You came really close to mentioning the biggest issue I had but then didn't actually say it. When I go to Google, I'm looking for specific data like you said... But I'm no longer getting that data. Because I'm searching for technical information, I'm a tiny minority of their users. So they're optimizing it for that type of natural language regular question answering that more people do. So me dropping in a bunch of keywords for technical information, might not get me what I want. It'll give me ads related to it. It'll give me articles. But it won't give me pages with the actual information that I want. It's been overly optimized for easy-reading articles and average users. It may even ignore my search query information to give me what it thinks I want.
It's all about the ad revenue. I recall when Google would even pickup geocities and homemade websites that would have obscure information but still interesting none the less
yeap, almost like they hide it form you the stuff you look for, or it just drowns in the sea of shit surrounding it. Forcing you to use some special operator to further specify for the thing you are looking. In my opinion youtube is the worst offender in that regard, i am at a point where i search for videos using ANY search engine just to find what i am actually looking for. For some reason, it just stops displaying results after some time and just throws random shit at you, or displays the same stuff over and over again if it is a search engine.
Thats exactly why I dont use google anymore. Whatever happened to showing me the results i searched for, instead of 3 sponsored spots, then a bunch of shit Google thinks I want, instead of what I want. Typically I go to duck duck go at that point, and find my answer within a minute or two. Google as a search engine has become kinda trash IMO
I just got early access to the new Bing AI and its RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. Much more sophisticated than even ChatGPT. What a time to be alive. We're seeing this AI revolution unfold right in-front of our eyes.
ChatGPT was very stupid and couldn't handle any unique problems. I am currently on the wait-list for the Bing AI (have been for a few days now) and I hope it's as good as you say. (By unique, I mean it had no basic logic system for simple but unanswered objective questions)

I think one of the biggest reasons for ditching Google Search, at least for me is SEO. It is getting increasingly harder to find exactly what I need on Google Search, instead being shown e-commerce results or listicles with little substance and depth.
I like this term; listicles. Those "Top 10 XYZ" articles that are flooded with ads and give the most high level overview of whatever the topic is, as if the writer googled the topic themselves only minutes before writing the page.

as someone who frequently searches, I didn't noticed that! My searches today mostly equates to coding problems and game wiki. But AI is slowly making me reduce my searching to game wikis

Google is over monetizing their search engine. First off, I don’t want opinion articles published by bias entities (if they are selling the product, its not objective). Second, it is like they really don’t care what I am looking for and don’t adapt to my searching habits as well as they could. I look for the same webpages and they seem to push those down the list regardless of how many times I have searched the same thing and clicked the same link. As much as I hate pop-ups, one from google asking if my search query was satisfied would be nice. I love YT but their algorithm is pretty much the same. If I click a video then close it soon after, I didn’t like it. They aren’t very good at finding out why, e.g. undesirable content, voice or visuals that are unpleasant to me.
@@noahjones9833 I 💯% agree with you. But causing users to dislike the platform is not advantageous for them. Since I started trading stocks and been trying to research them, they have made that very obvious. It is scary what information they will temporally hide or promote. I am talking about more than just a few annoying articles placed at the top. They have gone as far as completely changing the results for a search query for crucial hours of trading. Scary things going on.

@@nidhaljegham8485 Perhaps YT can be disrupted. Personally a huge consumer but I do find some of the features lacking. The fact that great content creators are diversifying their content over to Patreon is a leading indicator that YT similiarily like Twitch are bound to some shortcomings.

Wow, TIL that I hadn't realised how less I search than I used to (unless I need specific info for projects or being curious about something) . The way you've described it being about content coming to us, is very accurate. I also noticed that my search style has changed over the years to be more natural questions rather than a set of key words; this now means AI search, for me at least, is going to definitely be the way to search for huge majority of situations. The OS is the key here - windows update of OS and applications resets the search engine to Bing by default: Google is the same with Android, but has less control.
im just gonna test it out in like a month and choose what i use. ive been using google so much but if something better comes out gotta test it out and make a decision. see ya in a month to see how things are going Edit: been a month or more and it feels a bit different than chrome, searchs are a bit easier for quick answers, few times small issues but all in all its an improvement. In a few months its possible microsoft can compete with chrome if they continue to improve the ai and search. Its not a complete overall but its a big hit
One great point here, we don't search as much as we used to. How correct!!! I see Google working it's way around this and still staying in their dominant position.
It was only a matter of time before reaching the upper limits of knowing everything about everything would be achieved (without fabrications and lies creeping in to fill the void by people actively guarding their privacy) but being the world's biggest search engine in a time when a.i. is basically reading people's minds isn't that bad.
I would say bing search integrated in the start menu is a factor by adding users. But that is reason why I dislike it. I just want to search my desktop for files and not the internet

Google was trying to hold out and milk this old cow for all its worth. They may have waited too long, Edge/Bing is amazing, Google will have to give up the ghost. We're about to get a bunch of new toys.
microsoft was mostly always better than google stuff, windows phone was better than android for example, but google was king on Google maps and google search. microsoft now recently improved they search, the map is stll inferior to google but they are improving, and edge was always better than google chrome anyway.
I mainly use google to look for fast responses when programing, like a function I forgot the name or a quick stackoverflow answer. However daily I mainly use RU-vid for research. If I'm looking for learning how to make a mask with telefone number in JavaScript I'll search for a video, or even If I'm curious about something. However I DO NOT TRUST GOOGLE. That's because the content is sponsored. So If I'm looking for a espresso machine for instance I WOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT trust the articles and reviews. That's when I'll probable look on RU-vid and even though I'll be skeptical. My wife generally look for recomendations on Facebook groups, she has the patiency. And I think she's absolutely right because you'll be mainly listeling from true life users that will tell you all the pitfalls those amazing products have.
Firstly I never knew I would say this but microsoft edge is really good. It is very helpful on its own and bing Ai is just cherry on top. I dont think I will go back to firefox again even google somewhat made things better.
imo all search engines have been getting worse, SEO means big websites with many articles usually come out on top even if they have barely anything to do with what your searching about. AI solves this problem but it sometimes gives you factually incorrect information

