I started on launch day in 2007, bought lifetime and play to this day. For me it's several reasons. I love the attention detail, the scenery, the soundtrack, I love the housing(I bought all of Bay Street in Belfalas lol), the cosmetic clothing system, and the story lines are just incredible. And one BIG thing is that the game is extremely casual friendly. That's a major thing for me.

I. Love. This. Video!!!!! I’ve been playing since August after launch (not quite from the beginning). I’ve played this game as long as I’ve been married. I love the community. I love the lore. I love the gameplay. And, especially recently, I love the dev interaction with the players. There is no other game like it. I hope I can play for 15 more years. Amazing channel!!!

And then there is housing, man... I know you're not very big on that, but in addition to everything you said that is the absolute cherry on the cake for me! It just gives you a chance to really immerse yourself and feel like you live in Middle-Earth. And as a fan of Tolkien's world since age 4, this is what keeps me here - living in his world. It's the best adaptation of his world, and I just love everything the game offers, from running challenging raids to fishing for hours. It's just incredible. And the story telling is amazing in the epic lines and some of the side quests. Just top notch story telling.

The housing could be improved too. Gardening/farming and crafting could be done better from there. Breeding animals/pets (for LM or others). Could even include family members (alts visiting) -- it's instanced, I think, so doesn't suffer from lag, I think?

You nailed the reasons I love playing LotRO as well. I would also add that I have been playing MMOs since Dec, 1999, ironically with LotRO's original developer's game, Asheron's Call. I played it for many years. While a Tolkien fan of both his books and Jackson's movie interpretations, Turbine being the developer was my main interest with LotRO when I started playing it off and on in May 2007. It has a similar playstyle and overall feel, plus Turbine's ability of creating an expansive and amazingly huge world to get mentally lost in. I love the adventure and ease of play. i don't have to go full bore always grouping. I can casually meander around the world as a solo adventurer, enjoying all the nuances, sights, and details, while now, increasing the landscape difficulty.I even created a new character for the sole purpose of playing at a soloish landscape difficulty of 3. While still easy enough, it has added a nice challenge and a different avenue of thought o n how to eradicate the foes of Middle-Earth. Personally, I have always enjoyed a slow pace for leveling, and even now use a tortoise shell so I level slower and don't fly through content surpassing a lot of it due to over-leveling, I can now casually do my deeds in the area, my quests, and my epics. I will use regular pocket items until I get close to a new level, replace it with a tortoise shell, finish up the quests and deeds in the area, and continue my adventuring until the mobs are mainly turning red/orange as I finish areas, or get to an area where the landscape is too harsh at current level and mobs are red/purple. As for endgame, it just isn't for me. I don't mind raids, but the adventure from level 1 to 140 is much more fun than 140 and the rinse and repeat of raid content that is only changed by the instance level. I would rather have been 40 something, wearing my winter cosmetics, while fighting and adventuring in Forochel, or Misty Mountains, occasionally taking a break with my trusty dog I named Sam (after my RL cat that past away a few years ago) so I could start a campfire (new landscape character is a hunter), and using the elevenses emote to eat a delicious pie, and apple and sip on a warmed beverage. Yes, in my mind, my character gets hungry. That leads me to lastly, while I do mainly adventure solo, I love seeing other characters running through the landscape, knowing that is another player sitting behind their game in another part of the world somewhere. I might emote a wave, or salute, or just admire their cosmetic fashion sense, or lack thereof - who would wear a thin dress in the freezing cold of Forochel??? I welcome anyone that would want to adventure as I do, if on the Brandywine server, that likes wearing weather/landcape appropriate clothing, that isn't looking to become level 140 as fast as possible, and likes to just....adventure for the sake of....adventuring and checking all the little nooks and crannies of Middle Earth. I do miss playing with my ex as she did also like to play as I do, but sometimes RL has different paths in store. Again, as I normally make a post on a Louey7 video, they tend to be a book. His passion for the game and his detailed videos, are like fuel for my responses that I will sometimes get carried way with as I ponder my adventure to come in what is the greatest MMO still in my opinion....LotRO. Thanks Louey7, never change! Ealaed Dunedin Level 50 something Brandywine Hunter currently in the bowels of Moria, deep in the caves of gloom and doom...

