boot. I mean, wtf?? Surely the 'dream' should always be a 2 door coupe......I mean, an estate is about as sexy as a granny in bloomers! This is why - amongst many many other reasons - the M2 Competition is such a cool car......it's an M, it's compact, it's a 2 door with a proper boot lid, and it's a powerful Coupe......the quintessential young carefree sporty 2 door car that reflects a time in your young carefree life when nothing else matters in life other than the car you drive. Where did it all go wrong?

M2C is a sweet spot of a car. Small. Fast. Engaging. Useable. Not too expensive. Good looks. What else for the money does all that!? My mum has a Porsche 718 Spyder. It’s fabulous but my M2C is more of a hoot at road speeds more of the time.it’s not all about outright speed, it’s about how the car makes you feel and that’s where the M2C is hard to beat. I just need Ohlins & SS top mounts for a more compliant ride and a better front end. Happy days

I feel your joy as a fellow M2C owner, they really do get under the skin! I think the M2 OG was blue for launch colour but the M2C was HS? Totally agree on the MPSS in the cold and wet, spin city even in third! Neighbour with an M2 OG said Michelin 4S with a slight increase in size transformed his so may investigate. Biggest shock for me was the ‘M-Tax’, jeez the parts really are massively more than say they m-lites (had a M135i) - the obvious being the exhaust rear section with circa £500 for the m-lite and over £2k for the M2C. Really liked the vlog on suspension secrets and considering them for a refresh of the settings as they seem to transform cars with their knowledge. As for what next (my car is also over 2 yrs old) like you I’m struggling but I do have an itch for a 6 pot manual Cayman - work commute (when ever I get back to office working) is only 5 miles away so the practicality is less of an issue. Finally, thank you for sharing the vlogs, they’ve been particularly useful given the challenges we’re all facing - good luck in the new year and hopefully upwards and onwards for you and the family. Cheers, Kevin.

The daily usable chassis, the minimal but thick interior, and even the chunky door always invite out for a fun drive on B roads. It's a brilliant car that BMW don't make often. A lot of comments on here about the PS4s tyres, Personally I didn’t like them on the M2. The car was on the Litchfield AST suspension kit with PSS tyres and and was a absolute blast to drive,was so much more composed and gave you lots of confidence. I then moved on to the PS4s and all that was lost, steering response as speed was vague, on fast bumpy Uk roads it never felt settled and the rear end kinda felt like the tyres were under inflated accelerating out of corners. I tried many different pressures and changing dampers settings and couldn’t get that confidence back. Then last summer I bought a new set of 763m wheels that came with cup2 fitted and that was a total transformation back to how a M2 should feel. I would like to try some BMW star marked PS4s as they used a Cup2 construction but unfortunately not available in stock M2 sizes.

I have a M2C as well and I have to disagree that the stock suspension is geared towards understeer. On-throttle the car always looses traction at the rears first, even if you just touch the throttle ever so slightly. Under braking the car can of course understeer if you're asking too much of the front axle. But I'm just an amateur track driver so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I'm still a long off of figuring out the subtleties of this car. I do agree that it's a frightening car sometimes yet absolutely incredible to drive.
@CarMadDad
@CarMadDad 2 года назад
I hear your point buddy and always value opinions… HOWEVER if you mess with the geometry you will quickly see how the front axle is geared away from maximum potential and towards what manufacturers deem safer (under steer) If your ever at a track day I’m at your more than welcome to have a try 👍

Informative video. Nicely done. Mine has 14k miles on it. It’s a great touring car and daily driver. I think that’s where it truly shines. It’s become a special find in the times of COVID. Agree if you can only afford one car to drive this fits the bill. For the price point not many comparable cars out there. Question: why did you remove the Ohlins R&T?
@CarMadDad
@CarMadDad 2 года назад
Cheers for the views and thoughts Sandeep. Ohlins came off for servicing (they need it every 15k) Back on now - oh how I missed them!!!

@@CarMadDad that’s a very short service life. I’ve had those in other cars and lasted longer. Bit surprised.

Why are you back on the original shocks ?

The Ohlins needed a service chap. Every 16km so they have been away getting some TLC. Back next week and can’t wait 😜

@@CarMadDad ah ok it s just because you speak so highly of them that you really made me think of doing that mod, but back eibach springs lol. So for servicing you have to dismantle and send them every 15k?

This is an exceptional example of a video someone you don’t know made about the car you just bought and makes you to feel you did everything right. Thanks for your open and authentic style, this is one of the best ways to motivate yourself to buy an f87 M2c. ❤

Fully agree with everything there. I’ve been fortunate enough to own and drive quite a few cars for my age and have to say the m2 has something that most don’t. I’ve settled with an LCI m2, incredibly capable on fast B roads and a sense of occasion when driving slow. Sure gets expensive when the modifications begin though

Cheers for the view and comments Tom. Huge fan of the OG - part of me misses my LCI 😔

First! Great review. Do you feel like the LCI or the comp is more engaging to drive? Also which car do you feel gets more attention?
@CarMadDad
@CarMadDad 2 года назад
Wow - there’s an open ended question chap. The LCI will certainly have you “on your toes more” and for lower road mileage and track work will be more than suitable with a few subtle mods… But I would back myself on the road to be faster on the road or track in the comp - both are immensely engaging to drive so I do t think there is a better vehicle in this respect 🤔 🤔 🤔

I’ve added some TS860 winter tyres - incredible wet weather and winter grip, but still playful. Great video!
