Check your car’s user manual! Only do this if it is allowed by your car’s manufacturer. For most Volvos, the manual specifically said the latch is not designed to be used in the center. Only use seat belt if you want to place car seat in the center.
I agree- you aren’t supposed to use latch in the centre in most cars, only on the side. You can install a car seat in the center most of the time but you need to use the seatbelt to install it. A seatbelt install is just as safe as latch as long as done properly. In this case a seatbelt install will be safer.
Glad I'm not alone on this! I do the same for my little daughter, placing the baby seat in the centre so I can still haul two other occupants. Plus, I believe that the fixed isofix is too rigid; I'm afraid that any shock absorbed by the car is directly passed to the baby seats because the isofix connections are basically tethered to the car's body. Not something I want my 4yo to endure. So the seat-belt-type isofix is still the best, while it secures hard and maintains comfort.
Edit: Some car models say this is safe to do. The manual I looked at for the car seat said no. Unclear? You are not suppose to use the LATCH or Isofix straps like that. At least that is what the car seat manual I looked at said. In this case, you would just install by locking the seat belt. Check your manual?
Hi from America! I agree... I was in a T bone accident and my toddler was badly injured from being on the end side by the door. She was in a car seat but the impact from being t boned is what caused the injury
I'm currently in a very bad disagreement with my wife because I keep insisting that our 5 month old should be in the very middle of the car, and she keeps insisting that, "he's fine". As to why, she says she just doesn't want to reach in so far. So for a huge amount of laziness and a tiny, tiny amount of inconvenience is what she's trading a for huge amount of safety for our son.
And this latch system is ok to be used in the middle seat that doesn’t have the latches available in the middle? Like in the video he is having to overlap the seatbelt with the one strap that is not visible from the angle. Is that dangerous?
would check your car seat manual. ours is constructed similarly but says that the two anchor points are too far apart for those straps to be secure. We use both those straps and the middle lap belt when placong the seat in the middle. plus the top anchor
How much are they normally?. cause to be frank, i have never seen a child seat until you showed it in your videos. I ask parents with kids why they don't use it, they said its too much "luxury" for a child and a normal seatbelt more than enough....
Peter Ambrose I've used child seats for a few years now in the rear seats. And now using booster. So far no tears. It does cause an indent to the leather, if the cushion is soft, but it goes away after a few days if you remove the child seats.
Nice to know!. Cause back then (2000s) these things were not a big factor. But now reviewers like Carwow, auto express and Aurizn includes isofix and child carseats in every of their videos. Glad they are emphasizing it.
Hi Peter, there is some sort of "protector" that you can buy to put on your leather seat then only put the child seat on it. Try search online. You will not get tear but a dent/mark in the cushion is for sure after long use. However, how much is the cost of you car leather seat and cushion? How much is the life of your beloved child? We gotta weigh it correctly brother. And also tell your friend, a child seat is NOT a luxury, it is a safety equipment. And it is compulsory in many of the developed countries...You gotta change their mindset bro...cheers
If it’s the safest option why doesn’t Volvo have isofix point in the middle? Q7 has one point on every seat on middle and third row. Just curious. Ur comments?
Yes it's Nextfit Zip. BTW in my CX5 manual, only say that I can use ISOFIX only on both side of passenger seat. They didnt recommend to use it on the middle seat.
