Merry Christmas! This is the last video of the year, and I am sharing the reasons why I am still actively shooting with Micro Four Thirds, and still love the system today, after 10 years of using it since 2013's Olympus OM-D E-M1.

If ever anybody doubted Robins credibility then the fact he continues to shoot M43 when there is litetally nothing to stop him switching brands, should put that to rest. Even after leaving Olympus' ambassador-ship he still staunchly believes in the benefits M43 can bring. So not only has he shown impressive photography skills but also that he is a genuine guy. Look forward to more of the same in 2024 Robin 👍

@@stevemadden7319 this was your original comment: "You bought it though 😊 I'm sure I've just watched your video saying you're staying with the OM-1" No, I did not buy it. You were wrong. And, I did not say I am staying with OM-1. I said, I am staying with Micro Four Thirds, BIG BIG difference man. Please don't put words into my mouth.
@robinwong
@robinwong 6 месяцев назад
@@stevemadden7319 also, did you even bother watching this video at all? At which point did I mention I used the OM-1?
@robinwong
@robinwong 6 месяцев назад
@@stevemadden7319 what amnesia? You said two things which were clearly wrong, and you did not even want to admit that you were wrong. Let me say them again. You said I bought it. I said I did not. You said I am "staying with OM-1". I said nothing of that sort. I have no love for OM-1 and I will have no regrets if it was run over by a bus.

Had an E-M1 Mk2 and GX8 some years back. Went full frame (Sony a7R4, Canon R5, Sony a7c). Then APS-C (Fuji X-H2). Back with MFT (OM-1, G9 Mk2). The overall MFT experience can’t be beaten - pure fun.

If I had a wish for Micro Four Thirds(since I am an Olympus/OMDS shooter) I would appreciate it if they would turn their focus onto portrait photography and street photography. They advanced already in macro and wildlife, its time to adventure into other genres. Re do all the 1.8 primes, maybe make them weather sealed or make them f1.4's. 📸🎁🎄🎅🏻🧑🏻‍🎄

Merry Christmas from Utah USA and best wishes to all of the Robin Wong MFT community for the coming New Year!!. New cameras and new capabilities will be great but I still have so much depth in the features of my OM system gear to explore. I mostly use the EM 1 mkIII with the 12-100 Pro.. the way those two work together is just amazing! I'm going to say it though.. I would love a high capability modernized rangefinder style body. Keep shooting Robin..we'll be watching.

Yes, the system is really great for street photography and portrait photography , a shame they only focus on wildlife photograhy nowadays. As if every photographer has a mountain or a couple of lions or eagles in it’s backyard. They forget most people just want to make good photo’s of their children or their travels - both subjects the m43 system is particulary good at.

Hi Robin, I rarely comment on videos but I have to say how much I love this one! I have been a serious photographer for 20 years. When I say "serious", I mean a collector of bodies and lenses from 4x5 film to pinhole cameras to DSLRs and APS-C... you name it, I have probably owned it. I love cameras so much but for me, it's about the beauty of holding them, operating them and of course, seeing the final image. Recently, I looked back at some of my earlier street photography photos. Before I bought the Ricoh GR in 2013, I was shooting with an Olympus e-p2 and the 17mm 1.8. And you know, just looking back at those photos I couldn't believe how wonderful they were! At that time of life I call "before Fujifilm", I had never felt so nimble! The camera just got out of my way and let me photograph what I saw. With all the advances since then, there's too much effort in setting the camera up and all the bells and whistles and so... Last year when deciding if I would upgrade my Fuji x-T30ii to a Sony, I turned back to M/43. Because of your channel and Emily's channel (Micro Four Nerds), I felt compelled to try to seek out that feeling again that is so unique to the system. I picked up the Panasonic GX9 and went on a trip to Toronto. These were some of my all-time favorite images! I soon started accumulating lenses. This week I will receive in the mail an excellent condition the Oly EM-1 II and a 75-300mm lens to test it against my Fuji XH2S and Tamron 150-500mm on travels. I am keeping my expectations low, but I am hoping that shooting with this set up will bring me as much joy as my GX9 does. Thank you for all you do for the M43 community!

Excellent video Robin! I have recently returned to M43 after years of various Fuji and full frame systems, for all the reasons you stated. What finally convinced me was a recent cycle tour of Tasmania, lugging along a Panasonic S1R & 100-400 wildlife lens. Technically brilliant kit, but in practice just a pain. By the time I saw a scene or critter, parked my bike, opened the rear pannier, pulled out the camera, taken off the cap, reversed the hood.. well, you get the idea, either I just couldn't be bothered or the bird had flown away! Now, a GX8 with 50-100 zoom is so compact it fits in my front handlebar pannier all ready to go! I don’t even have to dismount my bike, just grab and shoot! The fun of cycling with a camera has revitalised tenfold, now I get the shots, and I will never go back to a bigger system.

