Are you addicted to music as much as I am? Oh boii...I feel you. I've been trying to have more gaps, silence, times of my day without any external input. Usually, thats considered as counter productive, don't you think? Well...who gets to say whats productive and what not? I try to explore that in my life a little bit and this is what this video is about

@@thehumanchris haven't watched the video yet but I just wanted to share my story quick. I have cut back on music A LOT. Im huge into techno and happy hardcore dnbtrancebreaksetcetc. Lots of very energizing music. I have to be careful when I choose to listen to it because it can get me all pumped up and jumpy when I need to, at that time, be chill and relaxed. I only really listen to music before I go workout now.

I’d say I’m not afraid to be alone with my thoughts since I do that when I don’t have music. But I feel rather bored, idk, I love music and basically blasting it through my brains. But I’m not listening to music because I’m scared to be a lone with my thoughts. I see this comment a lot, and I feel like most people aren’t afraid to be alone in silence, but it’s just boring. Rosie ally when you can listen to your favourite music. I mean sometimes I’ll just sit there with no music, maybe not for very long, but I don’t put my headphones on because I can’t be alone by myself. And I also understand that listening to music probably isn’t that good for you tbh. I mean I had like 167,000 minutes in 2020 on Spotify. And it’s been decreasing ever since then to like 55,000 minutes now, which is a huge decrease. -and even then each day I put on a 15 minutes timer on the Spotify sleep timer, so it’s a decent amount less. Anyways, it’s not about being afraid, I think it’s about boredom and usually people being overstimulated, or getting used to being overstimulated.

I looked at the title of the video and thought, "why would someone do that, music is beautiful" but i get it now. I never actually thought about it from this perspective. having a form of media playing during any dull task has become such a habit, it's engraved into me. but you're right. The reason i was so creative and innovative as a child was because i had to fill the silence on my own, i've been asking myself were that spontaneous creativity went over the years now that i'm studying art. I think i figured it out now, thank you :) i'm going to tune into the world more from now on ;p

@@woopazipper The Arabic Oud is played throughout the Islamic world. It also has many derivatives played in the Islamic world. As well, it spread through Asia and Europe as the Lute and has become the forefather of most stringed instruments in the world today. In Spain it became the Vihuela, which led to the Classical and Flamenco guitar. Islam can take credit for spreading stringed instruments around the entire world, but ironically, now Islam forbids music? in islam its taught to us that music can be harmful and bad for the brain i honestly dont rmmbr why but probably bc of the negative words that are in most songs or rather because the vibrations from some instruments are harmful for the brain function, i listen to heavy metal and such an addict to rock, i quit listening to music for 2 weeks approximately and ive noticed actually how creative and mindful i honestly started focusing very well in studying and some more creative ideas just popped up in my head and so on i knew this was probably the impact of quitting music for quite some time although i still listen to some chill songs every now and then cause it just makes me feel good and makes me move my body (ps when my depressing thoughts occur i just listen to some calm quran)

Listening to music also distances you from the remembrance of God and it’s true. I would constantly have lyrics in my head before but that’s pushing me away from the purpose of existence which is to worship God. Now instead I have clearer and more creative thoughts and am in general more grateful about simply existing. I’ve picked up a new hobby which is to listen to Quran and ponder over its translations on RU-vid. 100% wouldn’t be able to experience this if I was still listening to music

Distance you from remembering the god (allah) is not 100% true It depend on the use I heard music for years and I didn't forget allah That's because I'm not using it alot And I don't hear songs that can have bad behaviors I'm still grateful to allah But what I'm trying to say You can't blame a thing that it's your fault with Just like blaming burger that made you fatter Insha allah you understand brother Look the quran is more beautiful But that doesn't mean we have to ban music The music have purposes either (depend on use). It's not because music makes you hate quran, You are just addicted with it Just like video games don't make you pray in time And in the last blaming the video games. Again: I'm not saying this because I want you to get alot with music It's ok it's your choice to not hearing music But I'm saying this because it bothers me that you are blaming a thing that you didn't use it right and the others believe it without notice And have a nice day brother

@@zarellangamer6575 by distancing you from the remembrance of Allah I mean instead of doing istighfar you might start saying lyrics. Yeah that's the good part I did istigfar alot And yeah when ibn qayyim said that It just felt like he said "never do love of showering and love of drinking water" Because ibn qayyim don't know anything about the benefits of hearing music/songs. sadly some elders "شيوخ" is being extermist and blaming the thing instantly instead of know what is it, There was an elder blaming that PUBG is haram His reason of making it haram was "because it makes you play in college" (yes he said something like that). The music/song is different and quran is different either It's just the addiction that made you not reading quran Like video games when you are addicted with You won't pray in time And ameen brother (I'm muslim either) But not being extremist @@Hadithoftheday247

