I used to live a few houses away from a small bakery. The smell was so gorgeous I often queued up outside before it opened at 5.30 in the morning and bought three loaves - white, wholemeal and granary. They were all so good I just had to have all three. Bakeries like that no longer exist, bread barely smells and has no taste (unless its a revolting rubber sourdough). Almost every loaf you can get contains soy flour and oil (if its not bagged it still contains it without a declaration) and that's one reason it is crap, but the other reason is the FLOUR. Even when I bake at home I cannot get the taste and flavour that bread used to have. The reason is that the variety of wheat that is monocropped in the big grain producing countries has been changed TWICE since my bakery closed. The seed suppliers like Monsanto have replaced healthy wheat with a wheat maximised for productivity and pest suppression - not nutrition and flavour. The lack of good grain is a worldwide affliction.

@@lizadivine3785 Exactly! Never buy (eat or drink) and food or beverage products advertised "on TV." That's a great rule of thumb. For most Americans, I recommend making sourdough rye bread at home. If you eat bread at all. No "store shelf" bread. Europeans North and East of the Rhine River traditionally at rye bread and drank rye beer. That's well documented in the historical record. Wheat dominated Spain, Italy and Southerly parts of France. Rye is far lower in gluten and has different proteins. Now do "gluten sensitivities" around the USA make sense? Yes, now it all makes sense. We must also now worry about what we DO NOT WANT "in our bread." Yoga mat chemicals keep factory store bread "spongy." Nobody sane wants that anywhere in their bodies.

In India, our staple is Roti & Rice. Roti is made with whole wheat flour & water and nothing elser. Rice is prepared boiling in water, and nothing else. Almost all households prepare fresh food 3 times a day, i.e. home cooked food. It is rarely you would order from outside. So I genuinely think that Indian food is so much better. I don't eat much bread anymore, because I was having some gut issues when I would eat wheat. Did you know that it is now standard farming practice to spray the entire wheat crop with Roundup before harvest to speed up the drying process? I believe that chemical is ruining our healthy gut flora. It's crazy spraying that on our food! However, I found a source for flour made from an organically grown ancient wheat variety, and I can digest it with no issues. Yay! The place is called Sunrise Flour Mill, located in Minnesota, but you can order online. The flour is more expensive, but a 5 pound bag goes a long way for me and it's worth it to be able to an enjoy an occasional treat of homemade bread that doesn't make my digestion go whacky.

Use only unbleached stone-ground organic flour (pref. rye), water, and sea salt or rock salt. Nothing else! Make your own sourdough starter from the flour and water. No yeast. That is what basic bread has been for thousands of years. This kind of bread is available at some stores in Canada, and I'm sure in the US as well. But it costs $7.99 per loaf where I live. Instead of that USA are the unhealthiest nation on earth with 2 out of 3 people morbidly obese. In stark contrast we have emerging or third world countries living a basic but very much healthier way of life. It’s an extremely sad statement of fact that our government don’t care about any of us, 85% approx of all foods sold in any supermarket are unhealthy and contributing to people’s long term health issues, instead of legislating against supermarket chain telling them, to source good organic produce at a prices we can all afford more easily. If they really wanted to reduce the backlog for hospitals or doctor visits by 30% it would be very easy to do. But it’s not in their commercial interests.. I haven’t bought bread since the pandemic we make our own twice a week from the best flours and substances we can find. It really is not a lot of effort as most people think.. We frequently make and give away loaves to lots of neighbours and friends who rave about it amongst themselves.😂. We’re in GA, so we have Publix here too, and I recently started making my own bread bc of this. I know it’s just one piece of the puzzle, but for years I put off making things like fresh bread myself bc I couldn’t afford to change everything else. It FEELS like if you can’t go directly to a cow for milk, and if you’re not using natural laundry detergent, and if you have a sweet tooth and eat a few cookies, and if you can’t buy organic “everything”, that there’s no point in doing anything at all. But I decided to start making bread, regardless, and next I’ll try something else. Piece by piece. I may not be able to get “everything” natural and organic, but some is better than none. Then I realized that the biggest reason I thought it was pointless if you couldn’t do it all was all the articles about “if you’re doing THIS, then you’re screwed”, it was “them” MAKING it seem pointless. Now, I’m not only making things piece by piece, but reclaiming my own mind piece by piece, too.

I would argue no bread is healthy regardless of whether you make it yourself because our body breaks it down into straight glucose, resulting in a blood glucose spike. It doesn’t matter whether the bread has “added” sugar. Bread IS sugar. I’ve been making my own bread for years because it tastes far better than anything I’ve purchased in the store, but I understand it is a treat. I don’t consume it every week. When I do consume it, I eat a very small portion to avoid a glucose spike in my blood. It’s the constant glucose spikes over the long-term that results in disease.

