He plays golf like an engineer: reducing variables, thinking quantitatively, and optimizing all his advantages. Such detail-focused play should be applauded by golfers everywhere

I loved everything about what he was doing until it got to the 'he plays slow' part and then I immediately understood why people don't like him, haha

I have a 3 plane swing. 1) Backswing, 2) Forward swing, 3) Whatever plane aligns with launching the club into the nearest large body of water and straight into the ground if no water is nearby.

Tiger changed golf but mostly because he was just so crazy good at what everyone else was doing for years. Tiger is still an old school player with traditional style. His equipment is very traditional golf purist. Bryson, not as good as Tiger was, is doing everything differently, and is truly changing the game. Not just perfecting it like Tiger.

He's just doing to golf what so many other sports have experienced already: he's a total logical and mathematical machine about it. You can't stop it, all you can do is adapt.

I was a high school golfer in Seattle from 1996-2000. I was one of the better players in my area and all of us had heard of the myth of Ryan Moore. Moore played at a high school about 40 minutes outside of Seattle and was the best junior golfer in America. I got to play with him once at a tournament in Yakima. He was incredible, I couldn't believe I was playing with a teenager. He went on to play at UNLV and, as was stated in this video, is one of five golfers in history to win the U.S. Amateur and the NCAA Division 1 championship golf tournament. He had a moderately successful career on the PGA tour. I've heard of Ryan Moore.

Some people will play like scientists, some will play like artists, some will play like both. This will never change. I don't believe that golf will ever be conquered by just one approach.

As someone who has no interest in golf or understanding of it or its mechanics, not sure why I clicked on the video. (Probably the hilarious rivalry with Keopker) Just wanted to say this video was phenomenal. Clear, well explained, added graphics for explanation, footage alternate options....awesome. You've turned a subject that is quite boring to me into really interesting. Gold fans need to get to this video.

As someone who never watches golf, I thought it was one of those slow games reserved for ppl with more patience. Who knew even they had limits on players slowing down the game

I always thought the different club lenghts was dumb, especially the shorter clubs that look like kids clubs. I'm 6'4", so bending over was annoying. I've been using same length clubs for awhile, game has improved tremendously.

There's beauty in mystery and natural feeling, but there is also beauty in the deep understanding you can get from precise calculation. I have great appreciation for this style.

I wish I learned about him sooner! Think about it : He's getting more bang, with less effort on his body. I'm wondering if his "prime" can actually last longer than most players? A Buff-Nerd-Playing-Golf that's absolutely amazing to me!

I can tell you this much...last week at the Wells Fargo tournament at Quail Hollow (Charlotte, NC), Bryson was BY FAR the sole guy there who was going out of his way to be nice to the kids during the practice days. Mind you, due to COVID, there were no autographs allowed. Did that stop Bryson...not one iota. Did other golfers use that as a reason as to why they'd ignore requests from the kids? YUP...Including McIllroy, Mickelson, Fowler...(side note, John Rahm was also VERY courteous to the kids and went out of his way for them). I watched Bryson, without even being asked, go into his bag....sign a bunch of his golf balls, and give them out to kids. He also, without hesitation posed for photos with folks who asked him as he was walking off of greens, onto the next tee box. He was 100 percent, a class act.

I love it. He made the effort, brought some innovation (that works!) and science to the sport. The talent was always there, he only enhanced it by working hard and doing it differently.

I am a casual golf follower, so I am aware of Bryson Dechambeau, but didn't know much about his game. This video gave me a new appreciation for his game. Give him the credit to be able dissect every aspect of the game and take advantage of it. Ironic he got a book called the Golfing Machine, and became the Golfing Machine later.

Never heard of the guy before (I don't watch golf), but I like him already. Doing everything to become the best, including stuff that others haven't even thought about, is the way it should be.

The only thing that matters is where the ball ends up

It's refreshing someone is challenging convention. He sees golf analytically, breaks it down piece by piece and rebuilds it. And it seems to work. With a major already under his belt I see a very bright future for this guy. Good for him, as all I see is jealousy creeping in from more established players on tour. They should concentrate more on their game and less on his.

Brysonia is behaving exactly as his old man did at that age. His father however got very sick , had a absolute life altering surgery and somehow came out the other side a completely new man. Went from d-ba* to awesome overnight. Hopefully Brysonia follows suit with the attitude

Bryson is awesome man. I've watched a lot of vlogs where he's just chilling or working out and he seems like a decent and fun guy.

If you are staying within the rules and getting results you aren't controversial you're a genius.

I love slow play... shooting pool or playing golf, you can always level the field by taking your time and playing your own game. Even in fighting, pace determines victory, and if you can make force or somehow convince your opponents to play your game, your odds of winning dramatically increase. Hope yall keep it in the short stuff✌️

No one dislikes him because he hits it far or uses same length irons. It’s because he takes 5 minutes to miss a 6 ft put and says things like “I play Augusta at a par 68.”

