So after almost a year of not really driving the Cupra, it's time to finally address the big thing that's been holding the build back. The old rollcage has to come out due to shoddy welding and a new (proper one) is going in. Also we're starting the journey of turning it into more of a track car, going for more power with stage 2 software and some more weight reduction. Stoked to be working on this again.

Where i live we have these shops you can pay to use their equipment and there is welder there so the owner of the shop just showed me quick how to use it and told me basics of how you know if youre welding wrong and how to adjust settings and let me tell you the welds i see here are worse than what i managed to produce on my first time on holding welder let alone someone who seemingly has done so many roll cages before

@Chris Are you concussed? I said "I found John's account" because Luke stated "I'd like to see you break it" Almost looking like Luke was trying to defend the cage's integrity, which is fucked. It was John who welded in this awful cage. Which is why I said it looks like I've found John's account. Does that make sense now? If it doesn't you seriously need to have words with yourself

Ahaha put it this way. That cage was going nowhere. I'm not claiming to be a master welder but my job does involve a fair bit from like 2 mm players to 20mm plate. A weld without gas or little gas will bubble up like a few of John's but is still fucking strong. That cage is better than no cage.

I agree absolute disgusting! worst fabbing and welding I’ve seen for a roll cage probably ever. Any skilled welder could weld those gaps no problem. This work makes me cringe. ps it’s not mig it’s flux core.

Change the 'diverter valve' for the OEM version. It's honestly the best setup for these engines, and recommended by most tuners, especially R-Tech.

You may also need a 4bar fuel pressures reg too.but you will defo start to kill clutches a lot quicker with the stage 2.

Most of those welds look like he didn't use shielding gas. I'm kinda stunned you can even do such a bad job at MIG welding something together. Glad you are getting a new cage mate!

Keep in mind the stock rods will start to fail if you push past 300lb/ft. Stay under that if you don't want your engine to go kablamo 😂 Stoked for more content, on either of the cars, your videos are great no matter what, keep it up 👌

The welds on the hard to reach places on top of the cage is the first place a scrutineer would check! More common than you would think to see cages missing welds where you can't see as it avoids taking to roof skin off to do it properly! p.s for the weight you would save cutting the door bars out I'd be tempted to leave them just for the extra protection during a side impact.
