Why Is Death Stranding SO BAD?! 

It's ok to like this game and its ok to dislike it but can we all agree that we should've killed Fragile with our motorcycle in the beginning? Game would've been WAY better. Something I've learned to appreciate when it comes to Kojima is that if you just accept the goofiness, you're WAY better off. When I first saw those monster energy drinks I just thought "Of course Kojima would do that" and went about my day. I then proceeded to do actions in the mirror for a good 5 minutes because Sam is such an awkward goofball.

for me this game scratches an itch that like, no other game does. i love the feeling of planning out what i need to bring on my expedition, plotting a route on my map, following along as best i can or suddenly having to adapt to an unexpected variable, the feeling of taking a break halfway through where you find a little nook or cranny where you can let Sam rest and at the same time, get up from your chair and go make some food, then come back 15 minutes later and continue your journey.. nothing beats that.

I play this game everyday, since I work at the Post Office.

The one part about this game that I'm interested in is the nature. I wish someone took the map and the graphics and made a Long Dark-style wilderness survival with it.

I made fun of this game from the first hint of it, and when it came out for a year, I mocked my friends for playing it. Then I played it, and I couldn't have been more wrong. It turned out to be an experience I will never forget for good not bad, go figure...

Avatar: The Last Airbender has a nice twist on the "protagonist isn't familiar with the world" writing trope: Aang *is* familiar with the world, but the world has changed around him, so that challenges his knowledge and lets us experience it while he does too, but avoids having us go "wait he grew up in this world why doesn't he know it?"

I have a feeling this concept would make a good movie if done right

Actually picture this for a moment: imagine the hiking sim aspect of Death Stranding but put it into World War 1 and you are a runner.

I love this game. It's so absurdist. I love that it can take you ages to get up a mountain just to fall all the way back to the begining. It's great, and I'm really glad they got to make the game they wanted to make.

You know, sounds like this game starts way too late in the character's life. Should've just started when he was just starting out being a porter. Through his learning we can learn what that means and how the world functions, and witness the other things as we move a long instead of just having characters saying words.

This game is divisive because its core premise for gameplay is one that isn't really implemented to this degree in pretty much any other game. Needing to plan out your route, adapt on the fly to changing terrain and storms (or bandits), and then successfully pulling off everything is a feeling of accomplishment I haven't felt in many games before. Yet just like going on a hike is in real life - it takes time and some effort, so if you're just looking for quick action you aren't going to enjoy it. The accomplishment is in successfully overcoming the minute to minute navigation and managing longer trips - without that challenge and without the constraints, there wouldn't be much to this game. I greatly enjoyed this game, and I'm hardly a Kojima fan - I have yet to ever play the Metal Gear Solid games (though I have seen them played and am quite familiar with them indirectly). It has some questionable decisions at times, such as how long it takes to do anything when resting in terms of long animations and the like. But the actual navigation elements are the selling point of this game, and only people who actually enjoy needing to plan out their moment to moment route and do pathfinding will enjoy it. For those of us who do, it's an extremely unique experience.

When kojima told that this game is the future, he was talking about corona, and people living in isolation.

Kojima’s penchant for shoving important info into long audio logs instead of weaving plots organically has really soured me towards him as a writer.

This is one of those games where I love and hate it at the same time. I love how fleshed out the world building is when you explore the game, the desolate environment and how players can help eachother worldwide. But I hate how they executed a competent story so poorly, and bafflingly. How they treated promising characters poorly by shafting their character development or with poor writing, and how overly pretentious it rubbed off onto me. Also Fragile's performance is so stiff and robotic to the point where it started to bug me. Nothing against the actress.

This game could be used as a training video for UPS or Fed Ex.

Was against this game for the longest time till I tried it yesterday, honestly I'm glad I did. It's not the most enjoyable game you will ever play but it was really fun and I can't wait to play it more. All the goofiness and the curiosity to why things happen is what hooks me to it.

