Why wouldn’t people be spamming HO right now, it’s the best play style meta staple Bellossom is used on. Open your eyes people, Volcarona was never banned.
My hot take is that booster energy is the underlooked factor that is putting a significant amount of pressure on the meta. Free unrestricted scarf or free LO, and it doesn't matter if it goes away if you switch out because well, HO doesn't really care about that too much generally. More importantly this item has also skewed the speed tiers for this gen imo.
@@jqvy lack of diversity is this gens problem for me. They cut so many movesets this gen that most mons are restricted to really only run 1-2 sets. So many mons lost access to defog that hazard removal is really just limited to tusk, treads, and corv. Lando T used to switch in previous gens having me wonder whether it was scarf, z move, explosion, sash, plate, toxic, defog, etc. now he comes in and 90% of the time it’s just Helmet with EP, rocks, taunt, and u turn. So many mons can just switch in once get a free turn of set up whether it be a sub or boost and then just win from there. This gens OU is so bland that I really can’t bring myself to play too much of it and just spend most my time in NatDex
@@hoovybeast0594 I also see it like that, and I have quite a funny experience with it. Once had a Kingambit tera Flying to set up a swords dance in front of mine while I tried to use Low Kick. Luckily my Kingambit was faster, its Sucker Punch knocked my opponent down to 24% health while being healthy enough to live a Kowtow Cleave, so it switched out. Later I managed to set up a Stealth Rock late game since I had nothing better to do in that moment, and thus the Kingambit died immediately upon switching in due to tera Flying. Really, even saving Tera for late game can't 100% save your ass if you can't guarantee to OHKO the rest.
Nice to see a new video from you. I also recognized that lately. But at the end of the day, no ho team can break Avalugg, its time guys, now or never, trust me I am a OU connoisseur myselfe
despite all the bans that has happened, i think one of the true culprits of sv ou power creep is booster energy, especially since booster energy is only used on those min/maxed paradox mons, it just makes the broken even more broken, & if booster was banned, then i think the metagame would be veryyyyyy different
I personally really like HO, it is a bit annoying facing it sometimes but i like playing it myself, but yeah some mons are pretty problematic that make HO good
Very informative vid, but I don't think it reallys answer why HO is seeing more usage _now_ than before. Is it a playerbase mentality thing? Are people tired of trying to build/play more sound playstyles in this unstable environment? Do they simply appreciate the objective strengths of HO more? Or is it something else entirely?
Also set up is extremely easy when you have Tera and a free boost to any stat you want with booster energy. Yea man shits kinda easy and punishing for the opponent
Hey Pinkacross i really enjoy watching your videos and streams. The last few days i tried out a choice band scizor team and i like playing it a lot, but i feel like there is some potential that i can't unleash yet. So i'd love to see you building and battling with cb scizor if possible. Keep up the great content :)
While total meta diversity is down (but increasing), HO diversity is up! There are a lot of viable styles and almost everything in the tier can fit on HO. It's quite fun.
HO killed SV for me honestly. Sending in setup mon after setup mon in the same sequence over and over takes no skill and is extremely boring to play with or against. Gone are the days when games were usually decided by who has the best doubles or predictions. Now it’s whoever has the better matchup / rng / tera
If you don't like HO then play literally any other playstyle. SV, as a format, has skill, and people objecting to that fact probably either aren't very good or rely on luck too much.
@@twilightsilver6230 Nah, he’s right though. The amount of HO in SV OU makes team building less creative and the meta gets stale. There were consistent 1200s players getting to the 1800s in like a week just by using the #1 rank HO team at the time. I’ve consistently been laddering on the 1800s - 1900s using horrible Pokémon on HO like cramorant, hitmonlee, scovillain, and revaroom, and winning against top 100 players just because I had the better match up with HO. He’s not saying the whole tier has no skill but this meta considerably takes the least amount of skill compared to past generations.
@@twilightsilver6230 I don’t like how stale the meta was because of HO, therefore I use horrible Pokémon like I mentioned to make up for that. It’s not that HO is problematic, it’s just too overwhelmingly good that team diversity is less. It makes the meta less fun to play.
@@LOgo-cv9ur every playstyle in OU is viable except stall, not just HO. If you play a style that does well into HO, you'll never have to play real games against it. I don't see the problem I'm ngl
I hope kyurem goes people seem split but a lot of people who are planning to vote ban haven’t even posted on the forums and just posted their reqs. I almost ended up going for reqs only to realize I had no free time to do so
play a teamstyle other than balance for a while then. that way you can better understand the strengths and weaknesses of balance teams when you play against them.
It needs to Tera to avoid a Fairy move OHKO, and dedicating your Tera to a mediocre Bulk Up user when you could use it on a monster like Zama, Kyurem, Iron Moth, etc. instead has high opportunity cost.
I don't play by crygon rules 😂 but from playing cart wifi 6v6 singles it's full of "hazards lead and 5 booster proto mons" and it's fucking cancer IMO. Most battles just turn into "if you don't have the stats to take 2 hits, your team loses". Yeah I beat those asses with legendaries, but when I'm not using legendaries and/or proto mons, it's basically instant loss cuz my shit comes into the field losing 12-25% health and being outsped and ohko by these asinine pokemon. Roaring moon, flutter mane, iron bundle, iron moth, and iron valiant being the most common. But w/e, I understand it's my fault for not using the damn things myself (at least for those losses where I choose not to use them,) but it find it frustrating that the game is mostly boiled down to legends + proto mons. I've completely demolished fat teams with fissure dozo and dumb shit like that, there's just no stopping the sheer offense creep this gen.
When bloodmoon ursa and ninetails alola was released i made a HO team with it and invented assault vest bloodmoon ursaluna and became top 10 in ou without effort
Hey bulky attack is impossible to counter there just slow and have everything else all stats all coverage and can’t really be OHKO’d. OH is time sensitive 3x20min games is just hard to rank up it’s so slow.
...Should Tera have been banned? Would it have prevented so many of the past OU bans of this gen? Perhaps. I would love to see a non-Tera ladder with none of the bans from beginning of SV OU, but including the DLC Dex additions, just to see what metagame develops.
it's looking like kyurem is here to stay, and if that doesn't get banned, then i really don't think anythng else has a chance other than maybe tera blast (hopefully) and gliscor (sd had a dominant olt showing). sv has been really fun tho, love the novelty of this gen
HO has been the best playstyle for most of SV. There are too many balance breakers running around, and stall is trash. Gholdengo keeps hazards on the field even when the opponent doesn't use it because most hazard removal can't handle it. HO has the best matchup vs hazard stack and also loves to run hazard stack.
Gen9 is silly. Kingambit, and pre damage priority moves ruin game really. Open team sheets are dumb. Less skill and brain power used. If people like it fine. But the constant bans tell their own story
Luckily Bulky offense and regular offense are still more consistent and overall better styles in the meta. But honestly I do largely blaim sash glimora and it's splashabilty on any HO team to be one of the main enablers of the playstyle as a whole this gen.
