I've stopped shaving for a while now and it was one of the best decisions I've made. I'll admit it wasn't always easy but here's why I finally quit shaving my legs + armpits.

I find shaving truly annoying! And felt I had only been doing it to make others happy. So I said to hell with it and stopped. Now if only other women could see how freeing it is! How do you feel about shaving?

Yes, I did the same thing! A friend saw my hairy legs and I was like oh sorry. Then I was like, wait, why am I apologizing for this?! So nice to hear stories from others who have struggled with the same things when growing out their body hair!

One big milestone for me in my no shave 'journey' was getting a pedicure without shaving because of the leg massage.

I recently went to see a doctor with six students present in the room as well. That was the first time I went somewhere public after I stopped shaving. The (male) doctor touched my legs several times and bent them in different angles and asked me a bunch of questions while the students were staring at my legs the entire time. He seemed absolutely super chill about them being hairy (my leg hair is semi dark and long!) and he just focused on explaining things to his students. To me it was just hilarious because I was thinking it was probably the first time the young students saw hairy legs on a woman BUT I was thinking it's time they see some and was hoping they'd take a really good look. 😁 I didn't say anything because that's the whole point, hair is natural and nothing to even talk about. It's so sad that such a natural thing as body hair even has to be a thing! But i was really proud of myself and it wasn't that awkward after all. 😊

I stopped shaving when I was a teen back in the 80s. I also have been through on again off again phases of shaving. I can't remember the last time I shaved. It's been at least 10 years, maybe more. I love what you had to say and your honest approach about it. Agree completely about each person needing to check in with themselves and their own comfort level.

You go girl! You have my total support! I didn't shave my legs and armpits for nearly 3 months in summer and it felt so good to be the one that desides whether i will remove it or not. I felt more comfortable in my body. I support everyone who chooses to be comfortable in their own skin💕

I stopped shaving during my punk phase in my early twenties up until now at 34. It’s also ridiculous that as women we have to pay to constantly buy razors or getting waxed. I wonder how much money I saved over the years. 😂 I occasionally wax at home though now. Rock those hairy legs girl.

SOOO ridiculous!! Like why did women ever start, such a pain. Def a good way to think of it, all the money to save by not shaving. And yes! I’m going to totally rock them more in public as soon as I get over feeling slightly insecure about them ☺️

Good for you! And honestly your leg hair isn't that dark, anyway. It's hardly noticeable. Regardless, no woman should feel like she has to shave or else she will be treated like a pariah. A lot of women feel like they need to regularly shave or wax their whole body. It's really crazy that so many of us feel this anxiety over something as natural as body hair. Men aren't expected to shave anywhere, except maybe the face. But even that is optional!

And besides waxing and some other methods are super painful, that was the major reason why I stopped doing that… I remember how I was a teen, the first dark hair started appearing on my legs and my family told me how I can remove it. I tried and learnt how much pain it is and my childish simple approach to life literally saved me: why do I have to experience pain when I can just not. Don’t we women suffer enough in life?

I will shave my arm pits every once in a while...but my leg hairs haven't been shaved, over time they became soft & not very noticeable. I could care less if they were. Hardly ever wear a bra either. Much happier.

Thanks for sharing your experience!! I'm kinda late to this video, but it really made me feel better about myself. I'm turning 16 in a few months and I started shaving as soon as I started pubert, but I never really liked it. I stopped doing it during quarantine and found out it's just so much more comfortable for me because i have serious sensory issues and my skin is also very sensitive so I couldn't bear the ingrowns, and the itchy feeling, and all that comes with shaving. I'm still very self conscious about it though, i feel ashamed if wearing skirts or tank tops because i fear that someone might judge me, especially in public. My mom usually judhes me too, and has made me feel really insecure about my body hair but i even though I've felt tempted to shave it i just don't want to, I'm comfortable like this, and i hope to one day feel confident enough to wear a tank or a skirt and not mind people's thoughts or comments. It's noce to hear about other people's experiences with shaving and not shaving :)

Hello, and I am going into eighth grade and have never shaved anything other than my armpits and- knee hair… if you look up “original women’s shaving advertisement” on Google, and click the first link, you can see how the whole thing was just a money gimmick pretty much🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m very insecure about my legs…and that’s sad that CHILDREN have to feel this way😔 I haven’t given completely into it yet though, and I’m not planning on it:)

It looks wonderful and clearly advertises your freedom and strength. Our culture teaches many wrongs to women and girls but teaching that their body isn’t acceptable just how it is naturally is perhaps the most insidious. Keep fighting the good fight and remember, those who react negatively do so from their own insecurities and/or small mindedness. Have pity on them and share your joy with them rather than letting them think they can take it with their comments and sneers.

okay this is one of the nicest comments and i just love how you worded it! and i honestly couldn't agree with you more. i really hate how society teaches us to change so much of who we are to in order to "fit into" what they want us to be. we all would be so much happier if we were told we are beautiful the way we are and it's not us that needs to change but society!