Merry Christmas from North Carolina! I've been very happy with MFT. It's my first and only interchangeable lens system mainly because learning to use different lenses on any system is something people take for granted. I'm using the same lenses I take for outdoors photography for street photography because of how versatile and reliable this system is. Thank you for showing us how fun photography im general is.

Merry Christmas Robin! You nailed it on this video. I have been a professional photographer since 1976 and have used many different systems over the years. I use the Olympus / OMDS system for 95% of my work (I also have the Fujifilm GFX 100 II / 50s along with GF lenses for certain client projects which require that gear), and when I am reaching for a camera for my personal work, it's the Pen-F! I love the M43 glass with the amazing range and choice we have available, which is unmatched in any other system. I am happy that there are many manufacturers producing cameras to allow all photographers to find the right tool and fit for their creative endeavors too. Wishing you a healthy and prosperous 2024!

I hope you had a great Christmas, Robin, and THANK YOU for the awesome videos over the years. A few years back I bought an E-PM1 and soon found out I disliked all the menu diving that was neccessary and lack of a grip. I traded it recently for a 1.1 because of the features and the grip for longer lenses. I plan on getting either the 1.2 or 1.3 next year. Just tonight I have been watching your videos and setting my 1.1 for better images and use. Priceless info!! Shoot the system as long as you love and enjoy it, that's what really matters.

Thank you Robin fot this video. My first camera was Olympus e410 and since then I was loyal to 4/3 and m4/3 system and of course I had doubts if m4/3 will have a future. But when I was shooting I was telling myself that I don't need a 50+megapixels and I do enjoy this system because of how small and good quality lenses are and the weight for the whole system. And I am glad and very happy with my m4/3 system and I am also glad that Panasonic and OM system are making new stuff, just what they need to do is make another G80/E-M5 that will be priced reasonably and will be packed with tech.

Another reason that is true for me and I see for you I bet for a lot of people, is that these cameras are actually fun and enjoyable to use. I converted from Nikon FF to MFT in early 2017 with the Em1 MkII. That camera is almost 7 years old and I still love it. I have since added a MkIII and an OM1 and have quite a few lens Oly Pro, Panny Leica and some vintage lenses. I never see any problems with image quality and love what I am getting in a large variety of situations, so I never get why people are so caught up with how much better the IQ is on larger sensors. I have made some really big enlargements with no problems. I love your videos Robin! Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing you in 2024.

Great video, and great point. Some people get so caught up with the latest and greatest camera that they forget to make the most of the gear they have already. I bought a GH5 II last year, because it was cheaper than the GH6, and more than sufficient for what I needed. All modern cameras are amazing, and, by now, the quality of the image / video is more down to the talent behind the camera, rather than the camera itself.

Merry Christmas Robin. I wish you the best for 2024. Hope you keep creating great MFT content. I love compact cameras and lenses. So far I have been using Sony RX100 series and A6000 with compact lenses between 24 and 50mm, but thank to you and your videos now I’m planning to invest in MFT soon in the future. Mostly because there are compact lenses like 75mm f1.8 which does not exist on APSC regarding to size and compactness.

I'm quietly pleased that Panasonic released the G9ii. If they're still developing m43 cameras then that hopefully spurs OM System to up their game.

I hope both Panasonic and OM Digital Solutions get their act together and start taking their strategies moving forward more seriously. I still believe in the system, I hope they can make it through.

I completely agree. I use a Panasonic Lumix GX8 and an Olympus E-M5 iii for most of my photography - especially for concert/event photography, and I'm very happy with the results. In fact this Christmas I was gifted an old Leica Digilux 3 four thirds camera. I only started using it today, but even a camera that old delivers RAW files with so much data and potential, it confirms, that the sensor size is not a problem. I love the size of the micro four thirds lenses and cameras. I can walk around a crowded concert venue with a small shoulder bag with extra lenses and my two work horse cameras hanging around my neck - one with a wide angle fast prime and one with a longer fast prime (the Olympus 45mm f1.8) with ease. No weight issues, no big camera/lenses getting in the way, when I move from one ideal photography spot to another - and I get great shots. I recently picked up a non-Olympus/Panasonic MFT lens - the Sigma 30mm f1.4. It's slightly bigger and a little heavy, but I really look forward to trying it out the next time I get to do some concert photography, because so far I'm really impressed with the results I have been getting.

I have made a video trying out the Sigma 30mm just very recently! And thanks for sharing your use experience with Micro Four Thirds, for music/concert/stae, it is almost the perfect system!