I've been playing for 15 years and I LOVE IT! Like you it turned me on to the world of Tolkien rather than the other way.. What I like best is the versatility of game play - I can quest or raid or do some crafting, fishing and I really enjoy the missions, delvings and skirrmishes. I was a late comer to the lower level instances and found that they were so awesome! LOTRO has brought me so much joy and happiness over these years. I'm an older lady now turning 60 this year but I feel like I belong in this game and have met some wonderful people. I'm part of a kinship that used to be heavily into raiding in 2011 to 2013 but now we are just doing our own things and may get together for a 3 man instance on occasion. One of my fave things to do is craft some low-level weapons and armour and give it out to folks in the starter areas! So much fun 🥰

I tried to like this game a few times, but never made it past lvl 24 :). I dont like the dozens reward items that spam up my inventory every time i log on. Especially because the inventory is so cumbersome to work with. My other issue are the many skills that all seem to do the same thing. Even before lvl 10 your hotbar fills up with skills or spells and you its not clear why i should even use some of them. Also the 130 or more levels should finally be condensed and dmg numbers be cropped. Hitting for 30k dmg just looks weird. The new difficulty system is a great idea but it doesnt fix these major flaws.

I started with EverQuest not long after Scars of Velious came out. I switched to World of Warcraft shortly after it came out. Among the other MMOs I have played are: EVE Online, Star Trek Online, Guild Wars 2, Neverwinter Online, Elder Scrolls Online, Anarchy Online, New World, and a few others, including Lord of the Rings Online. The only ones currently installed on my computer are EVE and LotRO. Both have compelling gameplay for different reasons. I adore the immersion that LotRO offers, and the variety of classes.

I started playing LOTRO almost 14 years ago, before Rohan came out because I remember that being a big thing (and a big pain in the backside with the warsteeds bouncing around like pachinko balls!). Fast forward to today and many characters later, I still have fun exploring the locations, doing the quests, and just immersing myself in the world. I don't think there is another game, at least an MMO, that has that same appeal for me. Along the way I met lots of wonderful people, some who are now great friends, and it's been a good time. I think the last server would have to be shutting down before I stop playing.

Interesting about the "reverse" he said about the lore. I tried it way back and the same happened to me. I knew little and stuff kept happening that perked my interest instead. It helped that back then I was in a guild (kinship, I think?) that was active and knew stuff because asking stuff when for example I see Tom Bombadil walk in and made evil stuff scurry away like he was a big deal (and he is!), because he doesn't even EXIST in the movies. They made really great use of the lore in this game and it never felt like you were just "playing the movies" or whatever most games tend to do when they take a beloved IP.

I played from right after launch up to just before Rohan and came back a couple of years ago. I found that I also still love this game. I am routinely astonished at the attention to detail the devs have given to LotRO. I was just goofing around in the Sutcrofts yesterday gathering skarn to craft an old shield as a cosmetic item for another character and whilst riding around I just stopped and looked around and thought (yet again), "They just did a truly beautiful job with this game". Part of me wishes I had stuck around and experienced all the zones from Rohan onward when they were new. It just got better over time, not worse.

I subscribed to the game for awhile when Turbine was around but when I dropped that I did the game as well as it had an absolute rubbish f2p mode for years on end, only being upgraded to something approaching modern standards over the last few years. During those years I was subscribed to another game so didn't spare much time to trying out modern LotRO despite that positive change. I'm not subscribed to any MMORPG at the moment so am somewhat tempted to give it a go again, but I'm primarily a solo player now that I am no longer with my long time companion and I'm not particularly gregarious in nature with people I haven't known for some time. In older MMORPGs such as this that can be a limiting factor on play more often. Anyway, it's good the game is still chugging away so those that call it home can continue to enjoy it. Hopefully they will be so blessed for many years to come.

FFXI Horizon has been the best leveling experience I've had in any MMO in a long time. Probably the best MMO experience in general. Fishing memes and stability hiccups aside. Biggest problem I've had with LotRO was just how difficult group content was to find a group for. Spending hours at a time looking for a group just for a quick 20 minute experience. Worst experience was New World, legitimately the Wolcen of MMOs. I'm not getting paid to alpha test your game Amazon!

Rift started out great, but lost momentum, ended up with a less than ideal publisher -- then microtransactions settled in. It had real potential though. The classes in LotRo are the best in an MMORPG in my opinion -- although World of Warcraft is not too bad. The problems with LotRo are "only" technical: wish they could have done like World of Warcraft and found a way to keep the engine/graphics more credible. The epic questline is also another lost opportunity in LotRo: should have made it shorter, better and with less need for Mithril Coins to get the questline done. Still, one of of my 2 favorite MMOs of all time. I played when it was first released -- was absolutely fantastic the first year.

