I wish you all the best shalby! I quit my my job as an RN last two years ago after almost 9 years in the field. It was not an easy decision, but life is too short to dread going to work everyday. No amount of money can buy real happiness, but friends I'm not asking you to resign from your job or abandon your business but be wise!

RN here. I recently retired at 63 and honey I support you 💯%. After 50 yo, I saw the light and hunkered down into a couple of nursing jobs I could simply "tolerate." This took a lot of the pressure off. I left with my health and sanity intact. Best of luck honey. ❤️

Last thing, for those who decide to go back to school try to do it with as little to no debt as possible. That’s partly why people get stuck or feel stuck in these jobs. Also, prepare by saving some of your hard earned money for when you decide enough is ENOUGH. God bless y’all 😉
I am so glad NPs are having voices now. Because there’s a pattern in the healthcare system that NPs are paid cheap, treated less than a medical provider, being under the rules of nurses and other ancillary workers, etc. as if NPs are nothing worthy of anything except to manage patients. Ugh! Thanks for sharing.
Im not in the nursing field at all but this video was very comforting. I left teaching back in November and I’m pretty sure I’ll never go back.😭 Even with a raise, the field is not what I hoped it would be
I quit grad school and never looked back! I’m a case manager and I am happy! No stress and my docs are wonderful! Happy you saw the light and chose sanity!!!!💯
@@toniprater8532 Honestly, discharge planning and population care management has the highest need, you need to look into utilization management, I’m sure you’ll find a position. You just need good organizational skills and be able to think outside the box. Good luck!
As someone who used to work as a receptionist in healthcare and managed the schedules for NP, had to ask rn's and NP's questions regarding patients because the patients assigned doctor were RARELY present. I can understand where your burnout came from. The way I would see the NP's all gradually, then substantially crumble under the pressure and high volume of patients being passed onto to them due to the doctors always going on vacation, schedules being filled due to how sporadic their schedule was at times, etc. It was disheartning to watch. I remember this one time I went to the back to ask a NP if a patient that was 15 minutes late could still be seen ( why the HELL DID I THINK THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA?) she blew it and had a meltdown. I was stunned. I left healthcare after that and started looking at doctors sideways from then on. NP's have too much on their plate which is not right and needs to be changed. Im happy you chose you're sanity and peace of mind over trying to survive in such a overly high demanding environment. Im sure your blood pressure, stress levels, and soul thank you for it everyday. @@ShelbyGunby I heard you Shelby LOUD AND CLEAR !!!! I am a Nurse Practitioner also; and I feel that the NP role is a sham. Doctors DO NOT want to mentor you, they secretly RESENT you and they just want to DUMP their workload on YOU. If Nurses had a decent, set ratio of patients and if Nurses could just function as Nurses not as nursing assistants and if Hospital Administration could just get off of our necks... no nurse would leave the bedside. Nurse Practitioner is just another form of indentured servitude but with all the added responsibility and liability; and don't think that your so called " collaborating physician" will help you because he WON'T and he does not CARE about you. The NP is there to increase the office's patient load just to increase the amount of bills being sent out for the MDs MONEY. Your testimony is spot on!!!! I used to believe that I was the only NP who has experienced this. Thanks for speaking out. The Nursing profession needs serious reform. The public really have no idea how much Nurses are ABUSED!!! Please keep speaking out.

Everything your saying is what doctors actually have to deal with. It just that doctors are not vocal and tell ppl about this, they internalize it keep working bc that’s what medical school trains them for. Working early and staying after hours for no pay, working from home sounds normal. I think as ppl move up they realize it’s not greener on the other side. More money and responsibilities comes with more stress.
I was a Property Manager for 16yrs. I cried every day for 2 weeks straight before leaving the field, because I knew I was unhappy. I became a CNA trying out the nursing field before starting Nursing School. 2yrs in I decided to not attend nursing school, there is a lot that comes with nursing and at the age of 41, I don't have that much of myself to dedicate to the field.
Thank you for posting. I often feel the NP role is often at the whim of the collaborative physician. Run do this..stay late...come early. Dont have a life. Worked 7 days in a row. At that 7th day...done. I resigned.
@@ShelbyGunby @JMH, I totally agree with you about the collaborative physician. The majority of them are not supportive and they can be petty and jealous especially when the patients have a good rapport with the Nurse Practitioner. Perhaps when Nurse Practitioners can work independently without physician interference; there will more reports of increased work satisfaction among NPs.
Whew chile.....a WORD and a half! Life is far too short to feel overworked and unappreciated. Women tend to be caretakers and are forever taking a back seat to others, so kudos to you for putting yourself first ✨.

