I don't understand why you don't say that LOVE, is the first and primary reason why you went to the Philippines??? That is the "major" reason why Expats go there. Living in the western world, you realize soon that once you hit 45+ , your chances of finding a young, slim woman are slim to none. Most are divorced, overweight, with 1-2 kids, and also come with the "new feminist attitudes" that a lot of guys are just fed up with. LOVE- and friendly people are really lacking here in North America. I think you'll see huge amounts of baby boomers who are now about 45-60 yrs old, going there to find love and a new purpose in life. My situation is much like the sentiment you expressed so well in your video here Ned. You can't be happy just with nice houses and fancy cars--after you've had them, their no big deal anymore, and you want some real meaning and purpose in your life--be it a nice woman, or starting a family, which is available there in the Phils-- and not in North America. It's really a chance at a second life in a way--and guys are throwing all the money, career aside, and going there looking for real meaning in life. I'll say a very good, down to earth video Ned, and you covered a lot of very good informative information on the Phils here. I enjoyed it very much, but I do think--"it's the availability of women that is the # 1 driving force" for all the Expats going there, and you should be very upfront on this issue, as it's the reason why your there, and so many others like you as well. North America is a good place to make money-- but it can't buy you happiness. Look forward to more good videos from you--saw yours off Henry's site. regards-Grant ( in Canada) I'll likely be going there myself!!!!

Grant Bedard Actually, I am not here for the women - I just needed something new and different from what I had. An adventure, if you will. And you are right - a lot of guys are here for that, but again, that wasn't my personal reason. It's just icing on the rather yummy cake that is the Philippines.
@grantbedard9859
@grantbedard9859 10 лет назад
Philippine Dreams - I guess everyone's reasons are different, some for warm weather, others for low cost to live etc. Good luck with your adventure Ned--your very similar to Henry out in the Phils. Be interesting to meet you guys there.

I agree with you 100% Problem with him saying anything else other than women is that I don't see any other reason as to why white women don't move to the country for the climate or cheap costs etc. Instead there's just an influx of old white men moving into the country
@PhilippineDreams
@PhilippineDreams 9 лет назад
John Primrose I see lots of "white women" every day here in Dumaguete - students, wives, retirees, young women working remotely, etc. etc. There are a large amount of "old white men" who have moved to the country and started families, and yeah, I think they would be the majority of foreigners in the country. But I also know a LOT of young foreigners who are here working remotely and taking advantage of working for USD/Euros and spending Pesos. I think it's peoples perception that the RP is a haven for old sexpats, which isn't actually the case.
@jon2270
@jon2270 9 лет назад
Philippine Dreams At least we agree that the majority of foreigners in the Philippines are old white men and that's what I was trying to get at. Of course there would be white women and other young foreigners in the country but they are the minority and I've never doubted that. But if the Philippines' climate is so good and cheap cost of living why do we not see an equal amount of male and female foreigners in the country? What? Don't female foreigners not want all those things? Instead, its like I said, just droves of old white men moving to the country. To me what Grant Bedard said is true. Females can pretty much get a partner anywhere they live but for older males in the west its going to be a lot harder. And asian women are the ones more open to dating old white men because of the fact they are white and we still have that racial inferiority mentality in the Philippines and would want to see our children marry into white families despite anything else (age) as oppose to black people for example.

I spent some time in PI, in my youth. I've always dreamed about going back. Now, that I'm retired, (Military and police), I can afford to easily live there. I'm 46 now, haven't been over for 25+ years! I keep dreaming of a small Island in the Leyte Gulf where I stayed for months. I don't know you guys. This is the first video I have seen of yours. You nailed it as to where I am in life: Itchy feet. Burned out with the West. In a comfort zone. It's time to make a change! I have subscribed. Thank you so much for this video.

A few subscribers were asking why I decided to move to the Philippines. In this video, I try to lay out the top 10 (11!) reasons why.
@PhilippineDreams
@PhilippineDreams 10 лет назад
+jack c There's a lot of roosters here. And barking dogs. They don't bother me, but maybe I am just lucky. They do seem to bother some people. My only beef with the Philippines is the unrelenting heat on sunny days in urban areas. Then again, we have a metal roof, no shade and concrete walls. Well, at least we don't need an oven.
@roseliopalma9710
@roseliopalma9710 9 лет назад
Philippine Dreams The hot summer season normally start in the months of March through May then June start the wet season. During the hot season months night time is very uncomfortable because of the heat. Living in a metal roof and concrete walls are terribles because concrete absorbs suns heat during the day and release the heat at night. Metal roofing also acts like an oven and stores heat in the attic and radiates heat inside the attic at all times. Proper ventilation of the the attic would help ease the storing of heat trapped in the attic like installing a vent fan with thermostat control set at a desired temperature to activate the vent fan and automatically shut of when temperature cools down. There are solar power roof ventilators you could install if they are locally available.

