You dont need to be because 7 is the most common number used in the world (7 days a week, 7 wonders of the world, 7 deadly sins, 7 continents, James Bond etc.) and when someone ask's somebody a number from 1-10, most people will almost instinctively say 7. When he started asking for a number what I did was pick a number that's NOT 7.
Benjamin hotlink just reverse mind fuck him. I knew you thought I would think 7 so I thought ahead and made you think you knew my thoughts when in reality it was I who knew your thoughts
No it was because when you answered those questions you didn't say 7. So it's basic psychology and a mind trick to make you pick 7 since it was the only one left.
Smart people will fall for this... the sad thing is the smart ones can't figure out why. This opens up a new topic of why and how this shit continues to fool people. Even though he got my seven right I knew why. I mean this was done way before this hack and the trick is play along.
7 wasn't a random number. A mentalist knows people generally favor 7 when given the option. He also knows people tend to favor the most obscure number possible in a "choose a number" game, in an effort to stump the magician. During the prep phase, he showed us numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. The only number between 2 and 12 kept _obscure_ was 7. So, why did he ask us to choose a number between 5 and 12 instead of 2 and 12? Because eliminating three choices increased his odds, and (far more importantly) the difference of 5 and 12 is very obviously 7. And that's why he also wanted us calculating impulsively and expecting a subtraction problem at the very moment he presented the "choose a number" game. Every aspect of this trick revolved around the number 7. If you chose something other than 7 without knowing any of this, you either weren't paying enough attention, favored a different number for some odd reason or you just aren't that impressionable.
The lord of cringe is strong yes but he will never go to youtube my child it's to mainstream he is at the depths of tumblr looking for the cringiest of works EVER IN THE HOOD 420 BLZE IT
Crimson ARK No thanks dude I aim to be a family embarrassment that never has a romantic relationship (Aside from the fact that this is the internet, I dont know your age either so)
+Potato Activist Wrong! He told us to pick a number between 5 and 12. 12-5=7. Intuitively, we know this. We prepared for this intuition when he gave us the three arithmetic questions. That's why it is statistically likely that we choose the number 7. The statistics are based on immediate context.
His scam is "Think of your age when you had your first kiss." Let's call that A. "Then add 3." A+3. "Then add 4 if you're a guy." (A+3)+4 = A+7. "Now subtract your age when you had your first kiss." (A+7) - A = 7. "Now multiply by 2." 2 * 7 = 14. So... we're at 14 always if I'm a guy? This isn't magic, it's basic algebra.
Lol the first kiss thing is so dumb. My 5th grade teacher did shit like that. He asks you to start with a number and then asks you to subtract that same number so it doesn't matter what number you choose.
7:25 he meant subtract how old you were during your first kiss, not the age of who you kissed (8 not 18). What's stupid is what he's asking you to do is add 8 and then subtract 8, therefore, getting rid of the variable that many vary and leaving you with the numbers he chose.
@@revan4767 how is it disturbing? Did you read the comment? The "magician" has you subtract the number you originally chose. After that it's just an equation that equals 9 no matter what
Say the age you kissed is X, so (X + 3 + 4 - X) * 2 - 5 = 7 * 2 - 5 = 9 It's not magic, just math. Since you add and subtract the age you kissed, the answers is always 9. He just gave poor instructions, resulting in Ethan getting all confused.
Mika de Grote well the only reason he messed up was because he subtracted the age of the person he first kissed rather than the age that he himself had his first kissed
Jackie Eagle doesnt matter..... 90-90 still =0 ..... Or better put 90+3+4-90=7 ..... How old are you? You either are in first grade or you should be in first grade...
I noticed that, playing along as a girl, my final number wasn't 9, so I figured Ethan only included the directions for guys in this video because that's what was relevant for him. So God help me I went and watched the original video from Rick Lax. The equation for the girl version is equally simple. Again replacing your age with x, the equation is: (X+3+5-X)*2-7. Simplified, that's just (3+5)2-7, which of course equals 9. Also, in the actual video, he pauses a lot to give people time to do the math. I think that this, along with different equations for different genders, is actually an intentional strategy to make it look like magic. The more time that passes and the more numbers their are flying around, the easier it is for people to get confused and forget what math they have already done. If they can't remember what the actual equation was, they won't realize how easy it was for him to "predict" their number.
+Exantius9 or they could do it like reddit and actually hide posts that get too many dislikes. I think the way youtube does their business is literally the dumbest possible way to run a comment section.
+danthemango The thing is, I don't think Facebook wants to hide the retarded posts, they benefit off of users visiting the site, seeing the ads etc. which is why they rarely delete anything no matter how stupid it is. But I agree, they do the worst job
Ethan shame on you, do you know how much cancer facebook likes have cured? Have u any idea how many babies have been saved by us pressing a like button? This is disgusting.
i call bullshit there is cure for cancer, and no babies have been saved. where ever you seen that it was a lie to get you to like and share the post, just like this laxitive guy in ethans video
Not as cancerous as all the dead memes with shit like "me when trying to wake up on mondays" with white letterbox and with the overhyped text like "This is totally me xDDDdDDDDdDddDdDdDddDDD" and its a dog refusing to wake up
Lmao so true, it feels good to see other people feel the same away about facebook. I don't even go on it often anymore. It just doesn't provide any value to me like it use to.
