Working on Trade/IT products, originally from Brazil and living in FLL for the past 4 yrs (having lived in São Paulo, Sacramento, Ohio, Texas) and I was looking for new locations (NC, KY, TX, GA, etc). My takeaway here is "stay put"

I grew up in Newport Beach and Encinitas. I moved to Scottsdale during the pandemic and love it. However, my long term goal is to move to Naples, Fl in a few months to retire as I miss the beach. You will not miss your cold Pacific ocean once you go into the gulf, Jupiter/ Palm Beach or the keys. The shopping in Naples and Bonita Springs is better than any area in California. ZERO state taxes in retirement. Low Collier County Florida taxes. Plus, there are no bums hanging out in the streets of Naples like Balboa Park. I have nothing against California as I like the people, but you have the worst leaders running that company and are getting invaded by illegals. BTW, WDW and Universal in Florida blow away their counterparts in California!!

The only thing I will caveat to that statement is people have to understand there are literally 3 succinct states/cultures in Florida: Pan handle "Southern", Middle Florida "Moderate", and southern FL "cuban/latino with a anything goes mentality". You have to quantify which part.

Lakeland is central 45 minutes to 1 hour from Tampa or Orlando. I hear a lot of good things about Sarasota. I guess it just depends on the person though, since I have 2 little boys, this spot is nice to raise a family. Easy to get around. Real Estate is booming out here. You'd do very well.

South Florida isn't for me. Not the same anymore. Except the Fl keys for fishing trips. Central to North Florida is def my style. South Florida (Miami, Boca) is just NY South imo.

AGree. I am stunned how much Miami [and other FL cities] have transformed over the last 17 years! Who would have thought that Miami would be the city with the 3rd highest number of skyscrapers. The difference is they do it keeping the city super clean. Not one piece of trash on the streets. No downtown areas overrun by drug-addicts, slums and tent-cities, with people defecating on the side-walks like in parts of San Francisco and LA, and now in POrtland Oregon and parts of Seattle too. Friends and family who visit us always gush: 'How in the heck does FL keep itself so spotlessly clean and its roads and bridges in such pristine condition?' Then they go back to their liberal states and continue voting democratic lol and continue lamenting their high taxes and pathetic crumbling infrastructure and roads. Always longing to visit Florida again to enjoy super-clean places everywhere with not one dilapidated building or run-down community in sight. Go figure!

I’ve seen people shoot up/ smoke meth on the streets and it’s just getting worse. I see tents more now as well. It’s not as bad as other areas obviously but it’s still there.

Orlando was rated the fourth cleanest city in the US [though these ratings/listing keep changing depending on which publication puts out these lists]. That said, much like Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Tampa, St Pete etc. Orlando for its size and sheer number of annual visitors coming in from around to globe, manages to keep itself very clean.

I would have stayed. Lived and grew up in St. Petersburg from 1975-1980. Best part of my life. Had mango trees in my backyard, night blooming jasmine. Grand parents had lemon and orange trees. Always lived in a house. Why move away? Father had a gig in CT that fell through. 3 yrs from this writing I'll be back for good.