@@user-qv3zt8xo7e I’ve got permanent tinnitus, meaning that it’s always there. Although, I think that this could be a misunderstanding about it, it varies a lot. For example, when I woke up yesterday it was really loud, a lot more than usual. Today, however, it was pretty normal. Another thing about that I don’t think people understand, is that sometimes (pretty randomly), another, higher, louder pitch is added for a few minutes. The best thing about it is that you don’t really have to focus on tuning it out, as if I’m hearing a noise that’s louder than my tinnitus, then I have to focus to notice it. However, in those quiet moments, like trying to sleep or those same quiet drives, it’s pretty noticeable. Protect your ears!

Instead i like to be left alone without any external input and after sometime I get overwhelmed with my own thoughts. I'm going to be 16 and I'm happy that I've realized this much earlier than people do :D

As a musician, I had to watch this and I actually agree with your view. In my case, I make so much music that I started listening less and less to other's music - simply to enjoy the silence every now and then. I don't listen to music on the bus or in the gym and some people say that's crazy. I find it relaxing. Silence is just another form of sound/music if you will.

I had this thought before, i listen music for everything that i do, sometimes the volume isnt up enough for me, even if it damages my ears, when i exercise, cook, do homework, even when trying to sleep, it gives me a boost of energy that when is finished i try it again, almost like im dependent to it to do almost anything. During the mornings i have this feeling of doing things, but when i start listening music and these emotions come up and brings me joy for like 20 or 30 minutes, and then i stop, its like it consumed most of it and leaves me with none.

I'm currently searching for new channels that can inspire me to create moments of time and life like yours and staying away from music was a step for me that's gotten me closer to diving into my creative element. I agree that I at times, must open space for silence and boredom. (Like right now currently typing and hearing nothing but the tapping of my keyboard). The only reason you say Islam sucks, is because everything in this day and age is corrupt. I love music, I always believe that it is what gives my life meaning, especially when i discover new albums all over the world thanks to the help of youtube algorithm, I used to try to fill every menial gap with a song playing in the background, music is a wonderful thing that always lifts me up, I was initially quite taken aback by the video title wondering why someone would stop enjoying such a great medium, after watching your video, I have to agree, silence is a pretty important thing to have especially in the busy modern world, in silence is when my brain is the most active, I get to introspect and organize my own thoughts, I would still listen to music cause its such an important part of my life, but I would not force myself to listen to it 24/7 and leave some time for silence through the day.

I came back to this video months after first watching it to posit something. A problem I and many other Gen Z members have had is losing our love for reading. I personally would regularly read nearly a thousand pages of something per week in middle school. I was almost always reading something new. The process of starting and finishing a lengthy fantasy novel would fill me with an enriching wave of catharsis the moment I flipped the final page. As I got older and started gaining access to shinier forms of entertainment like smartphones, Computers, and game consoles, books started to lose their alure. As I grew to an age when I could spend all my time with screens and music and noise, I forgot books entirely and chose to just do that. For over five years I nearly constantly had some type of noise in the background be it music or a show I've seen a dozen times. I would decide which adult swim cartoon I was gonna put on before I went to bed because I even grew to need it in my sleep. I've somewhat recently been getting back into reading again, this year I've been warming up by reading something I know and love and reading something new in an alternating patten. But for the first few books while I did it I would have Futurama or Family Guy or something playing in the same room. It wouldn't really be much of a distraction, it only very occasionally pulled my attention away from my book. The majority of the attention was still on the book. But there was still something missing, something that I came to miss from the reading experience I remembered as a child. I went to revisit Eragon after reading The Alchemist for the first time. I must have read it half a dozen times in my life, the rest of the series maybe three times. I thought back to how much it influenced 12 year old me, thought about how awesome it felt to first read it when it was the newest, freshest, SHINIEST thing in my life. The writing has been critiqued by many and for decent reason, it's somewhat simple and easy to read and takes common tropes from many existing series. But I think it's great, even if it's technically considered middle school reading level despite the author trying his best to throw in overly big and lesser known words where they don't fit. I thought about WHY it had been so special to me again, and realized it was because at one time it was all I had. I had been struggling to lose myself in a book's world more so than ever simply because all the other things around me were constantly pulling me out. One weekend I hit the power button on my TV and sat down to read in silence. Not since I was forced to as a kid had I ever just read a book in complete silence. For the first time in years I could simply just flow along without it feeling forced. What had grown to become a chore had once again become something fresh and shiny again. I found myself looking forward to when I'll have another few minutes to read Eragon. And when I finished, instead of feeling relieved it was over I wanted to pick up another book. I felt an Intense wave of nostalgia for when I wasn't being bombarded by short term stimulation 24/7. I would compare it to eating a nice meal when you're actually hungry versus after you've been snacking all day. It won't be as enriching of an experience to your mind, it will only serve as extra bloat on the information in your brain. My appetite for mental stimulation has been stoked again, for once in a long time I'm actually hungry for good media off all kinds.

