To solve your paper size problem in Onenote go to "View" > "Paper size" > and from the dropdown where it says "auto" select "A4" This will ensure your page is sized to A4. If you then go beneath it "Save current page as template" then all new pages you add in that section of that notebook will be A4 :)

I am specifically using Goodnotes to make handwritten notes and not needing to carry around tons of books or printouts. Yes as an EE student i do quite a bit of coding. But the code lives inside project folders of the IDE on my laptop, only code samples or examples get mostly handwritten into goodnotes. I don’t want to type my notes, for one, I’m to slow and it’s way less stressful. Some of my profs don’t even allow typed notes because it’s too distracting in small classes (~20-30 people). And with AirDrop and a Mac it’s no challenge at all to get a picture to goodnotes. You literally just have to command+c on the Mac and paste inside goodnotes, done.

Goodnotes has been doing a lot of upgrades lately; it launched a Goodnotes app for windows laptops that you can share your ipad notes with, and you can edit your notebooks at the same time on your laptop like Onenote does. I find the text tool on the laptop Goodnotes app up to par with Onenote's text tool, and you can copy and paste images or screenshots into Goodnotes smoothly. I'd say the only thing Goodnotes hasn't caught up on with Onenote is it's embedded file tool, where in Onenote you can insert a PDF file and you can write directly on the file page as well as beside it due to the endless pages (makes me feel less anxious about running out of space, BUT Goodnote's sitcky note feature does help overcome this. While Onenote also has a supreme organization of notes (notebook, section, pages), Goodnotes makes up for this by its outline feature that can help you jump from different sections of your notebook you assign (Just not available on the laptop companion app). Also, being able to easily switch between notebooks with tabs in Goodnotes helps too.

I used to take notes with OneNote, but it didn't worked out for me... My biggest issue is that when you add PDf with 40+ slides the document got so freaking long and to find any specific slide was ao bad... also there was no printing option or any guide lines to stay with in a certain format like A4, etc... It really bothered me, so I switched to good notes... If Microsoft would add a page option instead of the endless pages and a overview option of the pages in on notebook to easily find pages, it is/would be an amazing program... but so far nothing has changed in OneNote within the last 3 years... Goodnotes for Windows or Android Tablets would be amazing as well tho. Both are amazing, but have also their weak points, I guess you have to decide on which weak point is less effecting you...

Since watching the first time I’ve been using OneNote for a year… and now I’m changing to GoodNotes. OneNote worked very well for a while but the long loading time both in my iPad and computer was really annoying, for example just opening OneNote on my computer was really slow and the synchronisation would not be immediate and sometimes would not work at all. Also, when marking big sections of notes it would be very slow at loading which just gets on my nerves. But the thing that made me switch was when I tried to save my notes to PDFs and 1) it was very slow 2) the quality was bad and 3) it ruined one of my notebooks. I cannot get in to those notes and I’m so scared of it happening again. So GoodNotes it is! For context I mainly use handwritten notes and annotations.

this video is very specific to the stem experience lol I'm a humanities major so I've never worked with data or slides--just readings and notes from discussion. i think everyone should just use what works for them

It really depends on how you use it. My courses include a lot R and Python and other programs coding and slides. But what I did is I either turn R into RMarkdown and export it out as pdf or just export the script into pdf, use it in Goodnotes, then run the code and copy and paste the result to my pdf code in Goodnotes. It definitely takes more time but more convenient and works better for me than Onenotes. I still use Onenotes but only for something typing heavy like preparing an essay layout

Omg finally someone who uses goodnotes for coding!! 😭 I have been struggling to find a good note taking app for computer studies and coding (Tbh confused between notability and goodnotes).But, just couldn't decide properly!! Your comment helped me to add a pointer to goodnotes. I am still confused tho.
@dectwentythird

@@dishuuu112 For coding, they are not too different for me! My method only requires the app to be able to copy/paste image easily onto pdf, which they both are especially if you have an Apple ecosystem. Besides that, you can just treat them like any other pdf note taking apps and decide. I personally find goodnotes to write and edit on pdf easier and nicer than notability. Plus its organization system is less confusing than notability. So you can watch some comparison videos and decide further on what fits your needs more. The coding aspect will work for both; you just need to be creative with it!

I used last year (im studying mechanical engineering) OneNote, i had some dislikes about the app, i couldn't get used to the infinite workspace, i do lots of handwriting, and in OneNote it didn't feel good for me, or at least not as good as in goodnotes. I Started this year with goodnotes, and i am used to change from keyboard to handwriting fast and the notes are pretty as hell. Also, in goodnotes for being an standard size pages, and having better handwriting, i will be selling my notes

Hey Chloe really amazing video! I've had the cut-off situation happen with one note and it happens with my Mac computer but it doesn't happen with my computer that uses a Windows operating system. I've only had good experiences exporting my notes from OneNote on a Windows based computer.

OneNote user here! I bought an android tablet (tab s5e) and they gifted me the original keyboard cover so I've been using OneNote to type down notes during or after lessons. It's amazing to view the lesson on one side and take notes at the same time on the other side with the split screen function. Only thing I don't like about OneNote is that it has an horizontal infinite page. I wish the horizontal was fix but you could still scroll vertically forever...

I don't think anyone relies on Goodnotes solely that I know of, moreso a combo of Goodnotes for handwritten notes and annotations and Onenote/Word for typed notes or any types of typed work.

In my courses (I study Geography) we get all the powerpoint files (and in some courses even a Summary) where most information we need is on. So the only thing I need to do, is mark some things, highlight some slides and write some additional things on the Slides and for that GoodNotes is still the best I‘ve tried. The only thing I‘m not that happy with, are the geometry features. Maybe a ruler, more options to edit the lines after they were created and the possibility to create lines that are curved in multiple directions would be nice.

I bought an iPad and Goodnotes after seeing tons of note-taking videos on RU-vid, but when I started to use them to take notes, it felt very awkward. Goodnotes is still a wonderful tool, especially for those who have Mac, iPad, and iPhone because they can automatically sync between those devices, but for a Window user and a typer like me, it is so inconvenient. I use Notion to write things down on my laptop and now, after I take a note with Goodnotes, I have to screenshot it, download the picture, then upload it to my Notion :)) Still, Goodnotes is a very good app and every student with an iPad should have it. Goodnotes is coming to Windows real soon so I hope that it can be a game-changer for me

Good point. but be warned it automatically Syncs between ipad and laptop...until it doesn't. i switched off my device before it had synced resulting in a conflict and my huge document that I cut and pasted from other onenote docs was wiped. It's also annoying how each text entry is in a box.
