I used to be stuck at rehabbing with 500mL water bottle after neglecting my elbow for 7 years. Got to where I couldn't open doors without pain or sleep without ibuprofen. I'm closing in on a 3 plate bench now. There are rehab methodologies that encourage replacing of scar tissue with parallel aligns collagen (functional tendon). I used to do 1x30 with a 10sec ecc and a 3-5sec concentric with super light weight

Thanks for sharing this. While I wouldn't consider injury "normal", I do think that a huge majority of **really** serious lifters will, at some point, pick up an issue that takes more than a few months to resolve. The only real way to avoid it in most cases is to perform wishy-washy training that just isn't effective. I've seen people injury shamed before, or made to seem like they were a bad coach or content creator for having an injury issue. That's a pretty ridiculous take but some people actually think that way. The reinjuring thing is the worst, especially when there doesn't seem to be a clear trend in what causes it. I think I reinjured my QL about 10 times over 10 months with 10 different exercises, but ultimately I learned a lot from the experience and grew from it.

I have been dealing with some annoying injuries as well.. Started bouldering and being 230lbs just takes a toll. My rotator cuffs started acting up, elbow tendonitis, biceps got inflamed. I simply had to stop, just before I stopped I got some shoulder pain which has haunted me for a year. Turns out it was a proximal bicep issue and not a shoulder issue. I have finally reached a point where I seem to be able to do pull and push without pain or aggravating something. Time for us to get big Omar!

This is really beneficial for the fitness community to see. Too many people are not honest with how being natty works. The standard move for an influencer is to use steroids when the gains stall, claim natty, and preach to natties how to get out of stalled gains for views/$$$. It's just a reality. Train all you want for decades and decades, if you ain't got the genetics, you ain't gonna look like you're on steroids. You're gonna look natty and there's nothing wrong with that. After 15 years of lifting consistently, I look for gains after a full year and I recognize that I'm probably the only one that can notice them. Look up career fitness youtubers and see what they look like now and 10+ years ago, a lot of them look pretty much the same if not regressed with situations like Omar's explaining here. The expectations need to drop for natties. Keep lifting to age better and continue this wonderful hobby. You've gotta shift the focus off the gains or you'll end up with an ass full of steroids or mentally debilitating body dysmorphia.

We all come to these realizations at some point, whether we like it or not. Once I hit 40, when I had aches and pains after years of training for size and strength, I stopped fighting my body in the interest of growth so much, lowered the weight, and did more reps of pretty much everything. We lifting people often think that hitting higher numbers will make us happy, but now training for reps, a good pump, and just for the sake of it have become surprisingly enjoyable and far less achy. Good luck on your journey.

Lets discuss the fallacy of unbounded continuous improvement. Everyone will have the final peak at some point, but nobody talks about it. Have some real talk about when optimizing all aspects of training and lifestyle yield the smallest or no marginal gains. How do we know when we get there and, where do we go from there. Do you grind out for nearly 0 improvement, maintain, shift goals or change modalities completely?

Priorities change in your late 20's, the gym has been taking a back seat to other goals for me lately as well. Had a lower back thing flare up about 6 months back, along with knee pain that at one point was so bad I couldn't do any sort of squat variation whatsoever. The thing that's been getting me back into being serious about lifting is discovering new ways to train, trying out different styles of training that I used to write off or think I knew better. I read the short essay "Developing Physical Strength" by Bob Peoples (deadlifted 725lbs Naturally in the 1940's at age 40!), he inspired me to start doing back work as a warm-up for every single workout (rather than the stair climber). I'm going to double my back training volume and see how it goes. Cheers Omar!

I'm on a similar path as you as well. This week I'm deloading, it was from a weird tweak of my wrist from getting up. Any bodyweight pressure felt uncomfortable for 2 days. For the 5 weeks prior I went hard af and honestly quite glad I did. I've been pondering quite a bit of where to change selection and such. I've landed to fewer compound movements on the first 4-5 weeks at a lower weight on some exercise selection, and last week (maybe two if body can do it) going full throttle until form failure, then deload. Going to see how that works on this period and the following and reasses. Thanks so much on your insight and how your progress is regarding all physical and mental states. It's quite validating to have these videos being uploaded. Appreciate your content and all the work you've been doing.

Definitely tweaked my elbows a bit (probably shoulders too if I'm being honest) doing martial arts a while back. Arm bars, shoulder throws, definitely the striking work too. After a few years of working on those areas in the gym, I definitely feel better. The worst injury was tweaking my shoulder after hitting a tree mountain biking. Light hit but still caused a pretty bad instability (couldn't even do a pushup or hold myself in a plank). Thankfully rehab and strengthening everything around the shoulder helped massively. That was really the kick in the butt to get me back in the gym seriously. Strengthen everything around your joints and treat them with the respect they deserve! Wish you the best in fixing your elbow, can't way to see a hypertrophy arc. BOM is a cool dude! 💪

I also had an acute injury to my elbow that, a few reconstructive surgeries later, resulted in a noticeably lower range of motion in that elbow (It doesn't straighten or flex all the way). I can train any lift I want. Obviously every injury is different but a little loss in elbow range of motion isn't the end of the world. If Omar's life has settled into a place that allows good training, I could definitely see him still hitting a bunch of PR's.

Been having knee pain since 2018. Had to do a ton of mobility work from Kelly Starret's book, the Supple leopard, and did a lot of leg training in the last few years. I am about 99% back to normal with my legs, I am building up my stress tolerance of my once painful tendon/knee again. There is still lots of work to be done in terms of muscle imbalances (uneven overhead press, pullup, bench) but what was the worst has passed. It drove me crazy knowing I was once in the top and fell so badly To anyone struggling, keep going, expect miracles but work for them like crazy.
