Will inbreeding over generations lead to the an abundance of one sex? Reason why life finds a way and a close bred genetic colony is forced by nature to make an outcross.

That’s an interesting insight Frank. I’ll have to give that some thought. Keep up the good content!!

A really interesting theory which seems very plausible to me. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the videos. It is really nice that you are sharing all your knowledge on RU-vid for the new fanciers like me. Your feeding method for racing season is really interesting. Can you do a video showing how you mixed your food and the weekly type of food that you give combine with the amount of training according to the distance of the coming race on the weekend? I think that is the most critical and difficult area for me. Thanks

I will tell you a story that happened to me back in the 19.90s with inbreeding an inbred family of pigeons I created by luck more than judgement . I bought a really good two year old cock that had competed in 13 races and scored 13 prizes including I think was 3 x 1st and I chose an unraced yearling hen to pair to him from the same loft . The first year I bred 3 rounds of YBS it was 3 cocks and 2 hens and unfortunately I went into the loft that same year and found the original yearling hen dead in the nest box . The following year I put the original cock with his dtr + a full brother and sister pairing due to work commitment and raising a young family I could not race the pigeons the that year but had this family of pigeons flying out at the lofts . The year after I went back to the source of the original pair and took a cock on loan same blood of the hen of the original hen which I then paired to the dtrs of the number 1 pair and the offspring of the brother and sister mating and then paired various matings of the original pairs x offspring of those matings it was very easy to chose pairings all the cocks looked the same handled the same and the hens were all beautiful handling pigeons with violet and golden eyes . I had a friend that had cancer I gave him a round of young birds that I had bred the following year he said to me he will beat the cancer because he wanted to race these pigeons and he did . He took the federation and combine by storm taking first 10 12 positions some weeks they would win 75 to 500 miles on the day . I used to give ybs to charity sales from this family of pigeons that were always the sale toppers . I unfortunately did not get to race this family of pigeons but enjoyed breeding winners for others and then I had to take a forced break from pigeons and had total sale but for many years I saw on pedigrees of top class pigeons references and ring numbers of the pigeons I had bred from this inbred family of pigeons . My friend unfortunately died in the early 2000s and the small team of widowhood cocks every pigeon a first prize winner and the originals that I had sent him plus a small team of ybs fetched 40.000 pounds in total auction for his wife which was a lot of money back in those days for pigeons. I thought I would share my story of my family of inbred pigeons created more by luck then judgement .

/ I had previously read that increasing the proportion of protein in eating lead to an increase in the proportion of males in the carrier pigeons, And your experience may also be a new addition.. Thanks 🌺🌺 .

Thank you Frank. Btw, I flew the babies from my stock breeder cock that had the forward facing eyes? Idk if you remember talking to me about it. Anyways, my yb came in 1st and 9th fed at 108 miles and then 1st and 6th federation at 238 miles. Nestmates both have forward facing eyes and doing well. Thanks for encouraging me to not listen to that old school flyer, Lol

Can you race inbreed pigeon, like Sire to daughter?

Rarely do inbred pigeons race well but it does happen. My suggestion for best success is to cross everything for racing.

Is your line of Van Reets inbreed to a male or female ancestor?
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Год назад
The Van Reets are all bred from two brothers. Van Reet took a daughter of one brother and mated to the other brother. Very close family genetically.

I do think nature forces males to venture off and look for mates. Hard to prove,.

@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons As someone who studied Population Genetics, I can tell you that your observation is accurate. An imbalance in the sexes among inbred populations has been observed by many geneticists. There's an interesting paper on the inbreeding depression influenced migration of sexes titled "When Not To Avoid Inbreeding" that was put up in Estonia about 20 years ago. In addition to going into detail on the subject, it cites a lot of research on the topic of inbreeding avoidance.
