I've put over 3500 miles on my Propella 7s, and I bought it last year specifically for many of the reasons you list here. I wanted a commuter bike that would just give me a little extra help for hauling gear or going up the hill heading home. The other benefit to this light bike is that when I've run out of battery, it's still light enough so that I can easily ride it to where I'm going. The battery and boost are nice, but I'm not dead on the pavement if it gives out. The downsides are no integrated lights, the mechanical disc brakes aren't the best in the long run, and this drivetrain lends itself to dropping off the chain ring. I added a chain guard which solved the chain drop problem. But those negatives are minimal compared to the price/performance of this bike. Plus, the Propella customer support is amazing.
Thanks for the comment! Great to hear from someone that’s been riding their’s for so long. I’ve only been riding mine for a couple of months and I took it to a shop right after I assembled it to get the gears and brakes adjusted so it’s been riding like a dream so far. I’ll definitely do an update in a few months for a proper review.
I’ve had mine for sometime. On most of my ride “20 mile “ I mostly ride without the battery. As you said it does come in handy for this hills. You don’t feel like climbing, but you can using the gears.
I know nothing about electric bikes. I know nothing about regular bikes. But very informative vid. Mostly I'm just here to boost engagement for Logan. Good luck man.
I rode my Propella 7s today for the first time. I did 20 miles with plenty of battery left and I went up some pretty big hills. Overall, I am happy with it so far. I may get a suspension seat post. I got it on sale for Black Friday at $1000.
Hi Logan, nice first video. I my wife and I have Riese & Muller Neon, and we love them. We live in a area with a lot of hills so commuting to the store or work we do need the extra power, We also have a nice RTT with is about 30 miles one way and we ride that a lot so we need a bike that can do light trails. The one thing that bothers me is when they talk about speed and the class rating on bikes, our average speed is about 14 to 17 MPH and when we ride the trails we average about 12 to 15. In order to get up to 28 mph with NO-Throttle e_bike We need to really work at it. The whole thing about speed and how fast your ebike can go bothers me. We get passed all the time when riding RTT by traditional bike riders.. And I ament they are moving at a good clip. Just because they are not on a ebike does that make it ok? NO, its just like a car whether your have a v8 mustang or a Toyota Prius there are speed limits. Why do they want to look at E-bikes differently. Here where I live it it technically not leage to ride a bike not the side walk.
This is great! I need a good e-bike so this is handy because I didn't know about these lightweight electric bikes (I'm only familiar with the heavy brands).
The reason that is feel hesitant about the propella is because of the specialty battery. What happen in 5 years and the company goes out of business or discontinued that model? What do you do for battery then? I think your points were good and have me food for thought. I bike like a grandma and an happy with that. But I need a bike that will take me to work on those situations where I don't have my car
$1300. I'm so glad that I bought the ancheer version back in 19. It was only $640 delivered. (that's 8% inflation for you!) Mine has held up very well. Granted I own a full set of bicycle tools. Worst failure was two years ago when the battery failed. I ride a lot of rough trails and the excess vibration broke a nickel bonding strip. A couple of hours of browsing RU-vid and employing a solder iron and a replacement strip of nickel and I was good to go again. ($20 and couple hours of labor)
I almost bought a fat tired bike, while cringing at the 62 lb weight. I needed something to pull some pretty serious hills. Is there a more powerful compromise in the lighter e bike world you could recommend? I don't think this one will pull my hills.
Hey Logan! I really enjoy your reviews. It seems like you get a lot of bikes sent to you for free, what do you do with the extra ebikes you don't use? Do you sell them at a discount? Because I'd love to buy one from you if possible! I live in Socal also so not far. Thanks!
Thank you! I actually have had to return many of the bikes I’ve reviewed and still have the ones I didn’t so I can use them for comparison in future videos. As the channel continues to grow I may start doing giveaways if I begin running out of space so make sure you subscribe. :)
"Most riders?" Nah, that bike is waaaay under spec'd and over priced. Most riders are looking to upgrade, bigger controller, bigger motor, bigger battery and to go faster. You take 5 people, offer them a Rad Mission or the 7S. Four out of that 5 will take a Mission all day. The 7S is a good fit for UK riders. In the US, its a yawn.