Dude, first time I completely disagree. I understood everything based on context. And I knew the parts I was not familiar with would become clear. It's mystery. It played something like this: Tears, an Allergy. Ok so he is having an allergic reaction to.. Chiral? (It's asymmetry in molecules so Sam is allergic to beings in a mirror dimension. So his Allergic reactions alert him to their presents, we wont know that. But might have heard 'Chiral' before.) You have DOOMS like me? Ok, "You have dooms, its either a disease, condition or super power. Lets see. I have the extinction factor? Hmm.. doesnt sound good, shelve that. But she has him beat, so Sam has whatever this is. But she is clearly on a higher level. Ok, so there are levels. Sam is at a level that allows him to sense them close by. Kindof hear/see them. But not See See them. Weird, ok. But she can teleport. And see them. Ok, so how high does this go? The anatomy is weird. She's eating... Eww.. Ok, so eating those supposedly either controls the weather or is a way to treat its effects or something like this I assume. No idea how you cannot follow. Its clear, yes there is alot you do not know. But the fucking stories conclusion isn't going to be handed to you. Clearly its complex, go along for the ride. Every part of this game is a masterpiece if you get over yourself and just let the game wash over you. It blew me away over and over and left me speechless. I wanted to immediately play it again. But I wanted it all to be fresh again. I was sad that I could not experience it for the first time again. That has never happened.

I can't even watch playthroughs of this game without getting bored I'm ngl. I think tho that shows me too that the game isn't exactly bad it's just weird and for specific people I think

For me it was one of the best I've ever played. Simply amazing no joke or irony here. Story, locations, setting and music are great and it doesn't matter that the game has some imperfections. What really matter is how that weird and slow paced game made me feel EDIT: at some point I stopped believing the story and lore can be explained but when I've finished I understood everything and all things make sense at the end. 10/10

That's why my strategy is not moving into the uncharted areas until I built the roads into it. The cost of resources for the road is nothing compared to the risks that come from riding blind into the unknown. The countless return trips will make the grindy road investments worth it. If the roads don't go into the secluded prepper camps, I can just simply hop off my vehicle from the closest road side, park under a time fall shelter, then leg it with a floating carrier from there. Much better than hauling back-breaking tons climbing steep slopes and crossing deep waters.

I remember playing the first few hours and was like what the hell is going on. Now I have over 90 hours in it and could some up the story and sound like I had the biggest drug trip in my life.

Basically you want action and a lot of action in your games, that's fine. This is more of an experience. If you take it slow, you get immersed!

Coming back now to tell y'all this game is worth it. If you just let yourself be immersed in the world, it will be a once in a lifetime experience. Safe travels, Porters.

i could not agree more. i even do not agree that the "good" of the Death Stranding is really good. At first i was satisfied at least with visuals, but later it is all the same, flat, somewhat lifeless..

The game answers a lot of these questions as you go along, but I can definitely see what you mean. Besides delivering packages, I thought this was one of the best games I've played...but not because of the gameplay exactly. The final chapters were incredible...the final bosses, the one scene where it's like an old-timey fighting game with Troy Baker's character, and the cutscenes. As far as the main character being unlikeable..I can see that as well, but I like that he didn't fit into the typical mold of a protagonist. Idk, I liked how odd and convoluting everything was...I also like things with a lot of dialogue/context. xD

There are some games that I can’t understand another’s dislike for. Games I loved so much that when I hear someone with the opposite opinion, I’m flabbergasted and question their taste... Death Stranding is not one of those games. I really enjoyed it myself and found it to be an interesting and engaging experience, but whenever I hear someone say they hate the game, my response is simply “...yeah, fair enough”. Though love it or hate it, we all can agree the story is the pinnacle of Kojima’s pretentious nonsense

It is a great game - innovative and refreshing. Yes, it is not for everyone but Hideo is a singular developer and god bless him for taking risks. Also, the Act Man hates Death Stranding but LOVES MW2.... LOL what a shocker!

