Congratulations, boss. You are a constant inspiration to me. I wish you all the best in your next endeavor. My key takeaway from the video is that, whatever work one does, happiness and mental balance are very paramount. And wherever one goes, he should always give value. Thank you for sharing this video. It's inspirational.
Well done sir. If you’re not happy with what you do, it will seep into other areas of your life. Money/prestige cannot be the only factors in play. That’s why I’m pressing on and building skill to get to where I want to get to.
I took a new software engineering position at a different company. Been vlogging it as well! Check out this episode and you can see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2M66pchjzDw.html
After all the stories from people who've actually worked in these companies, it doesn't sound that great at all. A lot of the people saying how amazing it is to work in that space haven't actually worked there and have preconceived notions about it.
I think for many, they aim to work in these companies for so long that they build up the idea of what these companies would be. While they are interesting places to be, it's still a job and is very similar to many other jobs except these jobs have higher expectations so the workload may be way heavier than other places and needs to be done to a much higher standard. Definitely produces a lot of stress.
Lol I don't mind. Trolls are gonna troll but it helps me with the RU-vid algorithm so I leave it. My life will be exactly the same before his comment as it will be after it as well @amir meiti
I will be honest. I don’t care about company names anymore. I just want to work in a company that respects me, provides work life balance and opportunities for professional development, and benefits! After the pandemic, I think company loyalty is a thing of the past and I think companies should start realizing that work is work I noticed that those who aspire to work in fang are genuinely interested in the company culture, are just fine being corporate lap dogs, or want to revolve their identity around fang.
FAANG definitely has it's pros and cons and depending on the team you work, expectations will be different. I will say, since leaving my Work Life Balance has definitely improved dramatically. I found myself working crazy hours to keep hitting targets and I just didn't want to do that for the foreseeable future.
Good for you Danny, congratulations 🎉. About 9 years ago I made a decision to go with the company where I felt like I would enjoy my work the most even though I had another offer from another company which was about 10k higher but wasn't something I would enjoy & be happy about. It was one of the best decisions of my life, still at the same company to this day and never regretted it. The salary has almost tripled from the time I started and have been super happy every single day working there.
Amazing sir! Your mental health and your wellbeing is more important than anything! And having u as my prime motivator on youtube, i really want nothing but happiness for you!
It was but I had the wrong sound mode on so it was accepting audio from surrounding areas. I didn't realize I switched it. While not ideal, it isn't the worst but definitely not the best. I'll be upgrading the audio in the next few weeks though
Bro quit just to make a video after contributing nothing for 9 months 💀 u must be terrible if u end up working more hours at Google. The place is filled with so much bureaucracy that you can just coast and do little day to day
Thanks for taking the time to make this. The message in this video is spot on. Being happy and loving the job you do makes all the difference in this world.
sounds like you were working with the wrong team.. the good thing about google is sooo many teams you can potentially join. i think you should of exercised that option i don't mean you didn't like the people you worked with but more in line with the work life balance and maybe even whatever you were working on
I had the offer to work on other teams actually. One big reason that I wasn't interested which I didn't discuss in the video was RTO and moving to Silicon Valley. Selling my house, moving across the country and moving to California with my entire family all because of Google just wasn't attractive to us. Especially when I was already unhappy. Just wasn't the mix I wanted.
I like to code I like to design I also like to enjoy a good meal in peace. Go out and enjoy the outdoors. Hang out with family and friends. Make tech part of your life. Not you whole life.
I've been seeing a lot of coding content creators making a big deal out of them quitting big tech companies, and for many of them it's usually just a 6-12 month employment stint where it was just enough time for them to realize that they couldn't hack it there and were almost fired (like that one guy who was at Uber and now spams his ads everywhere--Freemote Aaron).
Yea, almost getting fired was definitely not the issue even with my old boss reaching out recently to see if I was interested in coming back. Personally for me, I NEVER intended to make this video but all of the comments and messages I was getting made me do it. Also, I don't sell programming courses and don't really intend to. I've helped over 700 people land their first jobs in tech and don't charge a dime for it and definitely do not plan on changing that anytime soon. Just here to help those that I can.
I was on the Dev ecosystem team. The focus more was on leading hands on learning workshops for companies and developers. My main focus was the Android ecosystem since we had just released the Modern Android Development track so we led hundreds of lessons to get developers up to speed on how to effectively use Jetpack Compose, Motion layout, Hilt for dependency injection etc. Still a ton of code and all that but I do like being back in a role that is just focused on solving problems and building up systems instead of what I was doing.
