This is all due our embassy's weakness. There is hardly any Indian embassy who picks up phone. Have tried several times. U must bring this to the notice of Joint secretary (South East Asia) Ministry of External affairs, New Delhi. His number and email, given in the website of Ministry of External affairs.

Combodia has horrific past from khamer ruz era of dictatorship when 2 million people were killed under his regime. It's one of the most corrupt country due to low per capita income, poverty and illiteracy.

I faced a similar situation at cambodia vietnam border .I was asked to pay 30 usd for exit stamp at vietnam for 2 people initially and then was asked for 200 usd .Did not give a single penny and got exit stamp after 4 to 5 hours waiting. Got help from cambodian visa police.Indian tourists are harassed in very bad way.

I went to Cambodia by Air in 2019 never faced any problem got visa on arrival by paying 20 USD may be the problem is crossing by road which is maintained by border police . Ek baar aur jab bhi group me jate specially Indians they tend to face lot of problem during immigration . Its good you contacted embassy aur twitter par bhi Indian embassy aur Cambodian embassy ko rak kar inki le lena tha BC ki .

You have to take it into consideration that corruotion is very prevalent in most South East Asian countries except Singapore but the degree of corruption varies with Cambodia being the most, then followed by Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Laos and Malaysia, Vietnam. This is largely due to poverty and ruling elites being most corruption. In Cambodia, the average earning is less that 2-3 USD a month and government officials police, immigration, customs who do not get paid well resort to corruption with most harassment, looting being faces by tourist travellers by immigration officials and businessmen for consignment clearances at customs which has become a norm than exception. Hence you need to do your home work well in advance while entering the country by overland or from Airport. If you are driving there, make sure you have the 3rd party insurance, Carnet papers there. You should better apply for visa (if required for your nationality) well in advance from your home country itself rather than applying from 3rd country. Also take letters along with contact details from your friends (preferably local citizen or a PR) hotels, businesses (if you are on a business trip) in those countries, which will be handy. these corruption officials will intimidate you, provoke you, insult you, but need to be polite but firm and tell them that you will call your country's embassy. Though it will be of little help particularly crisis situation, but there is hope and possibility... it will help to ease the situation. If you are driving, particularly on Malaysian Roads, please do not over speed (police will surely summon youband ask for fines and take you to local police staiton and hareass you untill you cough up Ringgits). Also do not drive too slow on rightmost lane, give way to the local Malaysians driving motorcycle in high speed and flashing lights as they are aggressive and throw helmet, paint or any object on your windscreen. It is is true that those with Indian passports will face lit of harassment as compared to Indians of other nationalities, this us also largely due to Outlook .. if you have beard and shabby looking talking loud then surely will get more into problems, just ile at them a bit will work. Good luck traveling to these countries.

I had been to Cambodia 3 times from Thailand I was lucky everytime immigration no problem for me I was there in 2015 last

I’ve traveled through most of this countries during 2006-2013, never faced issues. I’ve always taken visa in advance through the embassy and not at the border. I think that’s the difference.

I have went from Vietnam to Cambodia and from Laos to Cambodia as well. Taking a flight is the best option as there is no trouble at immigration at the airport. Of course the flight costs between 100-150$ but when you factor in the bribe you pay at immigration by road + the costs of travel + the time + the headache it is actually a bargain.

Same problem we faced 3yrs back while crossing Cambodia land border. We crossed to Cambodia via Thailand with 8-10 Aussie and US travellers, Cambodia border official asked me $5. Usually westerners resist and never pay even $1, Cambodia border officials are scared of US citizens and never ask money with them.

Indian government should immediately take action and should ask Cambodian embassy to answer Great work dr saab... Thank god I will never go to this country..

I have crossed Cambodia boarder from Vietnam, I didn’t have such kind of problems, there is fixed extra fees 5 usd, so I gave 35 usd and it was a smooth process.

If the Indian Embassy was active here today, then perhaps these people would not have dared to misbehave with the Indian tourist and abuse the country, but alas, it is not so. Because the government and embassy of the country are the representatives of that country and its people in other countries, due to not being seriously active and responsive towards their citizens, the image of the country and its people gets spoiled in the world, which we also got to see today.

6 years back on while traveling to bangkok from siem reap, immigration officers tried to do the same with us. Made us wait and harass us, I told them I’ll tweet and complain to ministry of external affairs they got scared and let us go Sushma Swarajji was very active on Twitter those day

I went to Cambodia in 2017 and didn't face any issues except while returning the immigration officer in the airport, asked for 1 USD for stamping, which I gave. In Thailand also once a police officer asked for 1 USD in the airport for just showing me the correct escalator to go up... hahaha. In new Delhi airport , a guy asked for 10 USD from me to show me the transit gate , I gave him 10 RS ultimately.