Are you using google analytics to see how popular google is and comparing it to yahoo? I might be mistaken but isnt that dataset generated by what is searched on google?
@@slumpdogyt Majority of googles revenue comes from ads, be it search engine, youtube, pretty much any website that uses google ads for their ads, the more of their software you use, the more data they get, the more they profit, they do benefit from you using any chromium based alternatives
I think searching is still relevant for work. Having content delivered to you before you even know you want it is ok for entertainment. But when you work, you're more goal oriented, your targets are more specific and you specify them out loud.
Google doesn't show everything anymore because of laws, or requests to remove data etc. I still use it but maybe I should start looking for something different. Also AI...could be a dangerous time coming.
Artificial intelligence is just, an algorithm that's simulating (human) intelligence behavior. Too much people have sacral like thinking about it resulting from lack of knowledge how it works
ChatGPT, as I understand it, basis it's results on a huge repository of data. It's not thinking. It can confidential give a right answer e.g. but will just as confidently give a wrong answer if it has gathered enough misinformation.

You can try different AI search engines, though at the moment there’s not too much variation in bias. That is, they are all left-leaning. Two others besides ChatGPT are YouChat and Perplexity.
Theyve already got plenty of control, its probably hard to get more in depth than they already are. I agree, but the problem isnt the tech inherently, its how theyre using it and why we arent doing anything about it
For the websites I visit, ads aren't really horrible, even without adblockers (such as phone), but removing my PC adblocker is still really really bad.
its probably more a result of massive marketing campaigns directly on google, and inside the operating system itself where Microsoft practically begging to use Bing ;)
How are the market share stats calculated considering most PC users have at least 2 browsers? For some maybe even 2 open at the same time at any given time
If the search engine market shrinks in general this doesn’t mean Google’s Marketingstrategie of said market shrinks as well as it always will be a SHARE of the whole search engine market. Meaning, the things you brought up about how the search engine market shrinks doesn’t affect Google’s share of that market directly.
I'm sorry, but the Bing app is just horrible, you can't open the results in your preferred browser. The settings menus overlap over each other (design flaw). The reverse image search is no where near as good as Google lens, you can't even recognize text on images. I tried but I couldn't stick with it. Also, google maps has no competition.
Searching for any specific FACTUAL data is a pain. No matter the topic. All I get is tons of articles from websites that usually provide contradicting statements and don't provide good sources if at all, and it's mostly copy paste statements anyway. How is anyone supposed to learn anything if there is all that garbage pushed to the top.
Google is falling into the same trap Microsoft did with Skype. The moment you rest on your laurels is the moment a competitor steals your userbase out from under you.
Google is a search engine.. Adding chatgpt to bing makes it a productivity tool not a search engine.. So what we are discussing is not a search competitor.
I got my 1st computer in the early 2000s, at that time yahoo was the search engine that everybody talked about so that’s what I used, I use yahoo up until this day, I’ve never had a problem with yahoo so why do I need to switch to Google??? I also still have AOL email as my primary email, I’ve never had a problem with AOL so why do I need to switch to google??? I’ve yet to find a sensible answer to this,,,,,

There's no such thing as "they don't sell your data" especially if the product is free. Moreover even if you pay them not to have your data sold to someone else they still use that data for something that benefits them at your cost. What you do on the internet stays on the internet forever.
I do believe AI is going to make us more efficient upto a point...... But as a mild socialist, I would say that in a people intensive economy where we need jobs...... AI should not be allowed to replace people.
As long as Bing is limited to desktops, it is limited. Mobile browsing is still bigger than desk tops. The only people excited about this bing AI are tech people."Regular" people are not all that interested and see AI as another spying device.
@@AshenDemon I use Adguard DNS so no ads what's so ever and I use Google news a lot over the years search became super tailored to me it you want to see it for yourself search something you are interested in do the same thing in a friend phone and you'll see that the results ain't the same
@@walid6329 Google News Search or Regular Google Search, because regular Google Search doesn't tailor results and you are blocking ads so your not getting the ad results which are the only thing that's tailored. So if your talking about regular google search you aren't getting tailored results.
Not being from the US I wanted to know how much is a nickel worth... all the first pages were about how much nickels FOR COLLECTORS are worth, which has nothing to do with the amount of money they represent. I had to go on Wikipedia to discover their actual worth of 5 cents. Somehow, I don't think an AI would have helped, they would have given me the current price of the metal nickel.
I often have to research topics so I Ecosia things quite a bit, but I did notice that just in general I can spend entire days without ever using Ecosia at all.
The problem with being handed only things you like is that there's no way to expand your horizons. Maybe try something new. I like it when RU-vid offers me something I haven't demonstrated interest in. I also hate it when RU-vid continually offers me the same subject after I have said I'm not interested. If I don't want a vid about sewing the first time what makes you think I want to see a vid about sewing the 57th time.
Yeah especially with google making search even worse on firefox, my switch to bing or something else is all but determined. TArget ads if you want, but god damn at least give me what i came for
The future is Bing and Cortana 2.0, i can already imagine Cortana controlling your smartphone for increase the volume of the song u are listening to, or writing a complex message to a friend and telling her to send it to whatsapp or any app. in a more humane way, not like siri
