If anyone had told me that I was going to sit here for 24 minutes, listening to, enjoying, and actually being fascinated by, someone else’s career history, work ethic and philosophy, I would have said they were absolutely INSANE! I’ve just been inspired by someone younger than both my children! Wonderful video thank you Roman! 🙂
Good luck Roman! You’re doing what most people don’t have the confidence to do. I’m a project manager and do it for the pay cheque but when I go out and take photos in London (with my x100v) I feel this is what I should be doing. Having a family now I need the security so it will remain a hobby. All the best for your new venture!
Thanks for wearing your heart on your sleeve for use. Very insightful Roman, and I think you can make this work. You have the passion and you're a sensible guy! Keep going :-)
Roman, what a fabulous introduction to you. Love your determination to do your own think. You have a new follower. Now to delve into your backlog of videos.
By far this is i think the longest video I watched from your channel but never hesitated to skip. Inspiring and somehow I can relate with my own life. Thank you for telling us "your" story. Keep doing what you love to do. We are just here to support you all the way. Stay safe man.
you speak right from my soul. I didn't work in automotive but at a public broadcaster and now I set everything on the fulltime-artist-card. It's an amazing rollercoaster ride so far and I absolutely love it :) keep up the good work - subscribed!
Wish you all the luck mate!subscribed a while ago but never commented, looks like we all live same drama you did, congrats on taking the big step, life will get you rewarded!!
Congratulations on your new venture! I too am looking at making some money with photography but not yet ready to make the jump…so i am going to be watching you and how to progress
Thank you Roman for sharing your story so far. Wish you all the best. I am a 55 year old guy who fell in live with Photography a long long time ago ... the feeling was spilled and several RU-vidrs brought it back to me during long pandemic evenings at home. Although STREET is not on top of my list i learned so much from you. I love your mindset - it makes the difference 🙏 best regards and i’ll see you in the next one! 🇩🇪 Frank
Really interesting to hear your backstory and how you’ve gotten to this point and decision. I wish you all the best with it. You’re already a great photographer, videographer and story teller so I’m sure you’ll do well 👍. . I can’t wait for next weeks video.
Thanks Roman for sharing this with us. I can relate to your experiences learning and growing from the many ''not such good'' moves. I am now semi retired and turning back to my life long passion of Photography. I admire your attitude and philosophy and wish you every success. Cheers from Australia and look me up if you ever visit Sydney. BTW I never knew that car manufacturers tested their vehicles until your item.
Good luck Roman.👍🏻 I worked a job I absolutely hated (software) for 17 years, just because the money was good… and it took a real toll on my mental and physical health. But I’m not sure the younger me would even listen if I could warn him, some mistakes you just have to make in order to learn. Photography has been like therapy for me these past few years.
Bro... I couldn't agree with you more about the office culture of people milking their time and just sitting around making themselves look busy to stretch their "work" out for a full 8 hours each day. I had a 9-5 office job for 2 years before I became a full-time wedding photographer, and my immediate boss sat me down once and criticized me for saying I could complete a project too quickly to his boss in a meeting we had. My boss was literally trying to coach me on how to waste time and stretch a 1-2 week long project over 3-4 months and how to make it look legit to his boss so we didn't have to do any real work. Ugh I hated it so much there! Cheers again from south Florida! 🤙🏼
How do you "become a street photographer?" How do you even make money? Who are your clients? Who buys photos of random objects, vehicles, buildings and prople on the street?! - Additionally, who does it often enough for you to generate income from it?! I never understood how people makr money from street photography of all things...
Street photographers like Daniel Arnold make good money. I know some street photographers from NY who work sometimes with the NY Times. I think Trevor Wisecup has posted on Instagram his work for NY Times. Other street photographers like Brian Lloyd Duckett, Vinet Vohra and Rober Tomás do workshops, or publish books, sell prints, work with brands like Leica... There are a lot of options including making videos for RU-vid and it's similar to being a musician nowadays.
