There's all sorts of "flavors" of Hamburger Helper if you are going by the brand name. There are various different pasta type dishes, there's some with sliced potatoes, hell...there is even a side variant of Hamburger Helper that is called "Tuna Helper" which is basically the same thing...but instead of using hamburger, you use tuna. It's basically a "cheap quick" dinner type deal. A typical box of hamburger helper comes with a bag of pasta and a packet of cheese/flavoring/seasoning mix. You cook your ground hamburger, add in your box of hamburger helper, and boom...about 20 minutes later, you have a pretty good dinner.
I may not have been as poor as Brewstew when I was living on my own but can this day I still make what I call my bachelor Chow which is just ground hamburger mushroom soup some added mushrooms over rice it's still one of my favorite meals when I don't have the money to buy anything else
Hamburger helper is a somewhat normal "poor" food in america just add a pound of hamburgur theres more flavors than that but the mac and cheese is more well known but there are others
Hamburger helper isn't "poor" people food when you need a minimum of 4 boxes to feed a large family. I make my own version that tastes better and is cheaper. As a child in the 80s, it was a quick dinner that wasn't horrible and better than the tasteless stuff my Mom made.
@elainashelley1636 your right poor wasn't the right word but it's also cheep enough to where it's easily affordable compared to making it with "better ingredients"
1:45 I technically rent a quarter of a house. I rent a room. Share a kitchen, living room, and i ahare a bathroom with one roommate. 3:20 except when you have insomnia lol. 3:40 you're supposed to put ground beef with it.
If only they knew the good ol' little Ceasars trick stay with me now Step 1: call little Ceasars before they close like 5-8 minutes before. Step 2: ask them if you can go and pick up any left overs. Step 3: you got free pizza. Reason: they can't throw out a bunch of good pizza nobody wanted so you get a whole box of pizza for free
It depends on the type of hamburger helper you get. Some of them require milk to be added, like with the mac & cheese one, but some like the one with the thin sliced potatoes doesn't if I recall.
