I explain why I'm not currently an airline pilot and how I love being a corporate pilot. We fly from Columbus to Louisville, then down to Tampa and back to Columbus. The weather was great and it was an excellent day in the life of this pilot.
Corporate flying is just so much fun.

I fly for airline. F/O says "look at that tiny corporate jet over there. I'm glad I am not flying that thing." I replied, "those guys are probably eating fine catering, have a rental car waiting at the FBO, and stay in great hotels while we have peanuts, crappy coffee, continental breakfast, and a hotel shuttle van that smells like a locker room." The right corporate gig can be wonderful!!

Not always bad being with an airline, I work for an airline (not a pilot, mech) and recently in Tel Aviv (I was on vacation so I was paying) the crews hotel was right across the street from where I stayed, they stayed in $340 a night rooms. One of the advantages of airline Vs small corp. jet pilot, Don't think you will be making many trips to Israel. Also I fly free just about anytime and anywhere in the world. Even if I want to go where my airline doesn't fly I get 90% off on most other airlines, domestic and international. You are limited (I think) to where your trips take you. They each have their good and bad but in general it's a great industry to be a part of.

Gamebreaker08 , In the end, it isn't the size of the plane that matters. It is how well you operate it. Planes all fly in the same air. Besides, compared to the sky, even the A-380 is small. Do what makes you happy. I still believe the J-3 cub is about the most enjoyable plane on the planet.

@macgriffyn

It depends on the flying and the airline...you can typically find one that suits you. I flew night freight for two years and liked it well enough, passengers for nine years and didn't care for it. Flying heavy freight for about two years now and I'm a huge fan. It's all about finding what you like, and doing it.
@ionewingedangel1712
@ionewingedangel1712 7 лет назад
macgriffyn I think the word airline for me I when I said you can't vlog is more of 121 passengers ops. Maybe you could but I think it would be a difficult task. You're right though, find what you like.

@captmoonbeam

I can't think of any aviation vloggers who work for a 121 carrier. It would be extremely difficult, due to the part 121 regs. In addition, all the major airlines are very protective and controlling when it comes to their image. You can see evidence of this in how pilots for airlines post flying videos. 99% have no identifying ATC audio or their faces in the video. They also tend to post a few videos and suddenly stop. Now that I'm thinking about it, I can only think of a handful of aviation vloggers who are vlogging as professional pilots at work. One of which is the creator of this video. I have to confess, you did knock this one out of the ball park.

From an airline guy, first I have to say, your landings are SWEET! Beautiful, beautiful job. I've been flying with one of the big 3 for 35 years, and wondered from time to time what your lifestyle and job satisfaction is. I've often thought that if you work for a great family/boss it could be one of the best jobs out there. Flying amazing equipment and feeling like you're part of a close knit team. That said, I'm guessing that set up is kind of rare. On our side, there are some big pluses; Job security once you've got some seniority, control of your schedule, vacation, sick leave, generous 401K contributions, flying all over the world with a few longer layovers here and there, to enjoy it. The all nighters suck (pretty common on the widebodies) as does the commute (my fault...lol) You're pretty much "just a number" when it comes to your job. Co workers are usually enjoyable, but not a lot of long term friendships, as everyone is usually on different life paths and tend to do their own thing, especially on domestic layovers. As someone mentioned, seniority is king. If you do tire of your cool ride, try to make the jump at the beginning of a hiring cycle. (our list will lose about 1/2 of the pilots in the next 10 years due to forced retirements. Lots of movement once were past the Covid craziness). Thanks for the video! Loved it.

Thanks for the positive comment Rick! I think someone said “the grass isn’t greener, it’s just different”. A part of me would love to have that airline experience and the perks you enjoy and all that comes with the airline environment. Fortunately I’m at one those nice family owned been around 100 years operations that it’s hard to justify working holidays with young kids and commuting. Maybe someday when the kids are older I’ll get that chance.

It is fine playing around with toys whilst you are young, but when you get a little older, and it is too late to join an airline, or at least have a command in an airline. You will wish that the big juicy 'Heavy' over there, going to Cape Town for a 4 Day layover was yours. All paperwork/flight plans, coach to the aircraft, catering (not your problem), fuel all arranged, coach to nice hotel, and the rest. Then I see a corporate pilot looking for passengers and problems as your vlog shows. Your choice, but the best thing I did was join a major airline.

Fantastic video! I spent over two decades in the airline industry and would consider it to have been a great experience overall. Unfortunately, today's environment is a much different story. There are far too many reasons to list but you can just go to most any pilot forum and figure those out. My opinion: stay where you're at as long as you're happy and have job security.

Having recently made the jump from corporate to airline, i concur, corporate was more fun and the lifestyle was way better. That being said, airline is a more steady job, the pay is better and there are less cowboys around. I miss corporate flying but i don't think i will go back to it.

