I have kids and I would like to think its not torture for them...what was difficult was dealing with an autistic father for them but I matured enough, developed personally to a point where I am able to give them the love they deserve but we my son out it once "you are not like a normal dad" that hurt for a while. They have my traits but thankfully gifted enough to succeed in life.

@@corsicanlulu thank you wasn't easy I was absent for their early childhood and I still struggle to connect at times but I learned being present is more important. If I had to do it all over again? I wouldn't have children not to sound cruel but out of sympathy for them and me

@@mistert1628 well im an anti-natalist myself so i understand completely. just....dont tell them this it will hurt them; but i know u wont. u seem very sensitive but some parents do tell children this sentiment not out of spite or anything, but it still hurts nonetheless

@@corsicanlulu you're a wise person yes words like that very nearly destroyed me because like Chris in the video my traits were recognised very late in life so now I try to pause and look at myself and that helps me realise (most of the time) how cold my words are because unfortunately I can be blunt and a little too honest. The love I have received from my family healed those wounds however...the world lacks respect simple basic humane level of respect for each other.

It's funny, I never liked Chris Packham until I saw the program title... My Asperger's and me. Bugger! I had to watch. Mostly in tears! Now I have a lot of respect for him.

I also could not ever maintain friendships..but..I love learning .. adventure and anything in the outdoors ..I love being alone (although I do love to converse)..as long as you replace over-rated "friendships"..with worthwhile activities, you will make friends..but..not to be maintained for long..enjoy life each day..we do not know what our future is..it could be in a few minutes..do what you LOVE..not what you think society says you should do (or be)..then you will be happy...I am so very happy each day..I see many young people have such hardships, due to the fact , they try to be like everyone else..and I see a lot of misery..I never had that problem ,due to my special brain..enjoy your life ..every day when you wake..is a new beginning..you can change it completely at your whim..enjoy!!!

@@ipixz3 aspergers is not bad as autism! I saw billionaires suffering aspergers (one was on Bloomberg sometime ago) this is why I believe they should start their own business, it not their fault it's others for not understanding them.

But is it really the Asperger’s per se that has caused you these issues, or society’s lack of acceptance of any deviations from the perceived normal? Because believe me, being surrounded by the right people (in particular with regard to employers) makes a huge difference - I know because I was pushed to the point of hating my inadequacies so much that I tried to commit suicide; and more than once. But now I’m happy again, I have formed new relationships, I have new colleagues and I am very successful at work. And this is all because I’ve found people who are willing to accept me as I am, autism and all.

Well...I cannot compare my situation to yours because of our different genders and family situations (although we are the same age). Despite your intelligence, I'm not surprised you struggled in school because people with Asperger's have trouble with liberal arts subjects (i.e., English, foreign languages, Reading Comprehension, etc.) and having social problems will negatively affect performance. I wish I had answers for you, but I don't because I can't even figure out my problems. Thankfully, more people are becoming aware of Asperger's, which should help people like us, but it will take some time to notice changes in society.

Whoa, I do care about what you have gone through. I care about the struggle that every person with Asperger's goes through. I'm sorry if I offended you, that was never my intent.

Find a way to express your feelings, music, art, poetry. Give it a go. Read a book called the Charisma Myth and Dale Carnegie. Look into yourself for everything you are led to believe you have to get from others. Try shadow work questions and some inner child bonding work. Lots of love to you. Alot of us think this, go through it and come into the light and make your life work. Lead you life with love as often as you can, not fear. All the best 💖🙏

Do you have an interest? It's likely you would be very talented at something you are interested in. If you do, check out YT for more info and what others are doing in that subject. You'll have more ideas. Whatever we are personally good at is actually in demand. What we struggle with is trying to fit into 'normal' jobs with other people around us. That becomes more about coping with their illogical oddities. It's them not you.

Beautiful! We simply cannot fit neatly with the soap-watching normal people. We understand life in a different way, logically more than emotionally. Personally, I wouldn't change anything and my life has led to an incredible understanding of myself, and now, others more and more. We are multi-faceted pegs that don't fit into predefined holes.