This video of yours persuaded me to subscribe. We seem to have a few things in common. Like a love for seafood, sandy beaches, being in the company of people who smile easily. And, from a previous video, your love of reading. (Given that you taught for a while at a Philippines University, maybe we have that in common. I was an Econ prof at a US university for 33 years--now retired). The one big difference between us: you took the big plunge and found fulfilment in a drastically new setting. I chickened out. So now I do the next best thing and live vicariously through the experiences of people like you.

Ned how awesome.. I have been talking to a Filipina for 16 months myself.. I took my 3 weeks vacation time and actually went to the Philippines to meet her.. I stay there 4 weeks and came back to the US with the intentions of moving there with her.. there is only one word to describe my experience was WOW.. her relatives took care of me to prevent any mishaps while I was there... And yes we got married.. I will be moving over there sometime soon as soon as I get my sailboat ready for the journey.. that Ellene wants to take with me going to the Philippines on a sailboat.. keep up the good work any advice I will surely listen too... Great video..all the reasons are good. The Philippines is a special place to me and many others. The main issue with foreigners that don't do well in the Philippines is their inability to adapt. Do NOT expect the Philippines to be a poor version of your country...it is something altogether different. But honestly, besides my gf, the best thing about the Philippines is the people. The friendliest people I have ever met...and the most amazingly beautiful, loving, caring, and supportive women.

Ned and Michell. Great Video again. I will be visiting in late Dec 2015 to mid Jan 2016 to see friends. You have given me insight into what i may expect. Your Beautiful Honey and the way she reacts to your words with shy eyes. or loving hugs or bumping into you, her expressions are to die for. adds a great amount of humor to your Videos. She shows a get amount of care for you,, She is a Good Treasure! Keep up the good work,, you said that you were going to go on a vacation on your last monthly wrap up. I am looking forward to seeing that Video too.

Philippine Dreams I know, the rent in this area is quite expensive. Staying here after I retire doesn't make sense. I could use the money in the Philippines and live comfortably over there. Until then, all I can do is watch you guys and be envious ha! For now I have to work and bust myself off. By the way, I am an RN here and working 2 jobs! I am not complaining though...just saying :)

Thanks guys so much for your help. I was wondering because her family would really like me to move there, and honestly if my health were better I'd already be there. But I know it could be impossible for me to get around as I am also heavy, hence the power chair. She is willing to move here, we were just trying to appease her family. Again thanks for taking the time and effort to answer my question. Wish you both the best, and blessings on you, your house, and all who enter there.

I can relate to your reasons for moving in the Philippines. just returned from our (husband and I) vacation but only stayed in Luzon for 21 days. Life here in the US is like being on a never ending treadmill ride (speaking from my own experience). Two things I will never do again- 1. Complain about the traffic here (US) and 2. stress over small things. Good luck to both of you and always find time to enjoy life. :)

Philippine Dreams Right! I still remember that when I was growing up in Marikina way back in the late 1977. when it rains, it pours unless it's a typhoon that can cover an entire island no power, no running water, rations were low and just an out house next to a bamboo shack. The whole shack creeks the entire morning while, we were trying to ride out the powerful wind.. Man! those were some real hard times..

Pretty cool video. I'm an American and can see where you are coming from. It's very hard here in the states, so expensive and so much pressure. Seems like the key is taking responsibility for yourself and having some order in your life. After that, if you are fortunate enough to meet a nice honest girl then you can start a good life. It must still seem to be a lot of work but more rewarding than here in the states. The clean environment must also play a part in it. Having a family is good but must be very well planned. Husband and wife must work together at all times. No secrets or distractions. True commitment from husband and wife and always looking for opportunity for the children.

Check out where I'd be living ( as her mother is kindly letting me live there) but also check out some things, like test my money system etc ) and also get a SIM card registered / set up. Then if all goes well .... Back to the UK for 8/9 months to wrap things up. Ive been planning and planning - I think I'm all planned out. lol. :-)

I've watched a few of your videos and they are great. I'm thinking of moving there from Los Angeles for business. I've been wanting to start doing business in Asia and friends of mine are starting in the Philippines. It sounds good but of course, moving to a whole nother country can be daunting. But I love business and I think this is a viable way to live there. We are in the Rice production and trading biz...

You are one lucky bloke. I can see by the look in your wifes eyes how much she loves you. All the best & maybe we can catch up one day for a chat cheers Rusty

BOSTON! I knew it! I was listening to you speak for about 5 minutes saying to myself "I think this guy's from back home..." I'm happy for you, boss - I moved to San Diego about 6 years ago and totally get a lot of your comparisons, because they're somewhat similar to my comparisons of SD vs Boston when people ask me how it is out here. That said, I've always wanted to visit the Philippines (and as of yet, have not) so I obviously can't *really* understand the Philippine lifestyle. Anyway, you've got a new subscriber. Go Sox/Celts/Pats/Bruins :D