I dread entering my first dungeon due to worrying that I wont be able to tank well enough. i've always thought lotro has the best feel / atmosphere than ANY mmo out there. All these years i've been trying to capture that same feel in countless mmos but they just can't get even close. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the combination of all the music / lotr world / pace of the game etc. I've never actually played lotr in high level ever. Currently I'm leveling a character that is level 61 (ive never been this "high" level) and I can't wait to see what the game still has in store for me. I also love how the leveling journey takes a long time. unlike other mmos where you need to rush to max level to do the actual content that you run out in a month. But in lotro the whole journey is the content.

Warden also brings me back to Lotro, and generally keeps me longer than my Gelatinous Cube mount in Neverwinter. I feel that Lotro is an easy game to return to without being overwhelmed. You might have to re-spec but consider how often they revamp the entire LI system in comparison to how WoW resets its progression every few patches. You can absolutely enjoy your time in the game without going anywhere near level cap and the zones stand as fully realized places, even after the meta has moved on. I never feel pressure to play.

No MMO came even close to the sense of adventure I get when I play LOTRO. For me the game is not really about grinding levels, but enjoying the journey. I have never enjoyed reading quests in MMOs but I do so in LOTRO and it is probably because of Epic Quests. They connect the zones and entire world together unlike any MMOs of it's time.

Thank you for doing these videos. I think I've played for 12 years or so, I primarily play LOTRO for the lore, I am a huge Tolkien fan, so that is number one for me. That said, there are not many solo games with this amount of lore-accurate content, I primarily play solo, with occasional pick up parties, mostly just due to my busy schedule, I don't have time to wait for a raid to organize, I get on for 30 mins or an hour when I have the time. I have played through most of the content at least once with my main, but playing again as a different class is like reading a good book again, that I had forgotten a few of the plot twists, I tend to stick to one character for a few months, other then festival play. I think I have 2 or three max alts, and many in the 49 to 70 range, mostly due to Alt Fatigue (And Moria... so many deeds), I wanted to try every class, and some are harder then others to get into the rhythm. I am really liking most of the changes that are making this game Alt friendly again. I am not saying there's anything wrong with group content, and when I have done groups, its been very fun, and very few negative experience, If someone is enforcing raid level gear only, I just don't join that group.

im really into lotro for the story, tho its a game that makes the experience extremely difficult for new players, it completely needs a leveling revamp (like the ff14 one), not cutting things, but making them a bit faster, and more streamlined (like, i droped the game when i got to trollshaws because everything felt wrong, it took me a while to realize that it was the correct zone I should be playing. inventory management is a pain as a new player, and i feel like i waste so much time just managin my inventory instead of playing the actual game. the game forces me to not play in order to deal with the issues they created by themselves (like task items). also, the events tho most of them seems fun, i dont understand half of them, nor i'm interested on them because its just too much, questlog filled with quest i dont know if i need to do or not, tons of things we should be taken care of (professions, deeds, items, inventory, farming and crafting, housing) missions that send you to do completely random things to maps you dont know, events popping up telling you to do things you dont have a clue how to do (as a new player). etc, i find myself looking into the wiki a lot to be able to solve things (that bilbo riddling things, 2 hours searching for a horn that was in a completely different building and never was a horn actually). its like the game itself forced you to do unmeaningful and boring things that just feel like wasting precious gaming time. loving the game tho, amazing world, combat feel nice, classes feel unique, and community rocks. just the new player experience and the UI feel completely outdated. hope they learn from FF14 and how they handled a realm reborn (ff14 base game that had the same problem as Lotro regarding new player experience... you are presenting your game to new players with the older content available... the first content, even if new expansions brought modern content, missions and map, the older content is what they give as a taste of the game for newcomers.

I love lotro and same reasons except gameplay make me play the game. Gameplay actually good but I have a lag everytime I press a button 1 second later action happens because of this reason i always take a break in some specific unbearable locations. But one day I'll hit level cap I believe :) I love your content keep continue and I'll always watch it 👍

I'm struggling to stay motivated to play, any chance of SSG helping me out, you guys think? I love the game and I'm a paying customer but a game crash caused my first character death and any opportunity to earn the "no death" title. After spending dozens of hours on my character, I basically have 0 motivation to play anymore after being robbed of my achievement. I put in a ticket, but I don't know if they'll help with something like this. Does anyone have any experience with something like this?

