I have lived in Australia now for 17 years. I am a dual citizen of the US and Australia. I wouldn’t move back to the US if you paid me. Yes, as with all countries we have our own issues. However, the quality of life is definitely better here. It is not cheap to live in Australia. That can be a deterrent for many. The pay is decent, but cost of living is high. Housing shortages are an issue, costs are continually rising. So for me that is a negative, but not one that stops me from loving everything else. Australia is extremely multicultural. There is always something to do. The weather as I am in Queensland is pretty amazing. Though I will say winters are getting colder. People take the time here to visit parks, go for walks, hit the beach. Cities here have lots of green spaces. Parks are numerous. We have about 10 parks/ conservation areas within 20 minutes of us with hiking trails, bbq areas and more we go walking at with the dogs. We could if we put a radius of an hour probably hit a different park or beach everyday for over a month. While everyone works, time off here is active. Amazing food, though I don’t eat much typically Aussie food. Wildlife at your door. I love waking up and seeing the tropical birds. Though you do have to respect wildlife here as we have a lot that can and will kill you😂🤣

I’m there with you! Now I live in the U.S. now and am from here, but I am moving to Australia this November, first on a WHV and then talking it from there. I’m doing more of a move and selling all my things to start my traveling and backpacking life rather than doing a visa then coming back to the states, no I plan to be away for as long as I can. Now of course I’ll be back to visit family and what-not, but as far as moving back after I leave, will automatically be my last resort and I’m excited! Not only that but just simply that there’s just so much world to see!🌏

Yea it is true that the Australian cost of living high at the moment but that is a monetary sacrifice for the standard of living, for the most part Australians have more than they need and do generally indulge in what other countries consider luxuries. So to curb the effects of high inflation the Australian government has implemented strategies to reduce consumer spending, hence why they need to spend wisely and consider wants over needs. It's frustrating tho 😏

He said that because of the lack of holiday time and lower wages in the US if they lived there she'd never be able to visit her family but if they lived here, he could visit his family. I once travelled in a taxi that was driven by an American from Florida and I asked him why he was here. Was he married to an Aussie? No, his wife was American and they moved here purely to bring their kids up in a safer enviroment. I am a US citizen, and am thinking really hard to move to Australia, starting a new life again, even if I work in a grocery store. I’ve been deployed with the Australian all over the Middle East, and I love them. I sincerely do. From the way they live, the way they communicate, the way they treat each other and also I love the way they Cuss each other. Bottom line very well educated individuals also well traveled, and they are sincerely and genuinely nice, the stigma of being racist. It’s just a joke, but if you are hard-working individual, no matter where you are or where you come from what kind of skin color you have that will show your true work ethic. I believe what you’ll bring to the table it’s the outcome of your attitude/work/gratitude. Hopefully by the end of this year next year, I’ll do the move and be in Brisbane. You don't have to convince me, I spent a month in Utah, New Mexico, Alabama, Georgia and Colorado, as well as a day and a half in San Fran and a weekend in NYC. NYC was the highlight as it was nothing like the rest of the USA, it was cosmopolitan. San Fran is like Sydney on acid. Driving around Utah, New Mexico and Bama visiting coal mines (work trip) was like being in a B Grade horror movie, everyone talks in clichés and everyone hated Obama. My two American work colleagues were very racist towards all other nationalities. Ignorance was the default character trait. Even back in 2010 the country was so divided under political lines, and their was so much poverty in the richest nation on earth, especially in New Mexico. I felt like kissing the tarmac when I arrived back in Sydney and smelt the air and heard the birds singing. Australia, don't become like America and stay out of their wars, please.....

