Regardless of brand, as soon as you modified your vehicle, you give an out for the manufacturer.

@@AussieDazza Not sure what you mean. I'm just telling you what the consumer law says. I have a very heavily modified 4WD and have had numerous warranty claims honoured. They always say no, you just need to hold your ground, they will bend eventually in most circumstances, as long as there is not a clear, demonstrable link between the fault itself and the modifications. If you take it to consumer affairs you will win. You don't need deep pockets, you need to be systematic and stand your ground.

Hey mate, sorry to hear about all the dramas. I must say, extremely surprised by the decision. I understand the frustration and all, but this is regular scene throughout all manufacturers on the market. Given that you mentioned that you were hoping for a 10yr vehicle, a denied warranty claim in the warranty period is relatively small in the scale of things? What if this happen in year 6-10? As an avid 4WD and camper myself I think it’s easiest to accept that warranties require a fight for those like us who even so much as put a catch can on. Will be interesting to see what you decide on and hopefully it holds to your standards. All the best mate 👍

Sorry to hear your story but understand your decision. I was in a similar situation as you. Not so much warranty issues. Had a 3.2 twin cab triton from new. Awsome car. Set up for travelling with long-range fuel tank, solar, canapy, arb suspension ect. Towed a off road camper every where. Time came to move up to a hybrid.. Towing capacity became a issue. Same as you the next vehicle was a ten year plan, even longer as I am nearly 60. Had heart set on another twin cab but nothing new fitted the ten year plan. When I did the sums the cost was horrendous . By the time I kitted out a 4or5 cylinder ute I was close to or over $100000. Now this is not a Toyota love fest now. I ended up with a 2008 200 series with under 200000 ks for under $50000. Did a gvm upgrade, draws ect. Changed the airbox. Comfort wise there is no comparison to a twin cab. No warranty issues as the vehicle is well past that. Services are done by independent mechanic locally. Seriously one of the smartest financial decisions I've probably ever made. Probably spent $15000 on bits and pieces on it . But that includes a boat loader drawers ect. Good luck with your next vehicle. Cheers Paul

Nissan "Customer Service" should be renamed Nissan "Dealer Service" from my experience. I've had no major failures on my S5 62, but the Sword of Damocles hangs over my head if it should happen, looking at my engine and suspension modifications. Every single manufacturer has issues and faults with their cars, it comes down to how they go about resolving them. I haven't procured a Ford since the 90's due to terrible customer service (unresolved electrical problem) and my recent Isuzu purchase (replaced gearbox after 3,000km) has left me wondering about their quality of parts and workmanship. So I sold that ute promptly. It comes down to luck and patience with cars. Some cars go 500,000km without a problem, some don't make it out of the driveway. Hope everything turns out ok for you. I'm sad to see the 62 go.

I'm sure you're gonna miss that big v8, that sound is just unbeatable. I'd recommend triton, proven platform, same chassis as mn and ml. Reliable engine and trans and I say the most reliable dual cab currently. Some say it's horrible at towing, some say it tows just fine and id believe the latter. It's not like it will tail spin and flip unless you're a dick driver . Why are people obsessed anyway about towing a big ass, non-aerodynamic shit box behind their vehicle?? Anyways, triton responds well to tuning and I'm sure a good pair of rear shocks and maybe springs will help with towing. Awd and the best ute off road. There's no better option. All the best brother

Modern 4wds are more unreliable than ever and funny how manufacturers are pushing back on warranty claims. They drag them right out because they want you to give up and walk away. Warranty work is bad for business. Even Toyota’s renowned reliability has taken a massive hit with the D4D engine up to present and emissions related technology in those vehicles. Hit and miss with them when it comes to warranty work. Some stealerships push back and others honour the failures.

You can sort of see why they do it though tbh when you see all the videos of folks upgrading what is essentially a mid duty vehicle, at best, and then using them at their maximum designed weight and in crappy conditions tbh. When you look at what you have it's basically a glorified kitchen and closet on wheels imo. Not being rude but essentially that's the case. I just got back from a week away in the bush, not remote, and didn't use most of the crap I took with me tbh. How about starting out with a lightweight setup and perhaps something like an off-road POD trailer on the back? Also look into a more lightweight/minimalist setup which you can always add to as necessary? There is so much top end lightweight gear around although it tends to be expensive. Seems these days that most are intent on dragging all of their crap and a house around with them which is both very expensive and prone to issues if all of the videos I have seen are anything to go by. Just my opinion.

Like many others point out, modifications are often an out for manufacturers... many of whom even try avoid blatent issues nothing to do with mods, het Toyota DPF class action. Interestingly, i have no doubt Nissan will be aware of this vid but wont comment publically. Screw them, many of us in the 4x4 community are well aware of the steering components issues on those Patrols. Nissan would do well to realise that there's a reason the basically are, like the hapless Ford company in Australia, a three model manufacturer. If folk mistrust Patrol, they could quickly become a two model company and slide out of Oz like Holden. However, its clear that wont happen until they first become as disgraceful as Chrysler Australia appears to many, as seen by their crappy sales figures... and all because they didnt back their Jeep products with warranties fairly. Nissan has somewhat of a resurrection with that Patrol, which its clear theyll squander.