Graduated 2019 FNP, first job was Urgent Care, my RN background is ER/ICU of 20+ years. The urgent care was not what I expected, like you say a lot of load for one NP! I quit last week! I am leaving it up to God! I feel life is ours to do what we wish and be happy! Glory to GOD! Stay Strong!!

I feel the same way about case management now. I used to love it...but now i hate it! The work just piles and piles and piles up on us now. We are NOT treated like case managers or nurses, but member service representatives. And its annoying. Currently trying to get out of case management now. I am so so so so depressed, probably gained 30 pounds in the last year, and just hate it. Glad for you girl!
My thoughts were the same decided that I definitely would not want to be in the ICU for 30yrs… girl you talking and you sound like me 😩🤣 took me 6 months as well and didn’t want to do primary care! Chile 🤣🤣… That charting is a killer!!! A mess Ok I keep editing my comment but I don’t know why we feel so bad when we decide to leave these jobs and the employer don’t feel bad showing us we matter with more help! I had enough one day after two doctors ticked me off.Simply went and retired with a full pension at age 55,as I had 30 years in the state retirement system,plus 2 yrs deferred retirement.32 years in the Emergency Room, Neurosurgical ICU, Medical ICU, and Trauma ICU which included the Burn Unit,was enough for me.
RN here too. AND I sooooooooo understand what you’re saying and how you’re feeling. I’m there too! I’ve been there for awhile now. Trust God and His path for you. I left a job a few months ago due to a very toxic work environment. I decided to trust God and I’m at peace now. Your peace and mental health is priceless! They can’t pay enough money for that. But being at a job that doesn’t fulfill you and you know what you do or bring to the table is not fully appreciated is tough. I remember days of dreading to go to work and then driving home in tears 😭 after work. I was miserable 😩 It’s just not worth it! I know I’m ready to be done with healthcare and help “care for people” in a different way.
Vascular Neurology NP here. Ex Trauma NP (1st NP job), Ex ED Nurse, Ex-Med Surg, Ortho, Gyn nurse. My advice- look for a specialty that interests you. Trauma was Very Good Experience, but the environment was Toxic. The Culture was Toxic Toxic! I left after 2 years and took my Experience with me. There is a Specialty that will take you. You should look back into Ortho. Make sure you highlight your ortho experience from the Ed (basically trauma, MVCs, accidents, etc.) Also, look at inpatient opportunities. One thing that I Love about being inpatient is being done when I'm Done. Chile I'm not doing Any Charting at home. Wishing you All the Best! I've been an RN for 4 of those years and baby it is not for the weak😫. I have considered opening a daycare due to my growing resentment towards the nursing industry. I'm not an NP but I understood every single one of your VALID complaints. I appreciated your video and this Bible verse. I needed them both. I wish you well with all of your future endeavors. @@ShelbyGunby OH and when you said "It wasn't about the money" I felt that. I have told my husband this on several occasions. When I say this,, people look at me like I'm crazy. That is the point I'm currently at. Money is not the end all be all. There are thousands of options out there.

I read something on Instagram that said “burnout is NOT a badge of honor” and boy did that hit home. P.S. I don't understand why it's so hard to find NP jobs when the work load is so overwhelming. It seems like these clinics are trying to cut corners in order to increase profits. I am a bedside nurse and I like working 3 days a week . I don't want to have to work 5 days a week then have to take my work home with me.
Some clinics(not all) are exactly like that. Pocket more money by hiring only 1 NP. It wears us down…it wore me down. 3 days are DEFINITELY better than 5‼️
NP here. I'm planning to go back to the hospital. I miss working three days a week and I can always do overtime if I want and I don't have to work from my home either!!! They don't tell about all the games MDs pull on NPs in grad school. It's a sham..