Many psychiatrists are crap in diagnosing high functionism autism, especially in women... they just read the checklist on their manual, and can't understand you can have some traits but not others and still have it, especially a few traits they consider absolutely present in everybody with autism

You do still qualify as Asperger's. They just changed the term Asperger's with ASD to broaden the spectrum of autism and the criteria within which you qualify on the spectrum. You were diagnosed with Asperger's so you are still autistic, it doesn't just go away just because the medical community changes the umbrella term within which autism occurs. I really do hope you aren't diminishing your autism because of this and invalidating yourself.

Difficult concept but, eventually, you may realise we do not have to fit the world of normies. WE are multi-faceted, often with incredible talents of our own. As we get older, it can become easier to understand. once we do, we begin to see how and where we Do fit. Life then gets better

Tadesan I have been through horrendous things (that I don't even feel comfortable explaining) and no I'm not pulling the victim card here. My lack of social skills has made me an outcast, bullied relentlessly for even the smallest thing, lived under the roofs of Narcissists, but I absorb Biology, Anatomy, History, Psychology, Philosophy like a sponge, I have written my own Sci Find Stories, created Art pieces, composed my own music, and it's because of my Aspergers that I do these things. People want others with Aspergers to be "cured" so that they aren't bullied. An epiphany came to me years ago, why would I want to be "cured" so that I become like everyone else, bullies, unempathetic (and Empathy is one of my most powerful strengths) and to fit in with them giving away my drive for the things I love doing, for that focus, for the thousands of thoughts happening at once that HELP me imagine whole worlds in my head, to transfer in writing and in music, to give away my empathy, so that when someone else with Aspergers or Depression is being treated like shit, walking down the Corridors with loads of people laughing, staring, shouting at them, I'm to join in? Don't think so. The device you are typing this message on is an expansion of the early advances of Alan Turing who had Aspergers. Ryan Hunter Well said, and though I think aspies can be narcissistic and psychopathic (not naming any names), it seems a morally neutral, or even better thing to have. 'We' are usually the ones who dodge bullies, not find victims.

@@therespectedlex9794 True, just because someone is an Aspie, doesn't automatically mean they are a saint. This of course is the same for Neurotypicals. There are indeed brilliant and amazing "normal" people out there who are unlike how we say them at times, genuinely compassionate, Empathic, good natured and respectful. I think it is society that needs to change, Neurotypicals have flaws in their society, but because their society is the majority and has been since the beginning, of course they are used to it. Great change and I mean REAL change, (not what every political faction from SJWs to the Alt Right or the most important politicians tell you ) where everyone is taught empathy, no need for modern cultures. Start from the ground up and begin again. We don't necessarily need more Aspies, just more compassionate people.

But also, books on the subject are written as if it's only Asperger's which is the problem for those who have Asperger's, or who don't, and of course it isn't. So everyone should know better.

Watch his full documentary. Chris speaks of how many times he contemplated suicide, went through dark loneliness and identity crisis about not being "normal". These 5 minutes were just a piece from his documentary.

David Golf It isn't really though is it. I think usually you can tell if someone has 'issues' and how you choose to treat them is a moral thing. In Chris Packham's case it's not as if he has ever done that badly, or even appeared to be very socially awkward, or very naïve, on TV. I wouldn't want to be hard on him if he did have problems, but his success must take the edge off - it's enviable for him to have done so well.

@@therespectedlex9794 I have always thought there could be a little ''Spin'' going on here. Very fashionable these days to have a ''label'' & then fish for ''Sympathy''. May be good when raising lots of money when you have a bee in your bonnet over something like HS2. Now with a fortune of tax payers money already being spunked, it would be foolish to stop, imagine the people that have already had their lives turned upside down find out it wasn't going to be finished. The main thing i have found about people who say they have aspergers is they get focused on something to the detriment of everything else & a usually are very selfish & have no empathy with others. @@kevinparker461 People with Asperger's are by definition supposed to struggle with, or lack, empathy. That said, it doesn't always mean that they do have the least empathy, or no sense of fairness. Depending on how assertive you are, or your station in life, things can be very different, for those with the same condition.