@@TENGUJAPON So basically it's a non consistent, risky field of work. I mostly do portraits, as well as motorsports, sports and events for a living, as much as I like street photography, it sounds like too big of a gamble for my liking. I need consistency, 100% assurance and guaranteed profit. Sounds like I would have to give up on all of the above for it.
Well, almost none do. They earn money by being influensers on platforms like RU-vid and Instagram. We live in a strange time and maybe a bit fictive world. But in all the competition on these platforms is getting high. So many wants to join the business.
I suppose one would purchase a photo/print, photobook, zine, etc., for the sake of artistic expression and aesthetic, rather than the practical reason of getting your portrait or life event such as a wedding or graduation photographed. Street photography is similar to being an artist in that way.
@michael True. I was just stating that people who consume street photography do so for reasons of aesthetic and that those people enjoy "photos of random objects," not as such but as art. My point wasn't about whether or not it was lucrative nor was I implying that artists make a lot of money.
Thank you for your inspiring video. I do not need to wish you every success - you will be successful based on your attitude, ability and strong selfreflecting capability. Looking forward to your great videos.
Good for you mate. Hope I’ll work fine for you. I left my project management job 2 years ago to start a photography business but had a child and had to get a day job again. Not feeling bad, and keeping photographing on the side. Wish you luck !
hello Roman wish you the best of luck building this channel , this is the type of videos that alot of us need and i wish you keep uploading these types of videos as your channel grows so we can use it to aspire
I like what you said about making a lot of money then what. I am a certified photographer. I have been a photographer since I was 8 years old. I'm 57 years old now, and still love it. I've tried many things to use my skills as a photographer. It's worked well. I do what I do, because I enjoy it. If I had to be obligated to use the camera I wouldn't like it all. I know what you mean. I found what I like about photography. I enjoy it.😊
I rarely comment but Roman, you will go far. And if you don’t you will at least be happy trying. The perfect antidote to the McCanon wannabes on RU-vid.
Really inspiring stuff, and thanks for sharing this story! Not only are you talented but also just seem like such a sound guy. All the best and keep the videos going! 👍
Your channel is one of the most interesting, I've been watching for a while and never got bored. So good luck for the rest. You're taking the risks many of of are afraid to take "f*** this, I'm going full steam on that." Keep up with the good work.
Thouroghly enjoyed this video Roman, so much wisdom imparted too. I’m one of your older subscribers and really enjoyed the points you made about earning incomes vs what makes your heart sing, reminded me of a lot of the twists and turns in my own working life (now retired!). I’m now living in WA but as an old Kentish Man, (or is it Man of Kent…I can never remember) I thoroughly enjoy your videos and love seeing London through your lenses. Lived there for a while. Good luck in this new undertaking and may you enjoy much success mate! All the best, Stephen.👍🇦🇺🇬🇧😎
I absolutely love this video - many of them have helped me with my Xpro 2/35mm 1.4 purchase. It's been educational and stimulating. Also, seeing clips of the red MX-5 makes me miss my ND, sold it last May. Love that you have gone on your mission, I was forced to last year with redundancy, luckily with some savings and some projects, life felt amazing. I think Joe Rogan calls this Fuck you money, my description is from a working class perspective. Stay amazing, enjoy the journey and keep on being you mate!
Thanks for sharing! I needed to hear this today as well. Similar backstory. Ran my own business right out of college. Went to work for a big company to support my family and young kids. Grateful for the job but my heart is still in architecture and CAD which I’m starting back up on the side. Got into Fuji because of you and have captured some of my favorite memories on my Fuji. Your presets are great too. Would be interested in buying a print if you’re cathedral prints come back in stock. Cheers from Illinois USA!
Good luck, Roman. I wish you success. I'm an ex-pat with an F-Type currently in the shop for a water pump/cooling issue! That aside, I'm getting into photography myself, and I love your channel. Your London street photography reminds me of home. All the best, I can't wait to see you succeed with this.
