Why I Use A Kemper 

Hi Phil, I get good information here. I may not need it, but it’s always good information.

The credibility of this channel is second to none. Phil could tell me to buy the worst possible piece of gear and I would! The thing is he would never do that. Anything I’ve purchased on his recommendation has been exactly what he promised it would be. The musicians community is lucky to have a guy like Phil.

Nice speakers, sounded excellent in my Studio Headphones. The diagrams on the back of the speaker cabinet is such a smart solution, simple and gets the job done.

Bit disappointed you spent more time talking about pictures on the back of the speakers rather than the Kemper itself and why you chose it over other digital devices, favourite profiles etc. Would be great to see a dedicated Kemper video from you. Many thanks

Heya Phil-I have really enjoyed your practical/budget behind the scenes rig setups. I run (White) LP-6s on those same stands from Sweetwater. I would recommend you look at the foam Auralex Isolation Pads to go underneath your Kali's. They Isolate the base response, but they also kind of stick the Monitors more steadily in place. The auralex are also angled wedges that you can use to tilt the Kali's more towards your ears when you fly them higher in the room. Finally, they weren't too spendy. Thanks again, Phil.

I use emulation software into my studio monitors, with 2 different preset for a strat and 335. I live in an apartment, so with some tweaking I can get a full sound at lower volume with lots of headroom for effects. Also cab IR's makes the biggest difference, so you dont want to skip over this step, if you thinking about going this route.

I got the Kali LP-6 for my bedroom studio - very happy with them!!

Basically what I run 90% of the time, I have a Helix LT into stereo 8" monitors.

These are great! For a variety of reasons, many folks want to get real sound out across various media. As usual, your down-to-earth style and digestible format opens the door and provides a glimpse for bedroom hobbyists to get quality sound, preserve it and share it. Thanks for taking the time.

Powered monitors are an interesting alternative to FRFR amps (e.g. Friedman ASC12) for home and studio. I wonder how the tone compares to such a dedicated guitar modelling setup.

Do you use any amp switchers to connect your heads and cabs without having to rewire them each time you want a different combination?

I have a set of Kali lp6s but I much prefer my Helix through a 112 Harley Benton FRFR I bought, for like 180 quid. Funny how disperate things that you wouldn't really think of, just work great, for no reason other than they just do. God...my rock sound is just awesome through it. I love it so.

I'm keeping my Les Paul monitors... they just look too cool to let go... for now anyways! I don’t think I will ever get used to the idea of my guitar sound coming out of studio monitors as opposed to a cab. A stage monitor or FRFR I probably could get used to. And it is a 100% irrational thing.

? So in other videos, you'd mentioned that you use the Spark as your practice amp. How often/what situations do you use this setup vs. the Spark?

I saw those stands and wondered how they were? In the past I had problems with on-stage gear. The guitar stands were very poorly made, and flimsy. I didn't trust them to hang my guitars on, and replaced them. I had 2 mic stands that were poorly made also. You can really tell when your up close, they move a lot and vibrate. Good Will has them now 8) I'm also on my second set of M-Audio monitors, I upgraded from 4" to 8". They sit on multi-density foam wedge pads on my desk, and are run by my DAW. I'm sure there are a lot of good ones out there, the M-Audio sound to me as good/or better than any of them. Always looking for the carrot on the stick though, the GAS thing. LOL JMHO 8) --gary

I was a professional live audio engineer for 25 years. Mostly in the country industry but i have worked with a lot of other acts also while working for a sound company part time. I could have never imagined doing anything through less than a 12 inch speaker as far as being a guitarist goes or as far as on on stage audio monitor. Of course we have in ears now but that a very slow progression and people are reluctant change and when they do change they still want the wedge / stage monitor for a crutch. that normally goes away after at least 6 months and normally a couple of years. Technology really has come a long way. I'm not sure i would like anything shy of a 12 inch speaker for my guitar amp but after using and hearing the QSC K 10 speaker / monitors several years ago it really changed my mind and also my back. lol Those monitors sound great with your guitar.

Have you ever used any Line 6 modeling units for the same thing as the Kemper Profiler, Mr. Mcknight? Before I wound up getting an ME-80 pedalboard, my temptation was for the Line 6 Firehawk.

Isn't the Kemper a powered out? Or does it also have a line out?

It’s great for gigs and studio work but no way is any modeler or profiler anything thing close to the sound and feel of a real nice tube amp and great pedal.

Hi Phil, an idea for demos: I'd eliminate all variables when demoing the sound of a guitar. I (and probably the majority of us) don't have a dirty shirley or any of your amps, and pedals. But most of us has an audio interface and plugins. I'd pick one piece of software (bias fx, amplitube, an archetype plugin, whatever you preferr), and create a few presets (clean, dirty, high-gain) with flat EQ and no effects. I'd keep the presets mostly constant between vids. I'd share the presets, and the dry signal coming in from the interface. This way many variables are eliminated, sounds are reproducible and comparable to guitars we already have. Just an idea :)
