I had this system in my home and it works. Later in life I was a pest control tech and installed this system with great success.

Bait stations and liquid treatments each have their place. Any pest control professional will tell you that the liquid treatments are much more effective and should be used, if possible. The best analogy I could make about the two systems is that the liquid treatment is like a placing razor wire around your house as far as termites go, and the bait stations are like landmines. Also, typically a pest control company will tell you that a liquid treatment should protect your home for up to 10 years (sometimes more depending on the climate). But companies (like mine) like to sell bait stations because we charge annually to come and inspect them every few months for activity. So it's really six one way, a half-dozen the other. But like you said at the beginning, if you don't like the idea of a lot of chemicals around your home bait stations might be your best solution.

I would have to disagree with you. I have been a termite professional for over 13 years and have done plenty of both liquid and bait treatments and would by far recommend the baits over the liquid. Liquid treatments are far too likely to be disturbed and cause a break in the barrier.

The chemical has no effect on the property, it doesn’t eat away at the foundation, doesn’t kill plant life, in fact it not only kills termites it kills lots of other insects. Most companies will use a product called Termidor, which is great for ants. The company you used for the liquid treatments most definitely also has the bait stations. But just because you have subterranean treatments, or bait stations. Doesn’t mean you won’t have any termites, drywoods do not come from the ground and require a completely different treatment.

What I don’t understand is why would you add termite bait around your house to attract termites. Trench line around your house and dumping chemicals to create a barrier is the right way to do it. The job does have more labor but it does protect your home. Termites will still get inside the house even if you have bait stations.
@vanessatyler617
@vanessatyler617 3 года назад
It doesn't attract termites. The only thing that attracts termites is termites; their pheromones. You're likely to have termites in a home's lifetime, the tunnels filled with those pheromones will lead them straight to bait after the first termites find it. So the termites are leas straight to the bait moving forward. The bait kills the colony 100% of the time. You have no way of knowing your liquid treatment is successful. You have to use your home as collateral (bait) and HOPE you see the termites when they infest.
@mrfaust8602
@mrfaust8602 2 года назад
there isnt any " attractant" to termites. Termites tunnel blindly through the ground until they find a food source, ie wood, whether its a tree, stump, or some sort of structure, once they deplete that food source they tunnel out in all directions until one finds another food source, they then use pheromones to tell the others and the process repeats, once a colony reaches a certain size it begins to produce alates, and once every one to two years will release swarmers to create new colonies.

We've had this system for 4 yrs. $1300 to install and a $300 annual fee after that. I haven't seen any termite activity since. (The initial and only clue was termite wings in the house.) I am tired of paying $300 a year, though. Seems too pricey to me. I'm thinking of switching to a cheaper yet effective alternative.

$300/year is cheap vs what termite can do to your house. Sub termite is everywhere and they can travel within a football stadium length. They swam every single year.

I've also had that system. Seemed to work, but the company kinda went downhill. Every year, they raised the annual payment. Would show up once a year unannounced, never making an appointment. They also only check some not all of the baits. Never in 8 years changing any cartridges and I was recently told they last 5 years. So, I decided to do some research. Here's what I found. A good yt channel is Guy's pest solution. He's retired after 30 years of being certified in multiple states. He has many diy suggestions. Check out his video on BioAdvanced termite killer granules. But be sure to get the right ones that contain the right active ingredients. As there are two different ones. It'll be in the video. Good luck!

@killerjma1
@killerjma1 2 года назад
Here's my input doing pest control for the time I have. The liquid is more effective and lasts 7-10 years depending on the elements. Now yes you may find that the excessive dumping of liquid around the home is discouraging and doesn't look good. But considering it's pros that its like a thick wall of pesticide that will effectively kill all termites around your home and most other insects in the ground as well its not as bad. The sentricon stations are some of the worst stations to place around your home. If you ever have the opportunity to watch someone come out and inspect these stations you are going to see them struggle to remove them from the ground. The "bait" inside the stations are a wooden stick coated in termiticide that will help kill a colony of termites after the termites find said stations. It can take up to 90 days for a colony to find these stations to even begin the process. They're difficult to take the top off cause the tool supplied with the station is not suitable for the amount of force needed. The stations will become overgrown easily and overtaken by the earth so your first year you may see the 30 or so stations around your home but after 2-3 years you may only find 10 at best unless you are constantly digging them up. They are green so they naturally blend into the ground and can be easily skipped. They are roughly every 5-10 feet and the lawn mower if mowing low enough can clip them. The wood will rot and mold and become effectively useless besides bringing termites to your own with roughly no treatment to prevent it. Not saying who I work for but most leading pest control companies has people who don't do the job efficiently or don't want to do it what so ever. So if you don't watch the treatment being done you might as well just not have a termite treatment being maintained when you're not watching.
@mrfaust8602
@mrfaust8602 2 года назад
the old stations sucked, the new ones are way better, they are literllay nearly 90% cellouse impregnated with an IGR, studies have shown they can wipe out entire colonies even formosan colonies in as little as 2 years, with termidor you can have a colony living next to your house for years in a tree stump, just praying there isnt a root going up under your house providing their path in. at least a bait station by the stump gives you a shot at taking them out, and at least here in FL, termidor cant be used within 50 of standing water, so thats a ton of homes or 50 feet of an ingroud well, there goes a bunch more homes and can only be used at the base of structures so again, colony in the stump just 2 feet from your house, alive and well the whole time, throwing off swarmers.

What are the chances that little mud tunnel would hit that little 1/32-inch gap? What are the chances you recon? They’ll always find it I bet you’ll say. The answer is yes. They will. because they forage through the soil. They explore everywhere and when they find a food source they release a chemical to let everyone know this trail leads to food. That’s how bait stations work. They are full of a very easily digestible cellulose bait. Termites love it. They forage around and they’ll find the bait way before they find that 1/32-inch gap. Then it’s all over.
