In this tutorial, I'm going to show you 7 simple reasons why your beats aren't hitting, or in other words why industry producers beats sound better than yours. In other words, how to make beats for placements. In this video I'm going to cover common mistakes producers make, mastering tips to make your beats better, the drumkits for making beats, beat making tips every producer should know, how to mix your beats, the biggest mistakes producers make, the best vsts for making your melodies, and everything you need to know to make your beats slap in fl studio for 2022 like metro boomin, wheezy, pierre bourne, 808 mafia, etc..

About that chord where you raised a note to one that isn't in the scale, it's called a dominant chord (or 7 chord). And it's not the only time you can use those non-diatonic notes. You can make any minor third into a major third and vice versa, which will effectively turn any chord into a dominant chord. Dominants lead to a major or minor chord that is 4 scale degrees up. So you have these chords here Ebm, B, Bbm, Bb7 (dominant) (no root note) But because of that dominant, you can actually move it to something starting on an Eb major because of that dominant chord. Here's an example Eb, Ab, Eb, Bb7 You can make any chord you want into a dominant chord. And that will act as a pivot point to a major or minor chord that is a fourth above your dominant. So that second chord progression could be something like this Eb, Ab7, Dbm, Db Mixing and matching these dominant chord pivots at different times is how you come up with unique progressions that sound good and nobody is doing.

For not so experienced producers I don't think structure should be the main focus as you don't really even have an understanding of how it will sound structured yet. It's still good to keep in the back of the mind. If you're new, I believe it's better to focus on getting an understanding of good sounds and getting good ears.
@mordulvaga

One little trick I use for arrangement is acapellas, if you have a rapper in mind, and a tempo set, make your beat then fit an acapella on it and arrange it around said acapella, it doesn’t work ALL the time but it definitely allows to you get a feel for what you’re going for.

Bro so I started making music and nothing ever sounded right because it just didn't feel like my own stuff cuz I was using other people's beats and other producers. so I put in the time and effort to learn how to structure a beat and learn good drum patterns and good melodies and honestly I seen a lot of comments on this saying why people should just stop producing and stop taking the time to learn, which I completely disagree with. people just expect you to be a professional when s*** takes time you just got to spend the time and effort and realize that this kind of thing takes sacrifices. I'm in the studio 24/7 working on beats and sometimes I might not come out with something but most the time I put something together that I'm happy with and something that sounds like me and I even teach people how to make their own beats. so everybody who's saying just stop and don't take the time and that you're wasting your time, the one thing I got to say to you is let them be as beginners and watch them grow and watch your ass fail.

When I listened to Lil Baby's new album and compared it to my newer beats, I can confidentally say my beats and mixes are better than industry level in a lot of songs, the beats you hear on RapCaviar are often not even that great. The real good and top tier beats are the ones you find from lesser known artists. A lot of the industry productions that I've heard in Rap Caviar to my surprise often had really bad mixes, really mid beats and it's simply cause they have lost the soul in their music. Lots of the producers in there don't take time to make an interesting, somewhat unique beat, have a great balance, the perfect mix, etc. It's all just about quantity rather than quality and lots of people I asked on discord told me the same and they confirmed my mixes / beats sound better than most shit on there and I'm not even a super great producers. We just really don't give enough love and appreciation for the smaller producers who are often WAY better but simply don't got the marketing / networking skills and therefore stay unseen. Listen to people like Stxrm808, itwasashy, theskybeats, Slushex, Lionaire, Skypierr, Kedalos if you really wanna hear some of the most talented trap / hip hop producers out there who just don't really have a name. I feel like people are way too focused and have tunnel vision on the same generic boring shit we've had for the past years and forgot that there are lots of lesser known artists/producers whose songs/beats have much more work put into them and often sound much better and they're just too lazy too look for them

If you want to "use more sounds" you should look into orchestration. It's a "classical" technique like arranging, but the point of it is what kind of timbres work together, and which ones doesn't. Also, you might not be able to continuously layer 2 sounds, but you can change between them. Have them respond to each others melodies (as heard in DubStep a lot) will give you tons of extra detail and movement to your track. Also also, a quick and dirty way to introduce more colour to your track is to use the 7ths and sometimes 9ths. But, that requires a bit of music theory to work. So, for an interesting switch-up with minimal theory required; putting the 3rd or 5th of the chord (the middle one or the top one) in the bass will do the trick more often than not.

I few times or at least once I heard him say “A HUGE THING YOU GOTTA DO” like you have to listen to him and do exactly as he says OR ELSE! Like no bro like let’s be honest here, he’s right and wrong at different times a bit, but both at the same time too bcuz well one thing I’ll say and this is ofc imo is that people didn’t make rules for them to be followed every and all the time… THEYRE MEANT TO BROKEN HERE AND THERE!.. but just not for all of em like here’s an example of him sharing his opinion on something he claimed “YOU HAVE TO DO” (it’s at 3:14), like no that’s a personal preference thing but at the end of the day it’s on your part and totally up to you if u want to follow other peoples “rules” or do something different, go your own route / way with things…. Does anyone feel me on that or nahh??.. 🤨🧐🤷🏻

I've found your format of "why(insert specific subject) are better than yours" very helpful. Tons of information, but only useful information
