Reminds me of the story of the Little Prince. When the Narrator was a kid he drew a boa constrictor eating an elephant, but the grown ups only saw a hat. As an adult himself, he would sometimes show is old drawing, but still grown-ups were closeminded and only saw a hat. That is until he met the Little Prince who knew immediately that it was a boa constrictor.

@@Pugly It's a wonderful children's story filled with imaginative symbolism. Netflix has a movie adaption that is also very good, though it's less of a retelling and more of a continuation of the book.
Rug Island's a reminder that while we as adults cannot return to the comfort and protection of childhood full time, we can tap into our inner children to give life a sense of fun and wonder in between the mundane things like work, bills etc. The ending is a tearjerker. "What did she give you?" "Everything!" Bluey and Bingo are so loved 😊
This was the first episode of Bluey that got me teary-eyed by the end of it. The music, the emotion, that final line, it both warms and breaks my heart at the same time. It’s so embarrassing because it’s all just a game, yet it felt like it really happened for real life. Very very nice deep dive as always, Pugly!

Aww, dude. I wish I had mentioned this subtle detail before the video came out 😂 You might notice that Bandit sort of has an upward inflection on his voice while playing the game. I can tell because he uses his natural speaking voice when he's not talking about the game at the beginning and the end of the episode. It's probably there to try and have Bandit sorta put on a voice to fit into an atmosphere that he is not familiar with. If it was intentional, I gotta say, that's really cool! Like the episodes "Sleepytime" and "Baby Race", I also see the episode "Rug Island" as a short film. The message about releasing your inner child is so beautifully ppresented from start to finish. Now, if I were to go to Rug Island, I would take the chance to recharge and take a breather before facing the reality again.
I love this episode so much. to me rug island felt like an embodiment of imagination and play itself, something only kids can have/be on. But as bandit rediscovers his imagination by washing up on rug island, and learning how to play again. And the line, “it’s like the outside world doesn’t exist”, symbolizes for me how when I used to play, the outside world, didn’t mater, whatever game we would play was our world. But of course, bandit still having to go to work, and the line “you can’t have two homes” for me is like saying you can’t always live in a world of pretend, that’s not how the world works. But bingo giving him a pen, to me is showing that you can still bring that little bit of pretend with you, and a reminder that as an adult (or teen) you can still have that spark of play in your life. Rug island js truly a masterpiece. We all know ss adults that we all wished to be kids again as life was more sime. Life wasn’t as complex and hard and the episode shows that the best. Even pugly can agree to me. This is such a amazkng episode. Bandit doesn't want to be silly and he doesn't want to be embarrassed but he does as hes the best. The video mate was amazing. Yeah this one is very deep, and I always loved this one a lot. As a teenager just starting to get a job, driving, and coming to terms with reality, God, and my situation, this episode represents the two worlds that I'm stuck between. I am Bandit just as much as I am Bluey and Bingo. Touchy Feely Fool (by AJR) actually fit this episode really well. I always love your intros with the instrumental music and the episode clips. SNAKE

