Hi Everyone. I hope this video will help anyone who is thinking of giving up. I am sure that a lot, if not all RU-vid creators experience the same issues that I have. They can be really damaging to your mental health and wellbeing. I know some people say you need tough skin to be a RU-vidr, and this is correct. But no one should have to tolerate being treated badly for no reason. There are some not nice people out there and they are the reason why I nearly quit RU-vid. I wanted to make this video to show other people who are experiencing some form of bullying that they are not alone and that they should not allow these people to stop them from doing what they love.

Hi Steve Firstly I would like to thank you for helping me through long term sickness, you gave me a reason to get up and have a go at something new. I have always been a confident person but losing a business, house and being ill I was out of confidence. But now I'm doing resin work and starting to smile again 😁 The only thing I have to say to you is THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT. It has helped me so much. Can you do me one favour and stop making your you tube videos so enjoyable as I get so involved in them that before I realise hours have gone by and its 4am 😂. Seriously please don't let ignorance and arrogance of people who can only be happy making someone else unhappy and questioning what they are doing. You are a wonderful person and great artist. This is the first comment I've left for you and I wanted to say this is probably one of your best videos. I'm a fine artist and a crafter. After art school many years ago, I didn't do any art of any kind because of negative messages left in my brain and soul. Finally, after 22 years I went back and that is now 12 years ago. I've done things with my art/crafts that I never would have thought I could have achieved so, I really understand how negativity can effect us. I truly enjoy all your videos and you. I'm studying therapeutic art coaching so I can share how art/craft can be such a wonderful too for stress, depression and anxiety. To learn this and share with others is a gift. Please stay with RU-vid and continue to be the best you can be at what you enjoy. Having the best life you can is the best way to negate the negative people. And you are so correct when you said they are the one's with the problem. I took may years for me to get that message, but it sure feels better once we understand that. Thanks for not quitting Steve, there's always going to be nasty, rude, ignorant people out there, these people are NOT happy with themselves, ignore them, there not worth it, your doing a great job, & their just jealous, & insecure trolls. Just keep being YOU. I'm glad you got to talk about things like this. It's important to be able to share yourself in the profession you're working in, and it's a great way to connect with people. We love you, and I'd wager the trolls are just jealous they can't be you. Thanks for not quitting! I’m so glad that you do an “unvarnished” channel that shows the imperfect projects, a natural-looking workshop, etc. And I love recommendations! How else would I find good supplies?? Hang in there and ignore the haters. There will always be unhappy people looking to spread unhappiness.

Steve, I was a resin jewelry artist for just over a year, and sadly lost absolutely everything in a house fire. I watched your videos shortly after I started creating, when your channel was newer. After my house fire, I continued to watch your videos, and you inspired me to start creating again. You always have great tips and recommendations! I hope the small minded people don't get you down! While I can't buy you a coffee or join the membership (due to the cost of rebuilding my life from the ground up), I watch all the videos of yours I can. As I'm very sure others do as well. Hugs!

I really appreciate this video and your honesty. I never fully realized the full extent of work you guys have to do just to bring us free tutorials. Part of why I watch your channel is the fact that you share the crafting fails as well as the success. I have learned so much from your channel. After seeing this video I am fully impressed with your character. You are absolutely correct, people leaving the hateful comments are indeed the ones with the problem. A lot of them have nothing good going on in their lives so they see a person doing well for themselves and they want to tear them down to make themselves feel better. I am glad that you have such a positive attitude about the whole thing and I’m most happy that you are staying on.

The pure glee you get when you make a project you love, the twinkle in your eye when you try something new, the giggle when something comes out even better than you expected, all of that are wonderful things that bring us joy, that remind us to look for the fun and positive moments in life. Just wanted to say a massive “THANK YOU” for all the hard work you do and for sharing your knowledge & skills with us. You really helped me get out of a rut I was in after retiring due to ill health. This made me so sad! Steve i started using resin a year ago and watched so many videos on how to but never really got what they were saying but about a month in to my resin journey i found one of your videos. To say you helped me learn so much would be a gross understatement. To this day a year later i watch every video you put out there for us on both channels so please don't listen to the haters get to you, your a wonderful person and truly a wonderful teacher! Also the affiliate links that's so stupid and petty of those people who criticize you, you find us links and put them there so we can quickly and easily find the things we need to be successful if you get any money from it you deserve it because you did the work so we didn't have to we get to find things the easy way thanks to you. I guarantee if you snapped back with do you mind when t.v. stations make money off those Coca-Cola adds or if car salesman gets commission when you buy a car they really wouldn't know what to say. There's a LOT of people out here that love you and owe so much of their techniques they have now!