Music addiction is a real thing because it's like a drug, we use it to escape the pressures of our realities instead of facing them. I've realized that music was a huge part in my mental health, not in helping it but making it worse when I thought it was helping because it was serving as an escape for me so now I cut off all that music and just listen to things that bring me peace and a realistic happiness. Been listening to a lot of songs about God lately. There's this song I really like because it's like the artist is having a real talk with God in a sad moment and there's so much hope in it that it actually uplifts me. It's called Where I'm Gonna Be by Mia Rio. She's not a big artist yet but totally worth it.

This video really reminded me of what I was going through a year or two ago, my worst fear was not just my self but my own thoughts. It’s crazy to see how far I’ve come knowing that not even to long ago I couldn’t stand being alone with myself, or my thoughts and now although I have those days every now and then, I can actually take a minute to breathe and clean in complete silence. I’ve been trying to distract myself from the real world lately and I realize I wasn’t able to make art and enjoy it as much when there was something in the background it truly made me lose the feeling of a connection to my art and I lost my interest in art for quite a bit. anyways what I’m trying to say is thank you for making this video I got to reflect a lot in just a few minutes

I would suggest you to quit it slowly rather than all at once, make a tasks list (anything like watching a chunk of tutorial, doing certain number of pushups, buying groceries, washing your socks etc..) and start rewarding yourself with a song after completing these small tasks. Always keep the tasks that you despise the most at the top priority. Use your addiction for your benefit.

And remember, always be true to yourself only. If you lie to yourself a lot and don't fulfill the promises that you make to yourself than you'd always find yourself running away from reality in the form of addiction. It's okay to fall short sometimes, just apologize to yourself and move on.

Aside from being a source of entertainment, one of the major things that drove me to reduce my music listening time or change the kind of music i listen to was the fact that media influences us. In all its subtleties, its beauty, its impressions, and the companionship it renders, there lay its impressions that mostly go unnoticed. They stay and even modulate how our thought process works, or what we think about at all. All that for subsiding loneliness, it rather heightens a lot of other emotions unnecessarily at times. As for me, who believes in greater control on what I'm doing and thinking about so as to enhance my productivity, my thoughts play a major role. I'd rather be cerebral mostly than being swept by emotions. What we consume does have lasting effects, not only affecting our mood but also us as a person, dictating my way in life, which comes off as manipulative to me. Not all are self-aware to understand why media is just not ideal for excessive consumption, so I'm glad that folks like you bring content like this forward. It does make a difference, I just hope people listen to themselves and what's good for them more than relying on their habits driven by the masses.

In Islam, listening to music is haram "not allowed", I've been always see a negative effect on us as humans. I just know that Allah who create us knows very well what is good for us as a human or on the whole society.

Music that will cause unnecessary sadness and tear the soul apart is haram. Music that instills life energy and encourages beauty is halal.
@HabibaAyman-jy8lv

No both of them are haram and you can search about this and there where a hadith talking about this. In my opinion, energy and positive music as you said it just makes us happy for moments and then you back to reality and back to everything. you can get this by listening or reading a quran, it makes everything peaceful and makes sense. or doing sports. so you'll start to feel the real life and find stuff that really makes you happy and not haram or damage your mental health by the time. anyways, my opinion is not important when it comes to halal or haram we just try as we can to follow Allah’s commands and avoiding His prohibitions and ask him to help us doing this. @@brawlerpro5829

@brawlerpro5829 If you insist on doing something haram, do it yourself without lying to others and claiming it is OK to do it. The prophet peace be upon him said in an authentic hadith "From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful." [Sahih Al-Bukhari].