Politically, we're getting even more divided, the right despises Biden even though hes a centrist...which shows how far right they've gone and Trump only makes it worse.... gun violence enough said there.... Racial tension is like a Rollercoaster. I'm in the military and have been told to my face that I'm not welcome in certain places because I'm black, but thanks for my service...make that make sense. My wife being half Korean half Italian has always felt like she doesn't fit in either. The difference between dodgy Sydney suburbs and some dodgy US suburbs is the difference to being probably yelled at by some yobbos, and being shot just for being there. My MIL used to live in the Blacktown area, and I used to live near Airds, which is near Campbelltown. Though there were dodgy types, as long I left the dodgy folks alone, they left me alone. Simple as that. The worse that may happen in a dodgy Sydney suburb is someone may take stuff from your yard, break into your car, or even steal shoes...a neighbour had that happen, and as sucky as those events are, stuff can be replaced.
@utha2665
@utha2665 Год назад
Yes and without guns you just don't get that kind of confrontation either. Many Americans feel they need to protect their property with deadly force, for something that is easily replaced. But, it's a different mindset, trying to convince many that you don't need to live in fear just doesn't compute.
@garrysurplice7656

I lived in Campbelltown for 30 years. Moved to Wollongong now, but yeah. You can find problems around the place, but only because of socioeconomic issues. Most of the normal people are salt of the earth. But lack of money always creates these issues.
@7thsealord888
@7thsealord888 Год назад
Good points. I would add that basically every city in the world has areas that people consider "dodgy". It's a matter of perspective and degree - what passes for dodgy in Australia is completely different to, say, China, or France, or Brazil, or indeed the USA.
@majorlaff8682
@majorlaff8682 Год назад
@@utha2665 Some property isn't easily replaced, especially when it's taken years of hard work to earn the money to buy it. The time spent working can never be replaced. Americans see their property as an extension of themselves and no one should violate that. If they do, they risk their lives.

The culture of loving and needing so many guns is what is what makes the US so culturally different. Stories such as kids being taught active shooter drills, people being on edge and going into duck and cover mode when they hear a car backfire or it being general knowledge that you should run in a zig zag when evading gun fire. These are things that citizens from Europe or Australia hear from Americans and we can't believe it. Good on you for moving here and welcome.
@VektrumSimulacrum
@VektrumSimulacrum Год назад
The ugly truth is there are some very deep-seeded issues that contribute a lot to the violence and unrest we have here in the States. My issue is that the gun debate is hyper-focused on the object and has engaged less and less with the underlying problems that planted the seeds for the violence in the first place. I've taken a big step back from the constant back and forth between the two sides of the issue and focus my attention at policy that actually addresses the underlying issues. If people want to vote to ban or more heavily restrict firearms...fine. But if we want to see real progress in the U.S. we need to fix the average American's overall mentality of "as long as I get mine, F--- the rest of you" and all the other things that have come hand-in-hand with that lack of empathy.

Private gun ownership in the USA is an industry worth billions of dollars. Naturally, the businesses making that money want to keep doing so, so they spend up big on advertising, political contributions, media exposure, and so on. Farm towns, old gold rush towns, wine country, are places where firearms are a very different thing.(in general) This goes handed in hand with the fact that in many of these type of places they also have a different way of doing everyday life. I've noticed a lot of people from the US and UK remark on that. How's there's still lots of greenery and parks and oasis's and fresh air. Most of our capital cities being around the coastline helps too. I think Australians in general are just very connected to nature and the outdoors. It a big part of our lives growing up. We walk and cycle a lot here too, rather than just jumping in the car for every little trip. We like being outside in the fresh air. With regards to rural /remote areas and medical care, the Royal Flying Doctor Service covers that. They just turned 95 years old! The largest most comprehensive aeromedical service in the world. They provide everything from emergency retrievals and patient transfers (for treatments) to primary care through mobile GP clinics, to mental health consultations to dental care through mobile dental clinics etc. All FREE to patients. They receive government funding which has just been increased a lot, plus donations and bequests. Each year they fly the distance to the moon and back around 35 times! Similar institutions in other countries these may be referred to as Polytechnic, Technical College or Trade School (maybe Community College or a 2-year Associate's Degree College ?). They usually offer Certificate and Diploma courses as well as 'some' Bachelor Degree courses. Note that many standard Bachelor Degrees can be completed in 3 years (whereas in USA they seem to take 4). However the time of holiday/vacation periods may be less. Remember that our Christmas, New Years, and Summer Holidays periods all falls at the one same time (because like, hey it's Summer in the Southern Hemisphere then). As an Indonesian who have lived for a decade or so in Melbourne, I can vouch for the quality of Aus healthcare. My late sister (an Aus PR btw)had her breast cancer treated there on 2009-2012 and I can't be more impressed with it. She was subjected to battery of treatments such as: radiotherapy, chemotherapy and of course surgical removal of the cancer cell. This cost her nothing other than she needs to pay for take-home medication. We just felt genuinely silly afterward that we keep asking how much this or that cost 😝. We should have known better that she is fully covered under Medicare. Look, my Mom was even assigned a translator (for free of course) just so she could converse with her oncologist. At one point in time, we did consider moving her to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX to afford her better care. Let's just say we were all too glad that we didn't go ahead. At best, such decision would have been seriously wallet-busting while not delivering better outcome anyway. We were asked to put US$ 25.000 deposit just to get admitted there (per late 2010)! The bad side of it (for potential medical tourists like me that is) is that it's not that welcoming to foreign medical tourists. Aus hospitals could potentially make big bucks if they were more welcoming to Indonesian medical tourists like their Singaporean counterparts. Just my 2 cents here :). Brazen car break-in incidents like this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C888MuluVY4.html also gives me a rather unfavorable impression of the US. It's not everyday you get to see developing countries like Indonesia issuing a travel warning to supposedly wealthy country, like the US..lmao