This is so unfortunate I don’t hear anything good about becoming a nurse practitioner. Pretty much all the videos I’ve come across on RU-vid about NP have been discouraging. I honestly thought that this would be a path that I would be interested in pursuing, unfortunately I have no interest of becoming an NP.
I definitely do not want to discourage you along this path. My 1st (and only) NP job WAS NOT a good fit for me and that’s okay🤷🏾♀️ I don’t regret that job because it made me a wonderful provider and it also made me realize allllllll the many things that I will not tolerate in a job going forward. I enjoyed the role and the idea of being a NP; however, I did not like my job or the treatment. So do it if you’re lead to and if you know what you want to do with your NP degree…there are a great deal of ppl who actually enjoy it…
It really depends on how you are introduced to NP career in my personal opinion. If you work at an institution that supports the NP/PA workforce it works a lot better. I will say this it’s sad to hear her experience because where I work really supports our career . I remember being in NP school and people would ask my classmates why we didn’t pursue FNP program .. my reason was because I knew exact what I wanted to specialize in and I was already marketable as an oncology nurse ( liquid and solid tumor but more of GYN oncology surgery/ medical background) So post graduation to be honest most of my FNP friends had a really hard time finding a job especially if they didn’t have certifications . I had so many call backs but I literally took my time until the right one presented for me. I waited a few months and kept working as a nurse and made sure the position was exactly what I was interested in period. This is very important. Before accepting a provider role make sure you know what your interest are and find a place they values you and supports your role . Just my opinion. I’m not saying it’s not challenging but I have a work life balance and able to provide patient care in timely manner and chart same day or complete the following morning. This pandemic has really been challenging of course covering other clinic due to short staff but I enjoy the area I work and feel supported with our attending providers and staff. Hope this helps
Girl, I love this presentation. Yes, trust in the Lord. Don’t worry, your next job will come. I also quit on the spot telling the CEO it’s my 2- weeks notice. I was exhausted, he was playing this game, my subconscious was so disgusted that I didn’t even know what came out of my mouth over the phone, when it was done, I asked my self what I had just done. Did I really quit? I told another medical director about what I just did and we both laughed and he told me that next time, think first. Hahahaha!!! I didn’t have a job lined up. My disgust with the mind games pushed me. It was scary and funny at the same time. From what I heard, the CEO was nice to the next provider, offering a decent salary and no mind games. I was actually instrumental in him hiring another provider. I figured, I could still be decent as is my nature. 😊
Chile....at my place, the revolving door moves so fast, I don't bother trying to learn anyone's name. I'm considering so many options. Not quite ready to jump ship cuz bills gotta get paid but I gots to go.....its just too much stress
I stopped trying to learn names for that same reason smh. My motto was, if they stick around long enough i’ll remember it. And i completely understand about not jumping ship just yet…these bills do not care that we dnt like our job lol
Sounds like working in psych. Call pts for scheduled telehealth appointment and they’re at Walmart and say can you just call me back later? I’m like I ain’t ya friend to just call you back later 😏
Gosh. Did u ever get sick 😫? . I totally understand....i am not an NP but, I picked my nurse job based on incentives...not $. I got a mon-fri, no holidays. 26 days leave a year. Paid holidays. And 5% retirement match. I am very happy. I drive 30 min to my job. I have 2 hospitals 5 min away but, the $ is not enough for me to leave. Great video! 👍

Watch & pray, I relied on incentive and differential pays for my schooling and still shoulder the family responsibilities. However, the new supervisor and DON removed all of those and reduced my hourly pay and caught me at a time when I was vulnerable by being busy with no time to think to sign the form that I agreed. Sometimes, I am still upset about it and I still say in my mind that hopefully karma will get them… maybe they already got their karma, but once, only once, I called them bastards.
Chrissy the nurse, make sure you look at your pay check!!! I relied on honesty. It was partly my fault because I didn’t check that I wasn’t paid for my hours. I tried collecting, I was short changed for almost $40k. Never paid me. I was afraid to lose my job so didn’t turn the manager in. I should have… it was years ago already. Once in a while I just wish for Karma. She may have gotten it already…
I caught what mistake you made. You said " I will appeal to you once but you won't take advantage of me", and proceeds to tell about how you came in early. So I think, here, in the beginning, was the most important time not to let your boundaries down, but to set the tone for the future. If you said"NO, I do not plan on coming early for the job, I plan on coming at the time when I am supposed to arrive since I have a dog, pr a niece, or a trip planned", Like, being assertive and keeping your boundaries healthy. When you allowed your boundaries down, you freely set the tone of the job to use you for their benefit and make you unhappy. No boundaries=No hppiness.
It seems to me that they way they treated you was very corporate like. First and foremost was business and employees wellbeing later. It also looks like they had organizational issues. The whole thing about transcription out of the country sounds sketchy AF! What about patient confidentiality? I really hope you find an NP job in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Why most NP go to doctor offices instead of hospitals to departments such as ICU,ER,surgery etc ? So many options and I Always see NP going to doctor offices
Most hospitals are teaching facilities. They have Interns, Residents, Fellows, and Attendings. There's no space for NP. Also, hospitals are picky about experience .
Hospital settings could be completely different. And for all you know, you could love the clinic setting🤷🏾♀️ It’s hard to give you that advice because everyone is different. I know my problem was/is not know what I really wanted/want to do with my NP degree… If you have a passion for a specific specialty (family, ortho, acute care, dermatology), i say GO FOR IT!
Up to 50 could/would be scheduled on some days. Of course ppl would no show or reschedule but even seeing 40 is wild in a 8hr day if you ask me. But thankfully, this is nothing I have to deal with anymore.