No matter we'd like to think that it is us who control our time, i think with a little self-observation we can notice that we're just getting bombarded by so many things that we can't even find time to process. For me letting silence take over the little gaps i have in my life such as morning walks, showering etc. give me the feeling of control in my own life and this makes me feel one step closer to realizing myself. Great content, great message and great editing. Loved it!

I’m 100% sure that somethung or someone guided me to this video. I’ve been questioning whether it’s bad that I listen to music 24/7 or watching childhood movies/shows. After watching this video, I realized that I’m doing those things 24/7 because I don’t want to think about my problems/feel bored. Thank you so much for this video! Subscribed ☺💕

Music is haram (forbidden) in Islam subhanAllah because it harden the heart from the remembrance of Allah. Al hamdulilah

It's not making your heart harder Or making you forget allah (depend on use) It's the addiction (it mean it was your fault for leading this addiction to yourself) And sadly they distort the "because it harden your heart" They don't know the purposes of the music They don't know something called "difference" And there is no obvious clue that music/songs is forbidden The "لهو الحديث" wasn't talking about the singing It was talking about it in general If it talked about it It could make an obvious clue about it, And the part of hadith were messanger of god (رسول الله ﷺ) said "يستحلون الخمر والحر والحرير والمعازف" They understanded it wrong It mean't a place like disco Not in general If he actually meaned it in general The medical sterilizer is haram (forbidden) Because it contain alchoholic resources And perfume is haram either Because it contains vintage So brother Please don't complain something you are not sure with Because distortion the islam is 100% haram Edit: another point When you play video game and addicted to it and then forgot to pray in time Will you blame the video game Or yourself ? Please think twice brother And have a nice day brother

As a Muslim, Islam forbids listening to songs that contain music and contain bad lyrics because they only distract the heart. They control our feelings freely. If you listen to a sad song, you suddenly start thinking about all the bad events that happened to you in your life. Then you listen to an enthusiastic song and feel that you are full of energy and you will accomplish everything you have. Now, then you listen to meaningless songs that only contain insults or bad scenes, and I don’t know why they listen to them. Actually, everything that Islam forbids is harmful. It is forbidden for us to eat pork. There are many studies that have proven that it is actually bad. How can I eat the meat of an animal that feeds on waste, and also Alcohol is forbidden. It only kills the mind. How many accidents or misfortunes happen just because a person was not conscious. Islam also forbids suicide. It also forbids adultery and touching the opposite sex or mingling with them. Tattooing is also forbidden. Why would I change the way my Lord created me when He created me already beautiful? And why would I distort my beautiful body? I feel... Truly proud and grateful to be a Muslim. I know that I was created to worship God and build this earth and make it better, not just for the sake of fooling around and harming myself and others.

I relate a lot with this idea. I'm constantly surrounded by music even when it's not me who's playing it. So, any second there is pure natural silence, I feel relaxed. I bring this up among my peers and since they are very foreign to this, I often come off as weird. But it's glad to see a lot of us resonate with it. And the cinematography and writing on this is absolutely commendable. Loved this video.

Oh, praise be to God.. In my Islamic religion, God tells us and commands us not to listen to music because He is our Creator, so He knows that music is harmful to the heart and gives a beautiful feeling temporarily, then the effect of drugs disappears, and this will cause real fatigue... Oh, thank God for the blessing of Islam. God commands us to listen to the Qur’an and understand it. It calms the human soul and reassures the heart. It is truly special. I recommend this clip to you. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zbse_7rMJnk.htmlsi=TDK4YbeDT-7nWnWY

I love your videos oh my goodness. I am still a kid in high school so there is a lot of pressure on me and it is really a struggle to take any time to just exist without feeling guilty, but I know it would be so much better if I could. I have music in my ears all the time but I remember when I was a child I would 'do nothing' quite a lot, free of music or any other media; I was very much the head-in-the-clouds type. I wrote poems and stories and drew a lot because back then I didn't yet know the constant overhanging pressure to be productive and I had infinite time and inspiration and didn't have to justify taking time to do things I wanted to do that would not get any external validation. I also have ADHD which makes this pressure to be productive extra crushing because so often I try so hard and still can't make expectations I have for myself as informed by neurotypical standards. Anyway, I love your videos, I definitely feel like I am on the right side of youtube now because although I was procrastinating watching this video, it didn't feel like a waste of time at all :)