Now, after paying my 'dues' I know where, when and who I am flying with. Life is always good when satisfied and balanced. Enjoy the ride-

It also helps that you have a friendly, positive attitude to go with it. I know people who can have the best situations in life and screw them up because they're jerks, and insist on bringing themselves and everyone else around them down. I also know people who pump out porta-potties for a living, and love it because they can listen to their favorite CD's in the truck. It's all what you make of it.

Compliments on your entertaining videos - nice camera work and editing! Like you, I chose corporate over the airlines, yet when people find out you're a pilot they always ask "what airline do you fly for"? Most people have the impression that you're not a commercial pilot unless you fly for the airlines, which leads to the whole explanation about holding an Airline Transport Pilot certificate and how all being a Commercial Pilot does is allow you to charge for your services. That's usually followed by "oh, so you mean like a private jet" which leads to you being introduced as a 'Private Pilot'. Good grief!!! Many pros and cons for each career path, but let's talk about corporate - at least my world view. I fly a Challenger 350 part 91 exclusively. Awesome airplane (as you know) and great owner. In my world, I'm on call 24 - 7 except for 2 weeks vacation per year. No schedule. 3 -5 days advance notice tops. Lot's of last minute changes, multiple leg days, duty times up to 18 hours, and rarely on the ground long enough anywhere we go to get out and explore - including international destinations - and occasionally just barely enough time to grab a bite to eat! Sometimes frenetic. Always challenging. But for me that's part of the appeal of corporate, and why corporate pilots are typically a bit quicker on their feet and more adaptable to rapidly changing missions than their airline peers. Another thing the average person doesn't realize is that corporate pilots do all the flight planning, fuel uplift planning and price negotiation, weather analysis, weight & balance, baggage loading, and many other tasks that airline pilots have a huge staff of people to do for them. There's also arranging passenger catering, ground transportation, housekeeping, paperwork, database downloads, maintenance tracking, etc., etc., etc.. Fortunately we have a full-time flight attendant to shoulder much of the passenger service burden! Oh yeah, and there's also the actual flying part!!! But perhaps the greatest sacrifice is being away from home and always having to respond "I don't know" whenever my wife asks me if I'm going to be home to attend some social or family-related event. Do I love my job? Yes. Is it easy? No. But not about to give up my seat in the cockpit for one behind a desk!

Your doing exactly what I wished to do, I even took college courses for it and my dad went thru the roof, when told him I'd be flying for a transit airline so much so i was grounded, This was back in the 1970's, and the war was over, all the military pilots had thousands of hour of jet time, no way I could compete. So i ended up driving truck, I loved it but well its not flying. I think your a very lucky guy.

Try any airline in the persian gulf, you start at 100K as FO and $300 as a captain, everything paid for, you will have a chauffeur take you to and from work, full benefits, paid villa for residency and you'll travel the world...Look up Qatar, Etihad airlines etc...persian gulf, different pilot life. besides, as a corporate you're constantly on call, no set schedule no set time off, good for a single guy but I see the ring on your finger so I can imagine how hard it is to have a normal life, unlike airlines, you're 2 weeks on 2 weeks of or something like that, there is a sense of routine.other options that I would love would be cargo with majors like UPS or FedEx, they take care of their pilot and you still have that sense of routine.

start your own airline that gives their pilots options ! you can do it. just plan on it and it will happen. There are thousands of pilots out there waiting for just such an opportunity and the happier the pilots and employ the greater the flying experience for it's passengers ! Plans can change but when you are planning things the plans only get better and better and closer and closer. you know that.

Normally wouldn't say anything, but I felt I needed to correct a few things: 1) I've flown ALL over the world for free with very little trouble. 2) 16+ days off a month @ $170k/ year. Plenty of time to golf on my own dime. When on the road, I work. When I'm off, I'm off; not wondering if there will be a pop up. Done both. Prefer airlines by a mile. Seriously Not sure I'd let Delta view this video. Might kill your chances.

I'm finishing up my PPL right now and I'm thinking of where I can work (I'll get my CFI, but I'd rather stick to corporate if possible). So, the question of the day would be.... What's the best way to end up as a corporate pilot? I know it's a hard question to answer, but I'm not sure where to start. Keep the videos coming!

I almost have my commercial cert and about 220 hours... obviously I have to get another 800 before I get my ATP but I really want to fly corporate and was wondering how I could get into the industry

Not sure if it is my computer or just me??? I have normal setting on volume then the music comes along and blast my eardrums, so I turn it down. Then you start talking again when the music goes away and I can barely hear again and have to turn the volume back up. Is it just me that it's happening to? Is there a reason the music is overpowering? Love your videos though dude. I will sit here and kill my eardrums watching you. Great channel

good video. I am not a pilot but was just wondering why you make more than two or three turns while in the air? do you make the extra turns just for fun?

What kind of benefits come along with being an airline pilot that you don't get as a commercial pilot? Is it the money in the long run?

Hey I'm a noob, I have my Private license but haven't flown in years and years. Is that a really shallow approach at 7 minute mark?
