I Don’t agree . Trek supercaliber 9.9 is the best . The road can prove it. Try every bikes , don’t watch pictures. watching bike pictures is not an enough proof . Trying the bikes is the best proof .
When you see the high resale value of the bike you know it’s a good bike. Just picked up 1st gen custom built Project One Supercaliber locally for $5k. Main selling point for me was the Kovee XXX wheelset. Other components were mediocre but still felt much faster than other bikes I’ve ridden in the past that weighed far less. The bike is so responsive and the handling is amazing.
You cannot compare KTM to Trek carbon, Trek uses rigid internal EPS moulds to prevent wrinkles, resin pooling and optimum compaction and a custom propriety nano resin with a low mod and hi mod carbon mix - they have a massive budget with lifetime warranty. KTM on the other hand simply use the cheap bladder method with only hi mod volatile carbon, I've seen inside their broken frames, it's a mess!. You're too obsessed with weight, Trek went for durability and a little extra weight for the Supercaliber - it hasn't stopped Evie Richards from winning short course events in the World Cup, even Nino doesn't use the Spark 900 SL frame, he uses the HMX frame
U must be joking, u cant review a bike from their website. Ride it! Test it! Its amazing! Ive had Scale, Spark, Epic, Top Fuel, Procaliber, and this season the supercaliber. I world recommend it all time high! Picking up 2021 Supercaliber within days!
@@letsallgetalong5499 It's a fantastic bike, you can get the 2020 XT version for £4800 in the UK with Bontrager Pro wheels and parts, and you get a lifetime warranty
I think i agree on SB’s point. You either want the directness /lightness/ simplicity of a HT, or the compliance of a 100mm FS. This is neither fish nor fowl.
What are you talking about? Supercaliber is the bike used by athletes who won multiple World Cup championships and XCOs... No doubt that top-notch specs are expensive, but they cost roughly the same as what you can get buying ultimate specs from well-known brands. For casual riders, you can the SAME Supercaliber frame with entry+ level spec - NX groupset, MT500 brakes, and Reba suspension fork that in total give $ 4500-5000.
The benefit of the bike is its efficiency with no rockers/linkages it is more inline with the efficiency of a hardtail with little lateral movement. It is not trying to gain a hardtails weight advantage more trying to get increased pedalling efficiency with some of the benefits of the an FS bike. Obviously a lot comes down to the riders but the fact that you have WC wins on the 120 travel Scale & wins in the 60mm Supercaliber on the same courses shows there is more than one way to design a winning bike.
appreciate the attempt at a neutral comparison... I think you missed a bit though - the Scott is equivalent on specs/costs; when looking at the KTM the bike isn't equipped with AXS, so of course the cost will be much less... the SuperCal 9.9 is still 20lbs and mechanical... still, you provided your opinion, all good, sharing my thoughts.
Just because it weighs more than some bikes, it is way more efficient I have ridden lighter xc bikes but the supercalliber is faster and more efficient, also when you lock it out it is just as stiff as a hardtail it’s amazing
This bike is a spaceship. I would ride it before you listen to this advice. The Supercal 9.7 is perfect and wont cost you 11K. Rides insaenly fast, feels like an E-Bike to me after hopping off my Slash to this super light rig.
Agreed. I recently picked up custom Project One & the handling is amazing. You can save a lot by getting 9.7 & slap on some quality Carbon hoops. At right around $5k you can have a killer XC bike!
Don’t ride a supercal (I ride a scalpel) but the whole thing with the weird shock is not only to save weight but to keep the pedal strokes more efficient so it can almost “pedal like a hardtail”
question is "is 60 mm enough for cross country?" I'm stuck between the Top Fuel 9.8 vs the Super caliber 9.7. where I live we have no crazy mountains for crazy decents but twisty technical courses. Hmmmmm????
You will be very happy with Top Fuel. Supercaliber is good, but I would not purchase first generation of the new "thing". Top Fuel is trail oriented xc and you can modify it to be perfect xc. And if you are not competing 11,5 kg is light enough and super fast.
@@thatguy77006 After racing my supercaliber for the last 5 races this season it absorbs all the small bumps and surprisingly sucks up everything you think that it wouldn’t. You do feel a bit stiffer on some chunky sections but it sure doe make up for those .5 second time delays when your climbing.
@@thatguy77006 it is not a pure down hill bike, if like over here you are going to be using it over downhill over big rocks i suggest to change the tyres immediately, this has made a huge difference after i have changed to 2.25 maxxis ardent
I think they made a big mistake by not giving it at least 100 mm of travel. It isn't that light at all. However I want that bike it'd be perfect for my trails here in my area
@Gel Saints - Thanks man. Sorry for mean stuff in my other comment earlier. I see yu tried to ignore that (which is good). I guess we can all agree that Walmart and Amazon will out other bijes on their shopping list eventually. In the end it might all be walmart stuff. lol!
Because I somtimes ride gravel ultras, I like to have a large space in triangle. Just tested and there is place for 1L + 0.75L bottles as on typical hardtail. It's pricey, but not all of us need AXS and kashima's and so on as on this top of the line variant :D
Bro obviously doesn’t know about frame flex. Trek made that feature specifically to replace the lack of a linkage. I ride a 9.8 xt and it is not as “rough” as he claims it to be. And plus not ALL Supercalibers are $11,000. The 9.8s are $6500-$7000
I bought a 9.6 and it’s so much fun and at this price point I have very few reservations as far as sending it! I bought the thing to ride it and that’s what I’m going to do. If it breaks, it breaks!
I've bought a Supercaliber last year and used for 8 months. First, I should say this bike climbs as promissed, but to descend, it is terrible, no control and not safe (due to 69o head tube). Also, I faced lot of issues with Trek components. This is fact my major complaint: rear tire is gone after 1.200 miles. The bike was delivered by a Trek store without proper spoke wheel adjustement, and one got broken when riding. Bontrager hubs are horrible as, in any contact with water, it damages the bearings (replaced them twice in 8 months!!, the two wheels),. The head tube also very susceptible to watter damage and intrusion. Painting is beautiful, but very fragile, don't touch anything that get damaged. The rear chain stain frame cracked after 2 months of use (replaced by Trek under warranty). So, I shold say I am not happy with Trek as a brand neither with Supercaliber.
Canyon lux has 100mm travel, traditional components for the same money and same weight. And it comes with shimano XT 1x12 and full XT breaks. So I would say not really, especially for the custom shock, which would cause a lot of headache when service time comes
Yeah it is worth it, especially when the frame on it's own is 3200 euro and canyon lux isn't as good as the supercaliber, and if need be trek will sort any issue with rear shock!
@@rockfan448 GIANT doesn't suck. You suck and your overpriced bikes that just copies what GIANT makes and then hires American bike celebrities to project this image of superiority. Truth hurts you fool.
@@andyyy5646 dont be rude and idiotic bro. It's true some of giant bikes are walmart bikes. Its true, nobody denies that. They want to service the needs of all people be it budget or top dollar. But come on, let's be serious, Giant Trance are one of the best. Every rich guy in our village has one.