I was a nurse and injured my back quite badly and have needed a career to help me for a number of yeas. crafting has helped me stay here . I just watched your video and I am glad you were able to vent and get the pain off your shoulders. I have learned from my husband, who works in IT, that people get Paid to troll all sorts of websites including mostly RU-vid. That is a shame. You are doing the right thing by blocking them from leaving comments. My advice is to take one day a week, month or every other month and become a surgeon on that day. Cut out the cancerous pieces and makes sure your patient, your web site, is back to being healthy again. I think this way because I am an artist and a have been battling breast cancer for three and a half years. This is how I get rid of the stress and troubling thoughts that I deal with one a daily basis. Do your seminars, continue your RU-vid videos and tell yourself you are doing a good thing for many people. Think of your crafting as thearapy as well as a job. Keep a positive attitude. My mantra is A positive attitude leads to positive results. I don't mind sharing that with you and your followers. Just keep doing what you are doing. Your are making a difference in peoples lives. That is a wonderful thing. We all need someone like that in our lives. Be proud you are one of those people. I hope this helps. Have an incredible day.

Dearest Steve, I just want to go on record to say that I love you, and your videos are brilliant! You have so much talent, and you always make me smile. I find your mistakes uplifting because we all make mistakes, and you always are so upbeat about errors. I have learned so much from watching you; you’re a wonderful teacher. All the positive comments you get are proof that the trolls are wrong! Some people get off on being rude. The trolls are probably crafters who are jealous of your success. Those awful comments would have really bothered me, too. However, my wife reminded me that the people that did that most likely felt bad about themselves, and those comments stemmed from THEIR issues, which you already know. I just started crafting with resin. After watching dozens of others, I found you. I don’t understand negative people, because I see you as a teacher and someone who has more knowledge than me. Hi Steve, I just wanted to say that I'm truly glad you are still here making your wonderful videos & showing us all your triumphs & things that didn't go so great. I haven't called them fails as they're not, they've still allowed learning. When I first started crafting, you are the person who I latched onto. Steve McDonald I came across your RU-vid account a few weeks ago when I began looking into resin crafting, I’ve been slowly buying items over the past few weeks but yet to find the courage and time to make my first piece. I have found your videos soooo helpful and the fact you show both good and bad results gives me the courage to begin crafting. I was so worried about making mistakes and wasting so much money on a hobby I knew nothing about until I watched you and have learnt some valuable hints and tips. Resin crafting is art and art is subjective so those people who criticise your work have no understanding of your vision, have no taste or are just plain nasty. Your fan base love what you do or they wouldn’t subscribe. I would love to be a member but unfortunately I don’t have the funds but in the future I hope to be…just keep being you and teaching us all what you know, much love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Oh my g- Steve, for every troll, there is a person like me who has learned from you and truly enjoys your videos. You’ve inspired me to try new things. I draw and have never been good at crafting, but because you show what can go wrong, you also show what can go right with stunning results. Hang in there, you are a treasure!

Good on you, Steve! I've suffered from sometimes crippling depression most of my life. My trolls have been mostly in my workplaces, as I don't really do RU-vid yet. It's taken me 64 years to realize I'm better than the trolls. I've retired now, and am so very happy. You just keep doing you.❤️

Some people are just awful... people get so mad about affiliate stuff but they have no idea the true cost of a craft channel.... this is very real and probably how many of us crafty channels feel about things a lot of the time. I'm another show the good and bad because like you say that's how we learn.

Hi Steve, I have suffered with depression for years and lost my job after 2 breakdowns. The one thing that has kept me going and given me a reason to get up in the morning is crafting, and you are one of my most favourite guys to watch. You make me smile and laugh and I love your videos, you seem like such a kindred spirit in many ways. I have had an experience of hateful natures and it made me ill, so I know what it’s like in a small way. You bring light and happiness into peoples lives, and you should never let those hateful, spineless, nasty people stop you doing what you love. Steve, I am watching this video one year after it was posted! I am SO HAPPY that you did NOT quit!!! You are a marvellous educator, and fun to watch - and you have great skills and ideas to share!! It is very sad to me that some folks send in mean comments. There is no need for that! And, as a caring person, of course it would kind of tend to bring you down. I too have been a crafter all my life and always wanted to try resin. Watching your videos gave me the confidence to try and now I am selling my stuff. So thank you. As far as the haters, just ignore them. They have nothing better in their lives to do with their time and you shouldn't waste yours on them. Please keep doing what you do. You bring joy to many people and that means the world to us.