I know this video is old, Modified cars will have issues down the line as they're not within specs set from the car makers. It puts stresses and loads on other parts when you put bigger tyres, lifts and add more weight. It's a heavy 4WD from factory (so is the LC300) and you add even more weight to these cars that parts will not last as long on them. I love my Y62, it's stock and does everything i need of it and i only have done a catback exhaust on it because i know down the line it will not cause any issues with warranty if I need. When you modify a car, any car, it's up the owner that the mods didn't cause the issue.

Thanks for the comment and after fixing the problem we found the issue was a faulty steering column which had nothing to do with Nissans diagnostics they believed it was the steering rack, so In this case it was a factory component that was faulty.

It's a shame but hopefully you'll take some valuable experience from this. Car companies and dealers in particular are all assholes. It's about 50 years too late but I think the ACCC are finally starting to take them to task. Hopefully in a decade or so these dodgy practices will get stamped out. The massive fines Toyota are about to pay over the way they handled their DPF issues should be a wake up call to the industry. If I can give anyone advice about modifying a car under warranty it's 'keep all the stuff you change out'. Then if you have an issue put the vehicle back to standard BEFORE you take it back to the dealer for a warranty claim. Yes I know it's a hassle , but it could save you a bucketful of cash and heartache. Good luck with whatever you decide to replace it with but I'd suggest a Thai built overpriced shitbox is not the answer for an extended lap of of Oz. At least not if you want to leave the bitumen. A good GU, 105 or 70 series will be infinitely more reliable. Won't be as comfy or as effortless as the 62 though. Nearly 5 years on I'm still very happy with mine, it's been faultless, but then the drivetrain is still completely stock.

Buying overpriced second hand vehicles that could be full of other people's issues can also be a road to heartbreak and expense imo.

Man I am so sorry you had to go through all that BS with Nissan but I totally agree with you, the moment you loose faith in your vehicle then it needs to go. ( shame on you Nissan ) the sad thing about your experience is you are definitely not a lone duck when it comes to warranty claims, more and more you hear of particular motor manufacturers using the fine print to get out of warranty claims, but let me ask this question- these automotive manufacturers are really good at claiming that their vehicles can have a” towing capability “ ox 3.5 tons when in actual fact that is not true. I truely believe that the consumer watch dog and the relevant government bodies need to pull these manufacturers into line and hold them responsible for what they claim especially when it comes to axle loadings, GVM AND GCM. Brother I wish you all the best in your next vehicle purchase and I hope you do not have any issues and your faith in your new vehicle removes the bitter taste out of your mouth regarding the Patrol. Safe travels and stay safe.👍👍

Sold mine to get a Next-Gen Ranger, and I am loving being back in a Ford. If they were available when I was looking to trade my Navara, I would've done so ages ago. The Nav was not going to cut the mustard as far as towing my van I had on order, so Y62 it was. Wanted to supercharge it, had the money, but after one of the HBMC lines cracked while out at Broken Hill I managed to get Nissan to pay half to replace it as it was only 2 months out of warranty, and given the covid lockdowns, it would, more than likely have happened while still under warranty. I will never buy another Nissan. A lot of ppl are complaining about their Rangers, but mine has been great so far ( almost 8K kms ) and tows my van with ease and uses half the fuel....... Good luck with your next touring vehicle....

It is sad to hear your having so much drama with the warranty side of things and must admit has been a concern of mine since deciding to spend so much money on a new car down the line. I personally drive a GU Patrol in which I go to most of the bucket list tracks, OTT, Simpson, Flinders and of course VHC to say some purposely built for that sort of driving, and the idea of the new car will be for me and the missus to tour OZ in comfort. BUT I do have a question for you regarding the comment Trust in NISSAN. Is it Nissan you do not trust or a Dealer in particular? I have heard not all dealers are the same and some are very sympathetic to the owners. Cheers and best of luck with your next choice.

I bought a nissan maxima from a nissan dealer and it was 2 years old at the time, was offered no warranty on it at all, and nissan promised me car had never been in an accident. Whenni had the car inspected by a panel shop after purchase, i contacted nissan, and they told me this was my problem as i had bought the car. I would never buy a car from them again, they are shonky scumbags! And from every report on these y62s nissan dosent wanna do anything with them. The only problem a 200 series has is the dusting issue, change the airbox to aftermarket, these things are bullet proof. When i had mine drove it down a rutted out massive boulder field road down a mountain and not even a wheel alignment went out. Although they do need brake upgrades, as brakes suck. Sorry for your situation mate, but get a 200 series and never look back