What is the daily/weekly/montly playerbase? This is the only thing, that holds me back playing it. I just don't wanna get in to an MMO, which is already lost the majority of it's population. Played it back in a day, but during the time WoW: Tbc came out and moved back to it. Tried so many mmo rpgs the past years: Lost Ark was good, but whales and bots killed it. 600+ hours. Elder Scrolls Online: Way to unsocial experience, medicore combat with animation canceling. ~800-900 hours Neverwinter: Lot of monitization, pay to progress, nearly no socialization. ~200 hours Star Wars: Old Republic: Awesome game in almost every aspect, but low population. ~300 hours Guild Wars 2: Still playing it, but something still bothers me, which i dunno can't tell. ~300-400 hours Final Fantasy XIV: It's not bad, but i just hate JRPGs in general and i'm not fan of the series. ~100 hours WoW Classic (not TBC :( and not Wotlk): Waiting for a fresh start. Although there's hardcore, but i don't even wanna try it, cuz even tho i love the challange aspect to it, i already know i would die to a party or raid member, cuz they fakk up something. ~700 hours + private servers ~800 hours Only game i didn't try is New World, which honestly is not bad, but i'm looking for a tab target MMO RPG.

Living in Australia and not having any OCE servers makes the whole experience unfortunately quite unenjoyable which is a shame because everything about the game its appealing to me, I love MMOs, I love LOTRs but have crazy high ping and constant DCs just ruin the experience and until there are OCE servers (which I know is extremely unlikely), I can only experience the game through RU-vid videos. It was the issue with FF14 but they eventually gave us OCE servers (it only took them 15 years). I hope one day in the future they give us a server and I can finally join the adventure, just a shame so many game companies don't seem to care or for some reason believe there is no market here.

I also live in Australia and the game works fine for me. Might be a different issue then because I play on Gladden, a US server, and as I said it's completely fine

everytime i think about playing, i'm reminded of the negtive reception of mounted combat and of how hard mordor was at launch. i'm still in mid moria. i want to get back into the game, however i'm worried that as a solo player that I wont be able to do the the majority of outdoor content. but you are saying that a red minstrel can indeed go through all of the questing content after moria?
@GusMcGuire
@GusMcGuire Год назад
I have a minstrel and you should be fine with getting through the outdoor content. Post Moria has so much to do. Mounted combat is fun when you get the hang of it (though it's really most relevant in Rohan). There's so much added into the game that we've helped the fellowship achieve their aims and we're now moving into helping to rebuild the world post-Mordor. Many of the epic line quests and epic battles have been given a revamp to better enable single player questing, but there are still plenty of people doing quests at all levels to be able to get someone to help you if you really need it.

in truth any class can destroy solo questing just fine all the way to endgame...your legendary items will just keep getting stronger as you reforge and at some point you'll contemplate soloing group quests even

If this game had a true legacy server mimicking 2007 perfectly I would be all over this. I'm just not a fan of what I became just like retail WOW. Was Dragonflight good? Yeah but getting to 60 was braindead easy. Yeah you have the difficulty slider but I prefer everyone to be on an even playing field.

id like to know your opinion, i want to play something like a paladin, 2 handed dps, that maybe can tank too if i switch trait line, and a class that people demand for doing group content, and for what ive read, this is the captain, im gonna play it anyways cause i love the idea of this character, but want to know in case i create an alter

My one complaint is I like each race being asymmetrical in games, and I'm finding the race/class combos being whitewashed and more generic. It's getting less interesting to me and everything is beginning to feel generic. Also with class updates like you can't spec as Minstrel in one of the colors anymore.

Lotro is the one of the most expensive mmorpgs out there if you're from south america. Even a country with a good currency like Brazil have to pay 5 times the value stated on everything, since you can't pay from steam and they do not regionalize the prices. And i'm against selling questpacks... that's so low... If you can pay 45 brazilian reals in wow, 33 brazilian reals in SWTOR, or 28,99 brazilian reals in ffxiv, i guess there's no way anyone would choose to pay 75 brazilian reals for lotro monthly and even more for the expansions. And, from what i've read on the reddit, you would need at least 100 bucks to get started with all the content unlocked - that's 500 bucks in brazilian reals - its expensive as fuck. 2 triple a released games price. That's why i stay far away from lotro, even now.
