Nicely done! Love that tune. It’s just magic. I only recently found out Paul McCartney played the guitar parts. Legend

@@NickGranville Cheers Nick. It was amazing to watch Sir Paul at Glastonbury last year, performing at the age of 80 to a massive crowd, and playing electric & acoustic guitar, bass, piano, mandolin... and playing a great gig. At 80 years old! Totally inspiring!

Your modifications worked a treat for my ears. Sounds fabulous. Let's face it, signature guitars are modified guitars. It's just the company does the mods for them.

Thanks. Yeah, I hadn't thought of signature guitar like that, they are just modded guitars, right. Cheers Nick

I love how that roasted Maple has a darker look than mine.
@NickGranville
@NickGranville 25 дней назад
@@-SILON thanks! Yes, it’s very dark. More so than most other AZ’s I’ve ever seen
@-SILON
@-SILON 25 дней назад
@NickGranville I love my 2204 BK, but honestly, I was a little disappointed that it wasn't as dark as some of the others I've seen. I guess it just depends on those years of manufacture.Another thing is that the neck feels a little dry? ( still smooth), but that can be fixed. Otherwise, it's the nicest guitar I have ever owned.
@NickGranville
@NickGranville 25 дней назад
Yeah roasted maple will feel drier, that’s just the nature of it. Mine has darkened with age so yours might too. I’ve noticed the roasting process seems to be inconsistent in terms of colour so must just be how it is.

Two of favorites noiseless single coil are the dimarzio areas and the new fender ULTRA NOISELESS VINTAGE STRATOCASTER PICKUPS
@NickGranville
@NickGranville 9 месяцев назад
The dimarzio area’s are my favourite noiseless pickups. They feel the most like real strat and tele pickups but without the noise. So good

This is the best clean tone I've heard from the Ibanez AZ so I guess this modification is a big improvement ( or maybe I just really hate the stock pickups haha ).
@NickGranville
@NickGranville Год назад
Thanks! The stock pickups are actually quite good. I didn’t change the neck of mid for tonal reasons - I changed them to get hum cancelling, which for me, when I use this guitar, Is essential. The bridge pickup I changed for something more vintage rather than a more modern sound. Maybe the issues with others tones you’ve heard is due their settings on the amp and the way they’re producing tone from the instrument. Thanks for the comment and for watching

I like the DiMarzio noiseless stuff as well. I modded my Fender Modern Player Telecaster (HSS) to have an Area T in the neck, Area 67 in the middle, and a Bluesbucker (hum sized P90) in the bridge. What a great, versatile, workhorse of a guitar now for about $800 total. I think my PRS Studio is going to stay stock though 🙂

Nice. The dimarzio area T neck was the first of these I bought for my tele and loved it so much that’s what made decide to get these for this guitar

Nice vid. I wish I had your free will. I just love to keep everything original these days. Years ago I was more experimental. Made changes, and more changes and never felt satisfied. Now other than a possible new nut or something I get a guitar with a sound Im looking for and leave it be. But there is a lot to what you are saying here. Peace!
@NickGranville
@NickGranville Год назад
That’s awesome though. If your happy with it then leave well enough alone. Nothing worse than changing things for the sake of it - I know I’ve done that before. Now days I think it all through and make carefully considered choices

I totally get it Nick. Almost all my guitars are modded too. As you say, they are tools. And I will second Glyn Evans pickups. I have three gats with his pups in there - the combination of Cruel Mistress and Tui in my Jansen Beatmaster is just fantastic. That Ibanez sounds amazing too. Which amp are you running there - sounds great!

While I'm a traditional single-coil guy myself, I do love the DiMarzio area stuff. I tend to prefer the noiseless pups for instruments I know I will be using for high-gain stuff.

Me too. I gave dimarzio areas in my AZ and really like them, can’t stand single coil noise

@@NickGranville And they tend to hold together pretty well under gain
@NickGranville
@NickGranville 9 месяцев назад
Yes! That’s often something people don’t think about. They think of single coil pickups are being sweet pickups for clean but the areas are just as good for drive too, and no hum. They don’t 100% sound like classic single coil pickups but are close enough and the no hum thing is worth it.

Are you still using the Area 61 in the neck position? In your latest video about the AZ 2204, the neck pickup sounds brighter. It gave me the feeling you changed it.
@NickGranville
@NickGranville 6 месяцев назад
Thanks, it’s the same pickup - haven’t changed it since installing the area. If it’s brighter that’s probably the amp model or eq etc. If I remember right it’s a 61 in the neck and a 67 in the middle

I lowkey wish i ended up getting an ibanez az2204n rather than a fender stratocaster american ultra, everything is amazing about the american ultra im just not NOT a fan of the modern D shape profile so uncomfortable i rather perfer the ibanez az2204n neck profile.
@NickGranville
@NickGranville 9 месяцев назад
Yeah, the neck on the AZ is my favourite thing about it. So nice with the raw wood feel and it’s quite substantial - in a good way. It’s a tonal beast. Cheers
