Being an Indian I have a very strong feeling that whenever we talk about Indians/Indian history/Indian economy & developing programs, we always blame British & our political leadership but never blame ourselves that we are responsible for it directly. British came in power because few people wants always on the throne and allowed rest of Indian to be slaves then politicians wanted always in power and make slave again rest of Indians. Look at us in the 21st century we r still voting 🗳 in the name of caste creed and ironically those old government still wants us to vote for them.

First of all you are not an Indian and if you are really Indian then, you should know what was happened to us back in the 19th and 20th century. You people don't know how much India was looted during british colonial time. There was a serious study regarding this and it was found that around 45trillion dollar were looted by those thief's. Today, India has 4th largest military in the world, first nation to land successfully on south pole of the moon [Even thief britisher's are not able to launch a satelite in space poor BRITISHER's ] , when britisher's were threw out of the nation India's literacy rate was 7% but in just 7 decades, now it's 73% literacy rate in India with world's largest democracy and still India is developing nation, after thief's empire was kicked off from the India we were not able to feed our population but now India is self-sufficient[ because of green revolution in India] that even India export's it's rice to other poor countries and India is one the largest exporter of wheat, rice etc. and there are various best thing about India that today India is able to become one of the fastest growing economy in the world.

You missed the very important point of why India was left poor. It is because Britain looted India for 250 years, destroyed the local economy to it's roots, broke the traditional education system which was much more advanced than any other country. Books burnt down, temples destroyed, people were treated as slaves. They did everything to reduce it to ashes, but what they don't know is we are like Phoenix which can rise from ashes. Some people say Brits left long back, yet India is still poor, the reason is, it is broken in all ways to such an extent that it really need lot of time to rebuild from scratch.

This is a great video. I'm from China and we are very curious about Indian culture. In ancient times our culture was partly influenced by Indian culture probably through Buddhism. India and China have a lot in common. Both are large countries with large populations; both are old countries with splendid cultures; both used to be affected by western invasion; both used to be very poor and have a lot of people to feed. I hope China and India can settle the territory dispute peacefully and join hands to develop together. ---------------------I am currently studying in the U.S., so I can definitely use youtube.

Colonisation has nothing to do with it. 1757 was the start of the Industrial revolution which the cause of India's decline. What he cannot explain is how Germany and Japan rose to become great powers without having empires... Empires are the consequence of power not the cause. They do not become powerful by exploiting colonies. India was the Jewel in the Crown for Britain because of the vast political power it gave not because of the economic benefits which as many realised at the time were very doubtful. The rise of China in the last twenty years is no mystery. It was able to exploit for the first time for hundreds of years what in the industrial era was a massive disadvantage and this was in the same era equally true of India. - its vast static agrarian population. For these countries industrialisation had been a positive disadvantage. It was cheaper and better to employ the excess labour market and not cause unemployment than import expensive foreign machines. Catch 22. India has been poor in the industrial era because everything has been against it till now. No amount of tinkering with different governments or different economic theories would have made it any different.

Somehow this questions a very straightforward and yet complex answer. Coming to the straightforward answer, corruption, laziness of ppl, lack of civic sense and socialist policies. India as a society need to pull up its socks and start working hard. No excuses. Now the complex answer, it’s not easy to govern india. India’s problem is very very unique - diversity. In no other country would you find such a diverse population. We Indians have hundreds of criteria to divide ourselves. Religion, caste, social classes, linguistic divisions, etc etc. you’d find cultures differing every few hundred kilometres. So making laws which won’t offend anyone and benefits everyone is quite a difficult task and enforcing it is even more difficult. You’d find someone protesting against every law. And this gives rise to votebank politics and appeasement politics for the sake of winning elections. You could give me the example of china, which was similar to india when we started, but you have to understand that china had to compromise on democratic values for the remarkable growth. Dissent is totally crushed there. The west, diversity has been encouraged once they have become rich and developed. And the immigrants are expected to follow the law of the land. India isn’t like that. That’s why it frustrated me when someone offers the china model or Japanese model of growth for india. No. India has unique problems, it requires unique solutions.

The irony of Indian social system for centuries has been, that Power, Money and Knowledge should exist only with the few not the masses. The British exploited this system very well to their advantage. @@vivekvs9678 actually, you're half right. Your points 2,4, and the last one are reasons. Its not really the money the British looted from India..its the mindset that was hammered into the very first politicians by them. The first few politicians of free India were very influenced by the British. They picked up the model of exploitation directly from them. You may not know this, but the education system of India is actually designed by the British to enslave India. While China, Korea, etc. changed their education systems, *India did not*. This is the biggest problem in our development. Now enough blaming the British, look into ourselves. We are masochistic by nature. We've turned politicians into heroes. Political parties use freedom fighters who died 150 years ago as symbols. *This hero worship is another reason*. Another problem is democracy. This may be controversial but hear me out. Out of the countries you mentioned, *China and Korea are both authoritarian*, while Japan has a rigid societal system that makes its society one of the most disciplined in the world. *India's democracy is not like the West.* Remember, Democracy is a western system. It's designed for western society. India was at it's best when the Gupta Kings ruled. Todays Indian "democracy" is just a fake thing that exists to fill politicians pockets. Hence I believe that a very educated person, preferably with a modern outlook, should rule India as a authoritarian for 25-30 years. To quote the man who made Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew : *With a few exceptions, western democracy has provided no benefit to Asia.* Remember, this is the guy who advised China when it was poor.

Many countries have contributed. The wisest among those in specialities collaborate with others to expand upon and increase their knowledge and skill. Many countries have incredible contributions, which have been the building blocks for others (often from other countries) to further disciplines along. No man is an island. Rare is the country untouched by influence of others. It’s like a multidimensional, multifaceted web of connections. To make such an arrogant/ignorant claim...is to be childlike and trying to make things simple in order to make sense of complex things. Your paradigm is informed by deep biases and narratives...with ego at the center. I challenge you to challenge your conditioned thinking...examine who you are (you aren’t your country...but merely a human, a spiritual being, who is grasping to limiting concepts). Reach beyond the self sabotaging thinking.