Roman thanks for letting us into your life story very interesting up and downs I wish you all the very best for the future and with your Utube channel have a great day see you in the next video ❤
Thanks for sharing, definitely can relate to the journey you went through, however I’m not a full blown youtuber but I have made photography as my main career now for the past decade or so with me Mrs 😊
Great vid sir! You've had quite a ride so far! Life is all about learning and lessons, I take my hat off to you and wish you good luck in this next episode in your life👍 Shall await the your next instalment. Take care👍
Good luck, Roman! I wish I could have done something similar in my life, but as a Jewish immigrant from Russia (I live in the American Midwest now), I never had a chance of doing that. I just had to survive. Which I did. Oh, well... Hope you'll succeed!
Thank you and I feel where you're coming from. However it is never too late.... everyone has a skill and an interest they can share and once you put something out there, you never know what can come back.... especially in today's connected world
:) Well, I am retired now, so I don't have to worry about money that much. I do photography because I enjoy it (I do make little money, which is just enough to buy new equipment:). Would love to say Hi when I'm in London visiting my grandchildren -- if it ever happens with Covid, etc. For now, my standing joke about that is: "I'd like to see them before they get married! (The are 13 and 16 right now.) Anyway, my best wishes on your new life!
Lesson #1. No one seems to notice, or care when recording in the real world. I take extra care to find a quiet spot away from public, so I don't bother anyone. I'll set up my camera, stand in front of it, start talking then then someone just comes around the corner, looks at me, walks right in front of my frame, stops there for a while, before moving off 🙃 I'd say, I'm waiting around, more than I'm ever recording 🤣
Thanks for sharing your story. I definitely agree on doing things with a purpose and finding fulfillment within. Best of all wishes in this new endeavor. I've been polishing my photo skills, learning so much about the craft and everything else like video editing and such, so who knows if I eventually start a channel (having a hard time on the topic/niche).
Fair play. Been loving your straightforward but inspiring content! Bold decision to jack in the day job hope pursuing your passion works out for you. Found the canine interlude amusing. Good luck and enjoy the next chapter.
Coming from a pretty much identical career background as yours, I can fully understand why you've decided to go through with it as I've debated the same during the current world state. Best of luck dude; I'll keep watching to see how it goes.
If I ever go to England, I will be more than willing to meet you. And if you ever come to USA , I would love to meet you. I am in Los Angeles. Thank you
I love your channel, and how real, and down to earth you are. Your delivery, and humility really speaks to me, because I can relate to so much of what you talk about. I'm currently in Aerospace & Defense machining/manufacturing, I too at one point was trading stock options, and lost about $9k, and have been getting into photography the last 2.5 years. And would LOVE to make that a full time gig, but I'm shit when it comes to the monetization, and business aspects of it. Only just started my first Instagram account about 1 month ago, still haven't posted anything yet. Anyway, I just want to say think you, it's motivating, because you echo so many things I know to be true, but yet I'm still trying to attain those things for myself.
All the very best for your future enterprise. The travelogue idea is interesting. I found Cornwall to be a dull and faintly hostile environment when I visited many years ago. Looking forward to your take on it.
I don't usually comment on anything but this resonated with me. I found your videos today. Subscribed, liked the video and commenting to support you. 🙌🏻 I just quit my job as well and am on a similar path with wanting to do travel photography. Hopefully I can get used to talking to a camera and try out RU-vid too. 🤣
Good luck man. I wish I had made some of your decisions and just went for some of the ideas where I thought "this might be fun". Thank you for this. Also...get a patreon maybe...I mean you are so honest about what you do, there must be people willing to support you.
Cheers Matt! hmm i did think about it but not for me. I’d rather make digital products / books / guides and thing that might bring value while keeping my videos here on YT without a paywall
@@snapsbyfox Awesome either way. I really do wish you the best of luck and I will check out your shop. And! I would love to do a workshop with you some day. Price sounds reasonable, but do you really do those for only 1 or 2 people at a time? That sounds amazing and like I could actually learn a lot. My friends say that my photos are "great" (being nice I guess), but I really want to do something to step up my game. Anyways, best wishes from Germany. London is way up on my list of cities to visit in the near future, just Brexit and Covid are being a b**ch and a half.
Like the many others before me, I really hope it works out well for you. Very interesting video, surprised that you have not been doing this for very long, maybe it's just your talent that shines through...