I find the air density thing hilarious. In theory it makes a difference, but since he's a human and therefore isn't going to have exactly the same swing every time, I would think it makes that difference negligible/irrelevant.

As someone who has never played golf, I enjoy his RU-vid videos because you get to hear his line of thought on why he chooses clubs and why he hits like he does. It helps a newbie like me understand what’s going on.

Hes not weird.. that word is dissmissive... hes got eccentric ideas on golf... but outside of golf he s a regular fun loving dude

A great, well pieced video. My favorite most definitely is his approach on pitching, where each club is the same length only different weights. It’s a whole new way of playing. Such a simple set of clubs, yet still versatile

I haven’t followed PGA golf in a long time but you may have just introduced me to my new favorite player and given me a reason to start watching again. This guy sounds awesome. The maniacally scientific approach he has takes huge amounts of discipline. I also am intrigued by the single length Cobra irons. I need a new set of irons and I really want to try these now.

The two masters of the single plane swing, Moe and Byran, with their record breaking accuracy and distance are disliked due to being so successful by employing a non traditional club swings based on scienctific analysis. The success of Bryson's innovative swing, putt etc do not threaten the Great Game but it does threatens those who have a big investment in time and money teaching and promoting the traditional golf swing mechanics. Bryson, too smart and well educated not to have anticipated the negative reaction to his iconoclastic swing and philosophy would be, and all the more so when he ad the audacity to win.

The beauty of golf is that you have a 18 tee boxes and 18 4" holes and everyone can play it whatever way they like to get it in the fewest strokes.

Years ago a PGA player got so upset with the slow play of his playing partner he left him and played on ahead ( was possible because they were the first group out on the day). If I was a pro and my playing partner was figuring out vectors and air density before hitting his shots I would be 6 holes ahead of him before he made the turn.

Everyone says Bryson Dechambeau brings "science" but I say science has been the absolute *center* of golf improvement from the start... he just brings more *refined* science, and uses the actual term.

They do need to address the issue of the time he takes, generally speaking rules should be applied in the pro scene aswell to how long a match should take.

He’s incredibly strong and insanely intelligent. Those two skills alone make for an amazing golf player. If other pro’s complain and talk shit about him, it’s because they are scared and/or threatened.

Good video. Thx. Just a small correction: the club head weight differs each club. To achieve the same 7-iron feel for each club, the head weight is adjusted as well as the shaft weight. To achieve distance gapping, the loft and shaft flex are also different per club.

I love it when science and athletics come together to completely max out the potential of the player. After a few generations, more and more people will start to approach golf scientifically rather than traditionally. The strive to be the best usually falls in line with survival of the fittest.

He was the top golfer at a rival clovis high school. I was fortunate enough to meet him and play with him on a few occasions. His skill and form is unrivaled, most successful man I know in my friendgroup

He does not play that slow Anymore though, people are stuck in that even though he goes along the place of the field.

Putting is one of the toughest parts of the game... There is a reason people say "Drive for show... Putt for dough..." Chipping is the second hardest part and second most frequent set of clubs used in the game... I've seen 70 year old people that can just kick the snot out of young kids (Myself included)... Cause their short game and putting is so amazing...

I like how after every aspect of Bryson changing the game the narrator gives us an example of when it was done before.

Same way I was taught how to shoot a soccer ball. The physics of the swings are very similar and I was a geeky science kid so my trainer put shooting into physics terms for me. Cool to see somebody at the top of a completely different sport learn in a similar method.

Didn't know about his swing or club lengths, but both make sense to me. Confidence is also a huge part of this guy's game, when you are that calculated you aim small miss small. And he knows its working too.

I think it’s a thing of beauty.. no wonder why he gets so hyped up when he makes his putts, especially the long ones. He’s excited for two reasons, #1- Making the put.. #2- Knowing he got the equations correct that he has to do to calculate the speed, angle, and distance to hole in order to make it. As a math geek, I bet that’s probably just as exciting for him. If his calculations are off one day and he isn’t focused and calm, he golfs bad and gets his own equations wrong. Getting them both right is probably a great feeling, especially since he’s doing it his own way and some people don’t like it.. if he got them wrong and missed, everyone would be talking about how pointless his way of golf is. I’ve been wanting to try one length clubs so bad but I just can’t spend the money on that and risk it. But the different lengths messes me up if I don’t concentrate on different swings

I've recently started playing golf, watching this video is really interesting. It seems that adapting the stroke using physics and personal preference increases consistency. Will need to try some of these out!

I'm a fan of DeChambeau. I wish he was around when I first started playing golf 30 years ago. As a tall player, I had problems with the shorter clubs. To make all the irons the same length would've helped me immensely.