In fact, in Islam, listening to music is forbidden, and the details of this matter have not been delved into. Many Muslims or people of other religions have always wondered why this matter exists, even though we have preconceptions about the matter, such as that it causes a lack of concentration, and the abundance of songs causes depression, and also the bad emptiness when you finish from Hearing a good song, you search for more and more. Also, most of the songs contain bad, obscene and addictive lyrics. We have a rule, which is that nothing is forbidden without a reason, and everything that is forbidden is harmful to us. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We must really stop living our lives with music. We enjoy natural sounds

"the details of this matter have not been delved into"- No, plenty of people thought about that already, and it's easy to understand that's because music takes away muslims' time/attention to submit to their god. 5 pray sessions a day, what else ... Anyway, if humans were born just to do exactly the same thing, we aren't much different from chickens: bred, fed, grown up, then die lol

I’m a muslim too and i do my best to become better each day. Although i do believe not all music or songs are forbidden. I used to play the piano as a teenager and it gave me so much joy and confidence, and i used to recite the quraan in a mosque on a weekly basis, there was once this open questions discussions for the teachers and i asked them about music, they told me it matters “ which type” and it’s impact on me and those around me. I do agree with you that many songs have bad lyrics with cursing and body description, and promoting a bad influence in general specially genres like rap and r’n b. But others, have sensational instrumental solos, deep retrospective words, and a piece of art that gives you good feelings, lift your mood, and can even put you “ spiritually “ in a better position. I believe spending more time listening, reading quraan and praying is the best thing to do with our time. But sometimes it’s hard not to admit the beauty of human art embodied in music. I’m a visual artist myself and work as a video games artist, and i believe good art can make people feel and live better, and create strong connections and memories, let alone the effect of music on people with dementia.. at the end i respect your comment and salute you for speaking and promoting the goodness in our beautiful Islam 😊

Thank you for your video. I may not completely stop listening to music, but I have stopped listening to podcast for almost 4 years now after a severe burnout. I felt too overwhelmed to get even a few more advice/self-improvement hacks or whatsoever. It took me months and years to fully recovered and I became more concious of what I consume... yes, I mean all content I consume, books, texts, knowlege-related media, music, movies, series, etc... I realized that learning by ears is not my thing, and listening to podcast does not help me at all. These days I enjoy to read and if I want to get deeper on something, I just buy a course and deep dive into the topic. I may not listen to music all the time like I did in the past, but I now know when to stay in silence and when to use the benefits of the sound. The music is nice and the silence is beautiful too as it gives space and opportunity to listen to ourselves more clearly.

I love music. But lately going to college five days a week and receiving so much sensory input all day, nonstop input becomes overwhelming (especially as someone with sensory sensitivity). Filling the silence with music, podcasts, or audiobooks made me feel even more on edge and drained. I don’t listen to music when I commute anymore (2+ hours daily). By modern standards, that seems like lost time. But by the end of the ride I’ve watched so many people go to work and take their kids to school. I’ve overheard so many conversations. I notice how the sky and the trees change day by day. I’ve had seven different conversations with myself about things that no longer worry me, that I was once stuck on, new desires I want to fulfill, everything and anything. I love letting my mind wander and have no agenda. And I especially love giving that time back to myself and only myself.

Love this, I started doing this, going out do my daily days chores without headphones on, sitting in the underground train or a public area without my escape. Because I realized for me listening to something is also a method for me to feel safe and secure. And also the feeling of being overwhelmed with new sounds and information through podcasts, music and so on. Yesterday I had a situation where I received a message that was uncomfortable and my first urge was it to put on my headphones and listening to something to not feel that emotion. I realised I did this so often, the moment I feel uncomfortable and don't Wana think about something I distract myself instead of solving it within my self and really allowing all my feelings and thoughts. And also the loss of the beauty that is around me through noise, people talking, animal sounds, traffic sounds, crying/laughing babies, street art/music. Random people talking to me. All of this beauty I missed every day. I try to corporate that into my daily routines. After that listening to music feels much more special and I can really enjoy my TV shows and RU-vid videos. It thought me so much going into the world without distraction. I realised that I started singing sometimes or even talking to my self haha. I really enjoy and appreciate my own company more though this "exercise". I realised I did all of this constant listening to entertainment also as a way of not being with myself fully, it was a thing to fill my feeling of loneliness but I actually feel less lonely since I started more connected to myself and the outer world.❤ For me this is a journey to self-love and self appreciation, being really in the moment with my self and embracing feelings like loneliness and anxiety instead of pushing them away with distractions and learning to really appreciate the entertainment as a whole the music the podcasts...