Hi, First of all >>> compliments for this video. Secondly, what a recognizable story. Not all the 10 points, but at least 5 of them. Anyway, I come here already since middle '90's. At that time twice a year holiday for three weeks. The beginning was strange for me. In Europe you have a certain way of living, but what I discovered here, it was completely different. After a few times back and forward, I noticed that I was missing the Phill's, the moment I was back home. So I decided, after retired, start living there. And that's what I did. In between I was hoping to get "used" to >> fall in line, fill out these papers, doing everything two or three times, before something happened etc. On the other hand, the people are friendly, helpful , prices are half, as what I spend before,and last but not least, eventually I found my wife here. So in short, I'm happy. Yes, you're right, sometimes the temperature getting too much hi ( like last week ), almost 40 degrees C. But after two thunderstorms, it went down. Funny to see that >> people , especially the children, taking shower on the street. Staying now for a couple of years and in fact I don't want to go back anymore. My country changes a lot, the last 15 years, but not in a positive way; on the contrary. All in all , like I mentioned, I feel happy here and I hope, that you and your wife feeling the same thing. Grtz from Biñan.

Hi Ned, I just happened across your channel today, not sure how I have missed you since I watch Henry's and others vids daily. Nice to meet ya, and look forward to meeting up with you when we make it over. We're planning to settle in the San Carlos City area initially close to my wife's family. I would be particularly interested in your long term plans regarding immigration. We plan to move there, and I'm still unclear on how to navigate the VISA's and such for staying there long term to indefinite. Thanks! GG

If you are married to a Filipina citizen and you enter the country with her, you are eligible for a free "balikbayan visa." which is good for one year. The details are noted at www.philippineconsulate.com.au/balikbayan-one-year-visa-free-stay.html That is actually the Australian consulate but it applies to all foreigners coming into the country with a Filipina/Filipino spouse. You both would have to leave the country every year (quick trip up to Malaysia or somewhere with a cheap flight) to renew it on the way back into the country. Short, international flights are cheap, so the BB visa is actually the best.

what visa do I need am American Citizen my fiancee is a Filipina we talk she said she want to stay in Philippines so how do I join here in the Philippines?
@sackssixthave.8264
@sackssixthave.8264 8 лет назад
Its pretty simple. You can come here without a visa for the first 30 days. Having your passport stamped is your "visa" for the first 30 days. After that you can apply for extensions. You can also get longer visas like six months (maybe more, I am not sure). Your visa extension is 99.99999999999999% sure to get approved. You would have to be some sort of criminal here to get get a visa extension. You can stay in the Philippines for three straight years before you have to leave. There could be some other qualifications but I do not think so. And when you do leave I believe it is only for one day and then the whole thing resets again. Coming here to the Philippines is easy and living here is wonderful. But I do not recommend living here until you have had a real chance to get a feel for the Philippines. The Philippines is not just a more poor version of America or another first world country, it is in many ways completely different. Be prepared for a super cultural shock. But you might be the type, like a lot of us, that absolutely love this area. And ALWAYS ALWAYS be careful and do your homework when getting involved with a filipina. Make sure she has NEVER been married. They might have been married, but they broke up. But they are still married and it could cause you serious issues with the law here. Always pull a CENOMAR to see if they have been married or not. If they have and have not gotten an annulment it is time to move on. The Philippines for sure has its warts, many of them, but it is also a beautiful place filled with mostly very friendly people and mostly great women.

Ned thanks for sharing about your life. I'm the opposite of you I moved to USA when I was 8 and still have lots of family in Socal and friends. I sometimes miss home but I enjoy my job, the modern conveniences, the nice packed freeway systems. Also the great weather in Socal...the beaches are nice but not as nice as the Philippines and the water is much colder in California. It took awhile to really, really learn the english language and be able to read and write effectively. Maybe one day I will retire once my 2 little girls are grown and move to Buhi which I think is south of Manila where my grandma's house sits empty since she passed away 20 years ago. Took me awhile to get used to the fast food like hamburgers and tacos as well as pizzas. They didn't have those type of foods back home in the 70's. Watching these youtube videos it's amazing on how much the Philippines has grown with lots of different American food. Keep up the awesome job that your doing. Your videos are so informative and I enjoy seeing how things have changed drastically.:)

Socal can be pretty awesome and I do miss conveniences that we have in the US. There are a lot of fast food places here now, which might account for the burgeoning waistlines in some Filipinos. :) Glad we can do videos so you can see your home country.

Hi Ned and Michell. I’ve been living in South America for the past 10 years, and I’m retiring permanently to the Philippines. I fly to Cebu on August 8th, looking for a car to buy. I’d like to find a Mitsubishi Pajero or something similar. I’ll also be looking for a house or an apartment to rent near the beach, where it’s relatively quiet and not too hot, possibly Mactan, Cebu, Bohol, Dumaguete, Iloilo, Bacolod, Davao, or Dauin. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for me. Mark Cohen

ICAPPA All I can say is take your time. All those areas are close together, so you can spend a few weeks here and a few weeks there. You might be put off by Cebu as it is really crowded and congested, but it does have nice malls and conveniences like that.
