I agree that as a economic blueprint. But as history shows, and somewhat repeating, India was invaded from the North and North West. We want to build our defenses in the North and trade using our sea route. Anyways, the modern Silk Route is out Of reach for us geographically

Pakistan economic woes are very less due to the reasons mentioned above and more so due to the arrival of corrupt leaders in Pakistan who destroyed the institutions to benefit themselves and their families. I believe the tide is turning now with Imran Khan at the helm.

@Munish the GDP declined due to reduction in imports in order to address the current deficit. This was done for the long-term benefit of the economy. The recent numbers have already shown improvement.

These subjects are still taught in India in the 19th century mode of compartments as separate disciplines. No student is taught in history classes how to study a map in the book. Fernand Braudel calls history as "geo-history".

Let's hope that Afghanistan will find its place under the sun. The Taliban are fiercely independent warriors. Let's wait and watch their governance. I feel Pakistan and China will soon have more trouble from the Taliban than they had calculated.

And why is Taliban courting Russia and China for help. India is now against Russia and China, and is now openly with the Brits, NATO ,japan and the Americans. Sir, with due respect, there is one contradiction I have with your today's presentation....I don't think its a defeat for USA in Afghanistan this time, rather its a game they started long back when Mullah Baradar was released in 2018...I believe USA wanted to leave from Afghanistan asap (which escalated by Corona) to focus on something else which strategically more important to them (which we all know) and they wanted an exit without much bloodshed (which we saw)...also, with this exit I foresee a cloud of something big is coming in next 5- 7 years

We had limited resources to focus on east, so we put whatever resources we had to secure northern border. But in present and future we can focus on multiple fronts.

India should start really looking East. Its time to forget the Afpak region and start investing time and energy in the Eastern countries such as Myanmar, Thailand etc from where better returns can be had. It needs to consolidate the NE region and open up the borders.

Its better to invest in india itself more for now. foreign investments mostly dont seem to yield any major returns than internal ones. the political risk is just too high and indian diplomacy hasnt yet matured to the level of power projections like major powers in economic affairs

Shifting resources to east means convergence of interests of China and Pakistan. Yes neither we have forgotten nor forgiven the separation of east Pakistan. You guys overly wishful. Loved to bleed Pakistan through Indians consulates in Afghanistan during previous regime and now want to shift towards east. Wah gi wah.

@@romm2885 We will shift our resources , wherever we want after measuring the pros and cons. It's not for a meagre country like Pakistan to even think that it can influence Indian decisions but we are stuck with Pakistan so is your country because of our nation politics, both national political fraternity knows that without each other it will be hard to materialise hyper-nationalism within their population thus cannot reap any of the benefits. You talk about the fall of Dhaka ,like it was only our role in East Pakistan which led it to become today's Bangladesh. You guys lost it because of the genocide which you incited on your own people(Not my opinion but the biggest fact sir, documented well in almost every major paper regarding it).

Dear Mr. Gupta, after listening to you multiple times, I strongly feel like your analogy about Afghanistan is made with facts observed from 35000 ft above the ground. When you talk about the Cold War between USSR and America in Afghanistan, you completely forget Afghans. Invasion of Russia into Afghanistan deny them the freedom of religion. Taking that advantage America collaborated with Pakistan to Arm them with American weapons and Pakistani Islam. Which helped them win the battle. During this 20years of American rule Afghans have tasted the freedom and advantages of democracy. Now they will fight with Talibans to establish democracy which America had understand. Now the Afghans minus American minus investments and support will build a free and democratic Afghanistan.

India should first fix the internal problems. We are more than population of africa and as diverse as entire european union. The only way to do that is to build strong, transparent and accountable institutions. Also Increase in low cost connectivity and transport for both goods and people. A strong India internally is like a good immune system that can fight virus of terrorism and challenges from climate change.