I've binge watched your videos for like a week now since i found you and dude, I can't get enough! Love your videos and don't you EVER give this shit up. It's fucking awesome
Most people will pick 7 because 12 - 5 = 7. And after being asked some basic math questions, your brain will automatically include mathematics in your decision to pick a "random" number between 5 and 12. I thought I should bring this up not to educate people, but to fulfill my own need to be considered intelligent by others. Papa Bless!
Fuck, when he held up 7, I was like, damn, no, I chose that! But I think I get his trick...5 and 12 automatically make a lot of people think of 7, because there is 7 numbers between them (5+7=12) . Probably someone said this shit, but I'm too lazy to read the comments.
It's entirely this. The maths and having to do them "fast" beforehand gets your brain geared to quickly process the relationship between the two numbers he shows each time. So when it sees "5" and "12" the most natural conclusion is...
kissing number = x (x+3+4-x)2 -5= x's cancel (3+4)2-5 = (7)2-5 = 14-5 =9 im sorry to post this but i have had enough of this spamming. this is not even a trick. the number that is put into the equation is pointless. the answer will always be 9 no matter which age is entered. sorry for the rant but i needed to get this off my chest and i thought this would be a good place to put it
Brodrick Linder not always xD He didn’t account for the children who’s first kiss was a teenager or higher!(he didn’t say consensual) like Ethan’s lol(which of course I know is a joke). But with Ethan, his number came out to be a negative, multiplying a negative by a positive equals a negative, so in this case his number was not 9.
Brodrick Linder it only cancels it out if the numbers are the same. He said what age you were when you had your first kiss, and then you’d subtract the age of your first kiss. If you two were the same age then it would cancel, but for those that kissed anyone older or younger, ecen by 1 year, would ruin the equation.
Brodrick Linder so the correct formula would be: Age you were: a Age of first kiss: b (a+3+4-b)2-5 = x If a And b are the same number, then x would be 9, but if a And b are different numbers, x can be anything.
The first trick is easy. He asked to choose a number between 5 and 12, and since you were adding and subtracting before the question, you subconsciously choose 7 cuz 5 + 7 = 12
Also notice how he mentioned every other possible number except 7: 5+3=8 9+2=11 10-6=4 6, 8, 9, 10, 11 were all in the video just seconds prior. Your brain tries to "think of something different" so he doesn't guess it and goes straight to 7.
idk if this is obvious or not, but whenever someone says "choose a number between x and x" people tend to choose the number closest to the middle, so that would be 6 and 7. Plus, since 7 is a "lucky" number, people also tend to pick 7 when asked to guess a number. idk if this is common knowledge, just though i'd provide a mythbusters-type debunk of this.
7 wasn't random. He conditioned you to do addition and subtraction before asking you to choose between 5 and 12, which is why most people subtract to get 7.
There’s actually science behind the first video, the number 7 when told to pick a random number 1-10 7 would be the most commonly picked, I did a research project on it a few years back
Zephyrinfinity It's not the fact that girls don't like me. It's that I am waiting for someone who I like back. Also, the fact that I am too lazy to add the E and apostrophe in the word 'doesn't' on a RU-vid comment, doesn't make me less desirable. If my comment was not legible, then you could have pointed it out. But you trying to call me out on my lack of interest in having 100% grammar at all times on RU-vid is completely unnecessary. Notice how I wasn't a douche when replying to you. Try it out sometime.
SOIBand not old in normal sense. but old in entertainment sense, especially if you're doing videos like that on facebook... i'm not surprised if it's a 15-16 year olds doing videos like that, but for someone older than 30 begging likes and shares like that..... he must be really weird in real life.
I mean there is a system for it, 7 obviously isn’t a random number, it’s 11-4 which are the numbers from the last two “questions”, for those easy questions your brain goes on auto mode that’s why with quick reactions the likelihood of you answering 7 is higher then the rest of the numbers (if you’re not joking around or a smartass who says sth like 7.134).... I mean I just didn’t see anyone say in the comments so I had to use the opportunity to act totally super smart..
there is also the fact that 7 was the only number not to appear on one of the cards and so people subconsciously eliminate all the others as possibilities
okay so i think there's some logic behind this just hear me out... so when asked to pick a number 5-12 we automatically know from basic arithmetic that 5+7=12 so 5+x=12 and from that connection our minds would usually go straight into picking the number 7. Which why this guy chose to guess your answer as 7 since it's the most common and sensible number we would pick. that's all, papa bless
It's not that deep, people just pick seven a lot, we tend to think it's the most random of the numbers, which in turn makes it the most often picked for games like this.
@@markbergin8821 you seriously think that the guy just chose 7 because " a lot of people will probably say 7?" There is no logic or evidence to back that. The original comment is correct. He has you quickly do simple addition and subtraction problems. So then when you see the 5-12 your brain quickly calculates the difference between the two and spits out 7. It's psychological