I remember first watching this episode, it easily became one of my favourites. Not a lot of people seemed to talk about it at the time and to me it was definitely one of the most underrated Bluey episodes. I'm glad it's getting more attention! :D
I never had that sense of wonder, at least in my memory. The other kids never wanted me to play, because I just didn't... have that carefreeness. I still have never learned how to play properly. I was just... kept in a box to be forgotten about for a very long time. Now I have no chance, but this show makes me kind of grieve all that. I see a family that could've been, and friends i could've had. Now I'm just someone who rescues random animals because they're the only chance i get.
I hate how people dislike this episode solely because they didn’t give Pat the ball back. Just don’t think too hard about it, laugh, and enjoy the message/music of the episode.
I love this episode. Just don't like the part with the ball. Not fair that lucky and pat have to have their game and bonding time ruined. Other than that the rest of the episode is top tier
This made me extra emotional, because Rug Island was the first ever Bluey episode I watched; when I was babysitting my little cousin and she wanted to watch it with me. This is how I fell in love with the show.
Great video bud. Really enjoy seeing how this episode makes you see it through the lens of the child like imagination, which unfortunately is something that can be lost. Imagine the next Bluey video game being Rug island and it like a cozy farm simulator game with having your own Rug island for Bluey, Bingo, Chilli and Bandit visit Plus. Chili and Bandit pretend to be the shop owners for your inflame purchases and stuff
My first interpretation of Bandit's "everything" was that he meant that the girls gave him everything because they *are* everything to him. Kind of a flawed interpretation, because Chilli says "What did she give you?" and not "What did they give you?" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Oh dear. I've just discovered that merely hearing the music from Rug Island is enough to get me to tear up.
Rug Island was the very first episode of Bluey that I ever watched. So yeah, I was a bit confused at first. I didn't know who was who. Yes that means I didn't know Bandit was or why he's playing with children. Those things clicked eventually, but not before the ending which is a tonal whiplash and is the reason why I became obsessed with the show. One thing I also appreciate about this episode is how they play with the markers. Growing up, I always struggled with holding pens an pencils for long periods of time. I had trouble with printing, writing, and art because of this. This meant that I had way more fun stacking the markers than drawing with them. I feel seen.
This episode always reminds me of how I used to play as a kid. I've always been creative, and my imagination was haywire. I'd use everything I can find to play. Legos, pillows, popsicle sticks, long blades of grass, underneath tables and chairs, etc. This episode makes me feel so so warm. Btw I love hearing some AJR love. I heard Touchy Feely Fool and got so giddy lmao.
OMG as soon as I heard flat pack i thought I CANNOT WAIT!! I love Flat Pack so much. Rug Island is a beautiful episode,, especially the end. Flat Pack is the same!! The end ALWAYS gets me.
I always thought that all the games took 7 minutes Not only because that's what it takes the episode, because I remember reading that the creator said in one interview that 7 minutes is what some of the games with his girls took
This is one of my favorite episodes. I love the creativity using the markers for different things. I was just like that as a kid. The only thing I didn't like was the part with the ball. Where they didn't give the ball back just because Bluey and Bingo wanted to pretend it was an egg. So now Lucky and his dad have to have their game and bonding time ruined just because Bluey and Bingo want to keep something that isn't theirs? Doesn't seem fair. They could have kept playing without the ball.
I took it as he needed to get ready for work, pack his bag make a lunch etc, chilli offered to do that for him so he could make the kids happy. Then when she was done she would come get him
The real question is… How many packs of Felt pens did it take to create the resources for the rug Island game? At the beginning of the episode Chili was seen showing off a simple pack. Didn’t look like a deluxe pack .
An episode deep dive I'd like to see is for the episode typewriter. I'm not sure what it is about that episode, but I feel like I've never fully understood it and what exactly it was trying to say. These deep dive videos always help me see the episodes more deeply and I feel like it would help me with that episode.

Once you will get older, you will have to fully focus on reality, and you have to slowly put away your imagination / wild ideas and focus on job / on events that are happening right now, by it, you're slowly forgetting about the imagination and how you can make a game out of anything. The job and adult life gets you into all-time serious critical thinking, and you find a harder time to have a child-like imagination again. And that's why it gets some people to cry.
We should all take a marker from Rug Island when we're finally leaving it. If enough people did that, imagine what we could build in the real world. Rug Planet anyone?

I'm also suspicious how the regular print sold out faster than the limited print, but also people that really understand records say that picture printed records have more skips in the playback. Oh well. I missed a chance to get the first Bluey Album limited print edition for $65 but I took too long deciding if I should, now I can't. Edit: NVM there's one back on market for around $70. Now I'm back to being decisive if I should get it or not
I'm going to be honest bluey is more than adult show than a kid show. Because a lot of the things that child wouldn't understand but an adult would. And that's why I love the show so much because it's not afraid to tackle a serious topic

Something that I have always noticed in families is that fathers always find it easier to connect with that childish imagination. I mean, it is always said that the mother is more strict and boring, but I think it is more because as fathers do not get pregnant, they have to create a bond from scratch with their children, That's why I think they unconsciously pay more attention to the way they think, play and interact with the world while protecting them from this. They looking a way to get more and more in their lifes But I mean, took it with a grain of salt 😅 I'm not a psychologist or something like that, this is just my opinion
To be honest, a lot of the games seem like they use actual magic, magic xylophone just doesn't seem right as just Bandit pretending, also in Feather wand uhm... he... pees infront of his neighbors... Edit: Ofcourse we don't see the clip of him peeing, but we here him saying good morning after running into the front lawn/roadway after not being able to use the toilet after Bingo heavied the toilet lid with a featherwand.
Am i the only one who didnt like the ending??? They took the ball that didn't belong to them and may have ended the father son time lucky was having... to be that's just not right, feel free to have everyone flame me... but that's how i feel at the end of this one
I would agree with you, except Pat is very much aware of the family antics of the Heelers. He willingly went along with their game and decided to get the ball back later when they weren't using it. Even Lucky seemed to have taken it in stride

I am pretty sure Pat just shrugged it off and decided to wait till they return it. If you look closely in other episodes, there are plenty of stuff in bushes / trees over the fence ( like cricket bat etc ). So maybe Pat got used to stuff like that and that's why he doesn't make a big deal out of it. He also isn't a complete stranger, so, he will eventually get his ball back anyway.