This is amazing. I went a couple of weeks without shaving my armpits. I then started working out with someone and shaved it. I, too, hope to become more comfortable with my natural body hair.

I love that I found someone who stopped shaving and is pale like me, with darker hair. My legs are beginning to look exactly like yours. It is a little strange and I'm going to need to get used to it- it's undoing over 20 years of conditioning to hate body hair- but I'm getting there. I feel more like a wild woman when I don't shave my body hair so, that's a plus lol.

aww yay! It is def a bit hard at first. I mean during the winter it's not so bad cause no one else is seeing my legs but when those warmer months roll around I'm still struggling with being 100% comfortable with my leg hair. But over time it has def gotten easier so I hope the same is true for you!

Good for you! I think experimenting in this way is something everyone should try. I’m kind of the opposite: I don’t like how my armpits look and feel when I don’t shave but the legs don’t bother me as much if I’ve let it go for a while. Go with your feelings and no matter what you choose, it’s good because both are good: shaved or unshaved!

Thank you so much! I really need to see more stories like this because while I'm fine at home and with my husband and kids, I still feel self-conscious out and about. Someday I want to go to the gym in shorts and not even feel a thing about my legs and the hair on them!

I stopped shaving for 6-8 months during covid. I finally decided to do something about it w the warmer weather. My dad gave me a electric razor to use (to give me a head start bc there was so much hair, haha) which was really amazing, to be honest. Razor blades leave me so itchy everywhere and the electric razor, while it doesn’t get my skin blade-smooth, it gets my hair short enough that I’m not self-conscious and I’m not itchy! Perfect win-win.

I’ve also experimented with not shaving and found it very liberating, altho I did go back to shaving after a while. I was using an epilator around that time, so the hairs immediately grew in soft and not prickly, which was really nice. Not sure if I would have lasted 2 months waiting for the prickles to grow out! You look great with and without body hair Brooklyn 💖

i agree, very liberating! I've never tried an epilator but have heard it makes the hairs a bit softer. Honestly, if my hairs weren't so dark I'd be totally fine with it, but it's something I'll just have to get used to! And tysm mishi, you're always the kindest 😊😊

I live in Florida I shaved my legs a maximum of once a month. I'm Italian like I said before. I don't care what anyone thinks about me and I think a lot more people especially someone as wonderful as you shouldn't care either but that's just my personal advice. Love you beautiful! Haha! I also stopped because of not enough hot water! We moved into a bus and having trouble with the hot water system during winter and so I gave up shaving. My loving partner is super supportive and I'm the one still a bit uncertain, especially since I like to wear short dresses and skirts in summer. Thanks for sharing your video 🙏❤

i am currently trying to gain courage to not remove body hair. i have a sensitive skin and it burns and bruises easily and i am done with feeling like this patriarchal capitalist system owns my body. i think it's an important issue that we don't usually discuss when talking about bodily autonomy. i just want to exist with self-love and acceptance, not hate. but i have pcos so i have more hair than usual. i am afraid that people might bully me, or might not want to be friends with me because of it. i do not wear makeup and have short hair, it gets harder to make friends as a gender non-comforming woman. my mom also shames me a lot, i might give up just because of her. i hope i'll be free someday.

I shave my pits sometimes, when I feel like it. But for the most part I just can’t be bothered. I don’t feel the cost of shaving justifies the benefits of it. I just don’t get enough out of it 🤷🏽‍♀️ but sometimes I feel like smooth pits so if I have a bit of time, then I might just!

Also, I think your perspective just changes over time. What fees sacrificial at first just becomes normal eventually. So if it’s something you’d like to keep doing, not shaving your legs, I just want to encourage you that your perspective does eventually shift. Like me, for example. One of the things that helped me to love my body was...chilling out naked at home LOL. As in, if I’m in my room, it’s warm, and I can’t be bothered to put clothes on, I just wouldn’t wear clothes. I grew so much in familiarity and comfort with my body. And now, the fat rolls and totally-not-perky boobs that once looked ugly to me now feel safe and comfortable. My body didn’t change but my perspective did. So good luck! When you start not caring, there’s really nothing that can change that. Hopefully, it will feel less costly and more natural to you 🧡🧡🧡🧡

oh wow, good for you! I kind of hate being naked - just feels unnatural to me. So anyone who can do what you did, damn! Ugh and yes shaving is expensive and the maintenance of it is just like so much. Its terrible but I'm kind of like when no one is even seeing it but me its so pointless to shave. I hope one day I feel as comfortable as you do with your body - but with my leg hair. I agree, overtime I'm sure I'll learn to 100% love it