As a new viewer from NZ I have really enjoyed watching your channel. I have only just started resin and, as someone who likes to experiment , I'm encouraged to play with this new craft watching you. I had to stop work in Dec last year due to anxiety & depression and it's a daily battle, but doing crafts (I also x stitch and just started paint pouring) definitely helps. I've had a xstitch channel for just over a year which I started as a record for myself, it's just a bonus (and shock lol) that others want to watch it, and fortunately because I'm so small I don't get trolls, but oh boy have I heard from others ... anyway, I just want to say I'm proud of you. I think the best response to trolls is to keep going and not let them set your path. As you said, they have the problem. Hugs. Katt

Wow Steve. You are strong for sharing your feelings. You are so thoughtful of others. Firstly by showing the bad and the ugly of crafting. I have lost confidence in some of the crafts that I’ve done cause some RU-vid’s always show the perfect picture. Like you say one spends a fortune on purchasing the products and when it all goes wrong I give up on the craft. Your willingness to help crafters set up and start a little business is just wonderful. I became a widow at 58 and have always been a crafter. Sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, card making, candles, now resin. I have created a folder where all your video’s that I find very helpful are saved. Your knowledge setting up a small business would be very helpful to me as that bit of help will create a small income to replenish stock. I would love to buy you a pot of coffee. Not sure how to do that as I live in South Africa. Exchange rate sucks. I will continue to watch your channel and look forward to your weird and wonderful results. People in bad spaces need to be in space and find themselves. All the best

I'm grateful that you didn't quit RU-vid. I've been playing and practicing with resin for that last couple of months, trying to decide whether I'm good enough or not to attempt starting up a small business and selling things. I stumbled across your channel as I was watching tutorials. Sure, your videos aren't "pretty" or aesthetic. You don't have flowy music in the background. You're not always showing an end product that looks fresh off the shelf of some high-end boutique. But that's what I like about your videos. They feel real. And unlike a lot of other channels I've seen, you take the time to explain things that others seem to think is common knowledge. People forget that beginners know nothing. In the last week along, you've helped me not drop hundreds of dollars on ArtResin (from your video on yellowing) and convinced me not to use alcohol inks in anything I plan to sell (from your video with the coasters). I know why not to use a blowtorch on silicone moulds, to avoid using alcohol on them, to clean them immediately after use with a baby wipe instead of letting the resin set and pulling it out. You taught me all of this, and I've only seen a small handful of your videos. I can't imagine the sort of things I'm going to be learning from you the more I watch. So thank you for the work you're doing. It's EXTREMELY helpful.

I love your channel Steve. You have helped me so much through the passed couple of years. I had an heart 3 years ago then diagnosed with angina. 6 months after that I was told I was diabetic. It just seemed that my health was spiralling into an abyss. I needed something to keep me occupied while my husband was at work and I was sat on my own at home. That’s when I came across your channel. You inspired me to try something new and that’s how I got into resin craft. It’s my go to thing now if I’m feeling low, it’s my tonic and I’ve you to thank for that. So you keep on doing what your doing xx

This video hit home for me also, I live with depression also and started my RU-vid and group for the same reason as you, and really enjoyed it and it helped me so much, I have not done a video for months because of depression and the trolls, I dont get alot of bad comments, so the ones I do get really affect me. I have to just block it out and get myself back at it and brush off the nasty miserable ppl. Good video Steve, glad you didnt let them stop you

It amazes me that people have a problem with us making a little money for all the cost, work and time it takes to produce a nice video for learning and entertainment. Please stop letting a few mean people out of thousands that love your work, to steal your joy. At the end of my videos I always tell my audience to Be Kind. I think that’s what we all need more of in this world… kindness. Hello. I do not know English (I am writing with a translator). I watch a lot of videos in English, but very rarely turn on subtitles with translation (usually I understand everything just from the picture without audio). BUT, you are one of the few people I always watch with translation. I watch, listen and translate your videos because of you. YOU - that's what is most important and valuable in your videos. You are a very positive and interesting person! You are interesting and valuable in that you tell a lot in detail, show what problems may arise, and experiment. And most importantly - it's your positive and humor.
