Why I Stopped Listening to "Secular" Music. 

Amen my daughter, Christian music is meaningful, it builds you up, while secular music is empty and devoid of any meaningful/constructive message.

Amen, girl. I'm 59. I gave up secular music last year, after 40 years of atheism. I don't miss it AT ALL. ALL secular music is simply awful. I'm embarrassed I used to listen to it.

Just wanna share this one, As I was working on the kitchen a while ago. I don't know who did but a secular music started playing which is Michael Jackson's and in my mind I said, oh no Lord a secular music is being played inside the house and my nephew is singing along with it please make it stop, and then I said with my mouth Jesus please make it Stop, and in an instant it stopped like suddenly it was quiet! I was so amazed!

Amen sister! Music has a discpleship power and aspect that I believe some people don't often talk about. When the HS was working in my heart before I came to Jesus, the first thing He gave me the discernement was around music. I wasn't listening to anything that we may automatically judge as profane (sex songs, heartbreak music etc.), and I stopped immediately. Now, when I'm out and listen to secular music playing on the stores for ex, I always get this feeling of like "this people just keep saying all of these words and it has no meaning". The LORD is faithful and kind with His childrens. May we rest upon His grace 💖🌄

Lovely. I appreciate your honesty in exposing this topic. So many people believe that, we as Christians, drop these old habits because they were somehow "mandated" by a Pastor or a Church when what actually happens is that God opens our eyes and ears. "Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23". I stopped listening to secular music for most of the reasons you listed but specially because we our using our mouth confessing lyrics that are mostly void and about anti-Christian values. I'm really locked into christian/worship music. I always Have to radio tuned into a christian station in the car and whenever I drive. I used to listen so much secular music as personal, But I choose to listen to worship music as personal. The problem with secular music is that The lyrics are nasty and dirty, such as explicit.

Good and needful message. Music is a Ministry for good or for evil. Being attuned to the Holy Spirit helps young people as well as older people to be aware of the difference. Lyrics tell a lot, but also the beat of the music. There is another component as well ~ unholy musicians/singers. Enjoyed this very important message. It's just a matter of perception, I agree about your point on "mainstream pop music" at 2:54 - 3:03 an on the fact that worship music can "fill the room", but not everything, like for example most Christian rap is just rap with Christian lyrics, or Hillsong Young And Free is just Image Dragons with Christian lyrics. I would say that I had a bit opposite experience as yours, I've been 10 years active in various pentecostal churches and for three years (2016 - 2018 ) I hadn't gone to a concert. After I restarted to go to concerts in 2019 I felt really liberated after experiencing all that gaslighting. And by the way I am a busker Not all the secular music is empty as all those radio (s)hits.