I stopped shaving too just because I didn't feel like it anymore, lol. My boyfriend of 7 years first said it wass gross too but is used to it now and isn't saying anything because at the end of the day, it's just hair and it shouldn't affect anyones opinion on you. My friends also made their opinion really clear that it's super gross but it's not my problem, and hope anyone who's afraid of others opinions, just still do it! They'll get used to it and you can be the one who other women see and can get more confortable about not shaving too :) maybe in a decade it's not such a big deal anymore

I'm in the same place as you, I hate that we have to shave because of what a sexist masculine society decided ages ago. At the same time I don't feel enough comfortable to go out with total hairy legs, so for now I've decided for a compromise! First of all I shave only if I really need and in general I try not to think about my hairy legs so much as I did before. Thanks for share you're experience =D as you said the most important thing is that we can decide for ourselves without being judged!!

I don't shave because it takes too much work and for a women I just looking like my brother. Lol. So yeah, I gave up shaving to save time and money. Besides, it's natural and I don't care what people think. Sweat doesn't cause the smell, it's bacteria on the skin that does. As long as you maintain your hygiene, then you're good. Anti-persperant is the best.

I started and stopped shaving around the same ages you did. (I was usually going to school & hanging out in Europe about 5 years then.) Then I shaved again for a couple of decades while living on an island. I shave now in summers. I just bought an heirloom razon from "The Italian Barber" website. I find shaving a pleasure now. I wish I had bought this razor decades ago!

@@brooklynbloom It's all stainless steel (no rusting, can be handed down to next generation -- also you get a leather case). They have several styles of razors. And I bought 100 Italian razor blades, change a blade about 1x/month. Very high quality. All for $85 (with foreign fees/shipping).

Good for you! I'm curious if posting this video has made you more comfortable with the idea of exposing your body hair? Part of the journey if you will. I'm a man and I've shaved my legs a few times. I liked the way it looked on me, but DAMN it was a lot of maintenance.

Omo! i need some serious advice here!! 😭 I don't like shaving my hair and I really never did it.. and go around showing my legs and I'll be like ' what's my hair to do with u?'. This is sorta the opposite in my case, i actually suave my legs bc i just don’t like the way it feels. my friends laugh at me when they look at my legs and there’s no hair. they ask josh where tf is ur leg hair? i mean they don’t really care that i suave my legs they just love making corny jokes about it 😂 humor is humor but anywho male or female everyone has the right to look the way they want to look there is nth wrong with men shaving their legs and women not shaving their legs. it’s a natural attribute that all humans have. it’s up to us whether we want it or not

I don’t shave as often as I used to. The only place that I keep clean is my pubic area because of my period. Even then I keep a triangle of hair on my mons.

In Europe many ladies don t shave but I think they are older.. younger generation don t shave sometimes too but in some coutries it going to be quiet normal but Europe is not just France and England....;). Here is a lot of countries you will find majority of young women what prefer to looking good and elegant - it mean for them without hairs...

I'm Italian. We are hair asf! I had a Bush by the 2nd grade and black leg hair by the 3rd, so I started shaving my legs when I was 8 years old. My mom started allowing me to shave my legs when I was 9/4th grade with a buzzer that men use, then at 10 she let me use a actual razor but I was already using hers & my older Sisters razor years since the 3rd grade lmaoo. I admitted to her when I was 12 when I really started. It will be 8 urs living without her on earth June 4th, two days before my 28th birthday💔

Yes, why not I do not shave myself too, if I have long clothes... I m also a bit lazy. But with short clothes I could not do that. It s disgusting to me still, nothing against you but neither in your video is not something I could tell yes, it is looking good, coz it don t. Simply with dresses and skirts it is really ugly. Some people could say that our grandmothers didn t do that too. Yes but grandmothers had long clorhes or at leats wear hose or colored this hairs to lighter colour. Armpit was treated by scizors... so I think this fashion is good only for winter.

it's definitely a bit scary at first wearing shorter clothing items while not shaving but I'm getting more used to each. To each ther own!

Yea I should have watched more of the video. My ex girlfriend didn't shave. Didn't mind , except her butt crack was really hairy. It just spilled way way out!

Women, all of this is cool and all, but just know you’ll be single till you go back to shaving. Some things you just can’t change, just how a ton of women feel uncomfortable with men shaving their legs. It’s a huge turn off to some. To most men it’s the same thing. Some things just don’t mix, so don’t try if you are still expecting the same results because than you are being delusional. Not hating it’s just a fact. You can’t have it all, just please listen to the advice that’s all it is. Your life, do what you want, but don’t get upset with others for finding that disgusting when they do and they will.