Nicely said Robin. I hear you. I bought my Canon m100 few years ago, as it was the cheapest (that's all I could afford), and a publication suggested this was a recommended entry level camera. I have not even pushed it to it's max, but still there would be times of post purchase dissonance. Eventually I added something that is the absolute real power of this system, ef-m 22mm. This one lens completely changed the experience and delight I started getting out of my camera. I can take my camera to cafe's in the evening, and get the kind of shots that I like. For all these years, I have stuck with very basic image editing (just crops and basic adjustments) in PC, or snapseed on phone. Now I am hoping to get a software that can help manage noise even better. I have matured as an enthusiast watching sensible content from you and others, and I realize the complete ecosystem one possesses is what makes a good photographer/publisher. I really admire the MFT system, hopefully I get a chance to experience this.

The Canon mirrorless that you have is a great camera, and that 22mm pancake is a wonderful lens. You are right about a system, it is not just a single lens or camera, but you have to look at the system as a whole.

Thanks Robin. You are precious for your posts and you shoot with Olympus. I use Canon R7 R6 and Sony A7RII and appreciate them too. I often have to look at the information on photographs I have on my ipad as I often cannot tell which camera I have used especially when using the High Resolution setting on the Olympus Em1 mark III. Your photographs are superb.

I have been trying different models from Olympus and Panasonic MFT and none of them were disappointing me in terms of quality and the price in second hand market is quite affordable for a hobbyist like me. I am also trying to enter into Fujifilm X but the only benefits I can see is the sensor size.

My MFT gear travels everywhere with me and has created so many amazing prints and photo albums of my family's vacations. The 8-25 f/4 zoom is an incredible optic for landscapes all the way through everyday documentary style shooting and it's balanced perfectly with the E-M1 and OM-1 bodies. I shoot Canon R6 and RF lenses for events and most professional work, but Olympus is my go to for everything else! If I had a wishlist from the MFT brands it would be for a street photography oriented camera with the latest sensor and menus from either OM or Panasonic (PEN-F or GX9 successor) with a 2-axis tilt screen like Fuji uses. That would be the unbeatable street machine 💪

Robin, you're great! I shoot on an older Olympus 4/3 system. Cameras E400, 450, 600, 620. My favorite set is E450+ Sigma 30/1.4. I myself want to start a whole blog about Olympus SLR cameras. Printing a photo book is a pleasure for everyone, both you and your friends. And how did you resist posting just one photo of a cat? I wish you success and strength next year!

My favorite part was the "truly enjoyable system" section of the video -- almost brought a tear to my eye, you can tell how much you love m4/3!! I feel the same way. It's just a fun system to use, and every time I've been somewhere shooting, people are curious about my gear -- I think it's because they cameras have a unique vibe/look... retro, without trying to be too overly retro! I've been shooting Olympus gear forever and still use my trusty E-1 (one of the greatest DSLRs EVER made!!!) How many Canikons from 2003 are still in use???? Probably not many, and that's a testament to the quality of the old Olympus gear. I also have an E-30 from 2008 -- still works perfectly! Now I mostly use my EM-10MII with the tasty little Panny f1.7 prime. So small, and the images are STELLAR!!! And... can we all agree that Robin is the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) when it comes to RU-vid photography channels???!! There's no doubt about it!! Happy New Year, Robin!!

Hi Robin, wishing you and family all the very best this xmas!!! I have a great affection for you and your passion for photography. I like MFT too. I have been using MFT for about two years now. I think that because the first true camera I had was the Canon 450D all those years ago, that's the interface and layout I am still most comfortable with. I still don't feel "muscle memory" comfortable with Olympus in that I always have to think about how to adjust the thing I want to adjust with Olympus, whereas with Canon, whatever I thought just happened in real time without me having to think. Even so, I really enjoy MFT, especially the size to image quality ratio. The Olympus camera setups are so small and light that I don't mind carrying them along for things I wouldn't dream of carrying around my DSLR setup.
@robinwong
@robinwong 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for being here and I appreciate your support. I started with Olympus DSLR, which basically carried over the same menu systems and control layout to their Micro Four Thirds cameras, hence for me operating the camera system is a lot easier. I can understand how it can be difficult from someone coming from other systems.

been itching to try a different system, despite mainly a m43rds user but i cant help trying either Sony, Canon, Nikon or Fuji as a second body with its own purpose and all rounder. dont get me wrong i love the compact telephoto lens m43rds offers but id feel complete with an accompanying slightly bigger or full frame sensor body for everything else walkabout setup. it won't stop me from watching your enthusiasm and loyalty to it all, because time to time there's definitely things i haven't even tried or learned about making full potential of the sensor system

Agree totally with your mentioned points. I bought full frame apsc camera and every time i realize that my Olympus E M1 mark 1 performs better over all. The Color Science is still the best IMHO. I sold my Sony A7, my Leica ME and Sigma FP to keep shooting with my EM1 only. Best EVER