As for gun violence, more people are injured and killed per day in the USA than Australia has per year. If a house gets shot in Australia, it makes the news. Population wise, Los Angeles has more people than Australia. The public health system is not perfect, but it is actually better than the American private health system. the Australian mentally is how can I help, but the American mentally is what is in it for me. It is just a generalisation, but for the majority, it is correct. On average, Australians earn 6 times what the average American does, excluding the extreme rich. Yes Australia is a better place to live than the USA but with some work Americans can have the same quality of life as Australians but you must fight hard for it, to get public health care and keep it has been a constant fight against people who want to take it away. Unfortunately, you must continually fight for your rights and you can never stop. I can't imagine living anywhere else and I don't feel the need to visit any other country, Australia has every environment except for polar and it will take a lifetime to see everything. To all Americans come visit or stay for life, you will not regret it.

Watching your vids the last little while I can see you kind of relaxing and aclimatising to our Aussie ways of speaking. Pretty sure your nearest and dearest by now see you "going native". It's ok. We are a nation of immigrants. And TBH I have known a few Americans and even Canadians in my time. Noone ever wants to move "home". Home is where the heart is.But we steal them here. My Father in law moved from the UK at 17 for a few years to make his fortune. He's still here. My Grandparents went on a cruise back to the UK back in the 70s. Many of there shipmates were "going home" because Australia was not for them. A large percentage were on the return voyage, realising "home" was now Australia. This place gets in your veins. And we love it.

As much as there are certain social issues and religion and politics is bit extreme I would love the chance to be able to live there. @stussysinglet The US is an exciting place to for sure. The wonderful nature, cultural wonder and attractions are amazing but you should remember that all the places you have mentioned to would like to live are some of the most expensive places in the US and the pay is not terrific. Their minimum wage starts around $7.50 per hour but if you work in hospitality it starts around $2.50 and you live on any tips you make. These facts I know as my husband and I have travelled there 5 times and we have very good friends there. So maybe have a good think before making any decisions.

The issue of affordable healthcare is a massive one. It continually astounds me that so many Americans are so resistant to an Australian-style system of affordable health care for all. No, the Australian system is not perfect - but it is far preferable to the American system which sees less well-off people often not able to afford the care they need, and health issues meaning families have to make major lifestyle changes in order to afford necessary care. I can only assume that many Americans are just a bit scared about what the implications of a major change to the system might be - but people who have detailed experience of affordable public health care in Australia or other countries with similar systems would almost always pick those systems over the US any day. And on the flipside - the Australian system is so important to people that it is political poison for any party to try to erode it.

You can fly back and forth easily between your hometown in just 6-7 hours, rather than 15-20. Not to mention, you will likely get to live a longer live there. US life expectancy stands at a poor (for a developed country) 76 years vs Aus’ 83 years. Flying that far just to go places where safety isn’t even guaranteed. Give me a break 😂.
