Language is a magical tool that connects people, but when there are language barriers, communication becomes more difficult, especially in situations that require medical intervention. A medical interpreter not only acts as a translator, but also an invisible bond that helps patients reduce their anxiety about language barriers, making them feel more at ease and trusting in medical staff. We will have the opportunity to see a different perspective on the role and value of language from Ngo Y Sa, a medical interpreter with many years of experience. It helps people see the great values that a translator can bring physically and mentally. Through this, we realize the importance and magic of language in our lives. With nearly 10,000 hours of continuous Medical Interpreting experience over the past 7 years, along with two professional certifications from leading industry boards in the United States (NBCMI & CCHI), and a certification in English-Vietnamese interpretation proficiency issued by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, Y Sa is actively practicing and advocating for standardized Medical Interpreting practices in the Vietnamese market through various healthcare projects she participates in. The ultimate goal is to establish Medical Interpreting as an official profession in Vietnam. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