Imagine this kind of graphics quality, atmosphere and budget for a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game.

I love this game, but I can understand why some people might dislike it or find it boring. However, this game is very unique and has a strong sense of authorship, and I think it's wonderful that such a game has been released to the world. I intend to buy the sequel as well. Above all, I've been a fan of Director Kojima since playing the MGS2 demo that came with Zone of the Enders.

Man I love Your reviews and I respect Yours on this one but my opinion its totally opposite Death Stranding for me its amazing game I platinum the whole game nearly twice spend around 500 hours on it and love it every minute. Most people do not get it then its about connecting people and come together to safe humanity basicly helping each other and Hideo did great job with that, everything is perfect story, gameplay, graphics and most important actors acting. The main story is heartbreaking aspecially If You are a father with the Hideo Kojima twists it's not a post man game its more then this for me its masterpiece but Man the content for this video its very creative and even we have differnet opinions I like how You put it all together hehe

Always thought Kojima was a laughably bad writer - the Ed Wood of videogames. He’s OK creating quirky high-concepts but needs a professional experienced writer to make it all work. Storytelling is the art of communication, and Kojima’s writing definitely wouldn’t cut it in film or novels. Used to think it was just bad translations, but decades after PS1 MGS, and after so many well-translated Japanese games, that excuse doesn’t fly. Moreover, a bad translation doesn’t explain DS’s core, glaringly illogical story inconsistencies and some poorly directed cinematics

Plant life is affected by time fall. Certain buildings not being affected by time fall is explained. Fragile not being able to teleport with the nuke is explained. Literally that concept is explained every time you fast travel. This guy gets so incredulous about having to listen to dialogue, it seems that he might have glossed over things. It's a lazy critique to say things aren't explained when they clearly are. You don't have to like the game but some of this stuff feels like personal confusion that is conveyed as objective truth about the storytelling

I am usually a short-attention-span, three-things-playing-at-the-same-time kind of guy, but this game is something else, almost like meditation to my ape brain. And I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, the same way I don't openly recommend weed or hip thrusts to my co-workers.

Remember guys, Death Stranding is temporary, but Doom is ETERNAL.

This game is what happens when someone really good is told they're perfect. There are many decisions made with this game where someone important should've said "No," or "Maybe we should rethink this."

I think Kojima is not trying to have another lighting in a bottle it’s just him paving a new way for video game narratives. Even MGS V is more than the cutscenes it shows… it has narrative bits in NPC dialogues you have to be patient for. It gives away information as well as discusses the player’s actions in the world

"It's better to be simple and deep, rather than shallow and complex". I truly do love Hideo Kojima, but he can get REALLY up his own ass at times and needs a good co-writer or producer with him to make sure he doesn't go off the rails. The world of this game is amazing, but Kojima is just not a good screenwriter so his characters and story just suffer because of it. Give him borderline complete control over a project as writer and director and this is what happens.

To be fair, Kojima's been using product placement in games for years. Calorie Mate is a snack/energy food in Japan (tastes decent) and it's been in Metal Gear for ages now.

This game is a weird amalgamation of all Hideo Kojimas "Deepest Darkest Secrets" that he as yet to publicly admit, Like the fact that he is gay or the fact that he has one hell of a twisted mommy complex that Lloyd Kaufman would find revolting. I dont know whats going on in that head of his but after playing this game, i dont want to know! There is more man ass in this game that would make Bioware employees blush!

This was one of the best, most unique gaming experiences I've ever had. Put 166 hours into it on my first playthrough. Other than online games(rdo + gtao), this is my most played game. I'm not even a kojima stan, literally never played one of his games before. But I loved this, so much. The story is ingrained in my brain. It made me feel things only hellblade and Plague Tale Requiem have been previously able to.

Death Stranding is what you get when there is nobody around to say "No" to Kojima.