Fabulous bread recipe found on Pinterest, for anyone interested. I use buckwheat and 3 eggs and whichever grains etc I have. Works a treat and delicious! Here is how to make this delicious bread at home: Ingredients: 2 cups almond flour 1/3 cups + 1 tablespoon of ground flax seed ½ tsp salt 1 tbsp baking soda 1 tbsp whole flaxseed ½ cup cornstarch 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar ½ cup Greek yogurt 6 tbsp butter 4 eggs Instructions: In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients, and add the flax seeds. Over medium heat, melt the butter, leave it to cool for 5 minutes, and add the wet ingredients to the dry ones. Mix with a spatula until you get a dough-like mixture. Then, transfer it onto a baking pan covered with baking paper. Sprinkle with flaxseed, and bake at 175 degrees for 25 minutes. Use a toothpick to check if it is ready. Leave the bread to cool down, and wrap it in a towel. To preserve the freshness, it would be best to keep it in a Ziplock back.health India, science India, food India, health, science, nutrition, food, science,

I was hoping Ezekiel bread was the winner! Great flavor, too! Ever heard of Mom’s Meals? I have recently received pre-made meals after very short hospital stay. (Horrible experience). Bread that was supplied looked like Wonder Bread made into rolls. And the spread for rolls was MARGARINE! Not a fresh salad included in my vegetarian meal choices! I threw all the “food” away. Oh, in the fine print there was a GMO-ingredients statement as part of the “health information”. This company is owned by mega-corporation and proudly states on website that they supply all 50 states with healthy meals delivered straight to your door after a hospital stay to help with your healing! UGH!

I do make my own bread using the ancient Einkorn grain which I grind myself in my Vitamix. I add a little raw local honey to feed my sourdough instant starter yeast.

True! True! True! May I brag? My wife recently retired. Since she is quite the excellent wife, she decided to learn sour dough bread backing. It isn't easy to pickup in a day. (There is a learning curve). But she persisted, and now she is able to judge the process well enough to produce very good bread. It tastes great, and the house smells terrific. Easiest way to win quick is Beer Bread. RU-vid has many educational videos to guide the newbie. She enjoys it, and enjoys giving it away.

Not easy to find, but German wellness bread is the best I've found. I keep it frozen & toast one slice. It's not usually in the bread aisle, but with German foods. It's about the shape of a small brick.

Authentic German Pumpernickel bread......densest, heaviest bread comes in tiny bricklike loaves. Only a few ingredients, grains are only pressed to crack the shells, so all nutrients are left in the grain. Usually made with beet juice, only stays fresh a few days.....I swear by it.

the answer is easy . They are selling flour 3 times each one separately .1.They call it flour (but it s only crushed endosperm, which bromated )2.they call it bran ( which is the outer skin of soluble fiber ,food for your gut) and 3. they call it wheat germ ( which is the most nutritious part but spoils very fast ). By eating what they call flour you are starving your body of nutrients found in bran and wheat germ ,while at the same time ingesting potassium bromate ,a known carcinogen not used in Europe and Canada , that is detrimental to your health

Baking your own bread at home is quick and easy! Just 3️⃣ ingredients: flour, water and salt. Yum! Usually I also add a handful of walnuts or whole pumpkin seeds etc When I started baking my own bread I was stressing about proportions, time, temperatures, technique… Now I use my intuition and every loaf of bread is perfect.

To be fair, i make my own bread. When you use yeast you need to add sugar to get the yeast activated. Sourdough, however, should be just flour water and salt. Once you have mastered bread making, it is very straightforward and not a chore. In fact it is quite therapeutic.

Yeast is perfectly able to raise bread dough without added sugars. The sugar in the flour is sufficient. That's how the French make their famous baguettes: hard flour, yeast, salt, and water.

If you're using a good bread yeast, there's absolutely no need for sugar; if it needs them, it will use naturally-occurring sugars in the wheat.

This video just came up while visiting Sweden. I was just blown away by the myriad of choices of healthy full grain bread when I went to the bakery here the other day. If you were to atempt to sell this type of bread in the US, you would first have to educate Americans about it, or you would quickly get knocked out of business from plain white bread.

I do make bread myself sometimes. You need a sugar to help yeast rise (I use honey). I use avocado oil as the oil. But ingredients are basic: flour, yeast, a small amount of a sweetener, flour, water, an oil, salt and whatever herbs you add. Ezekiel's is very expensive. A couple of years ago I walked into a Whole Foods in downtown Denver looking for a whole grainbread. None. I asked a store associate. No, she was sorry but no whole grain breads??? Denver is supposed to be a very health conscious city, but I have a very hard time finding true whole grain breads. And I mean independent bakeries also. Yeah, he showed 2 breads I often will opt for: Orowheat and Dave's. Time to look closer.

I literally just started baking our own bread about three months ago. I don’t eat a lot of bread personally, but my husband does, so I too, spent one day looking at all of the ingredient labels of the bread and that’s when I decided I needed to make it myself. It takes time, but it is so worth it for our health, and it is delicious!
