The West Bank is the heartland of the Jewish (Yehudi) homeland: Samaria, Judea (kingdom of Judah = Yehuda = Yehud = the Jews) and Jerusalem - where their holy temples and kings dwelled. The Jews have an indelible and unbreakable link and spirit in that region, and they have lived there in an unbroken line, with Jews remaining there even during the Diaspora, for thousands of years. It is not a place they are willing or able to give up, so they will always seek to defend their place and autonomy there.
You may choose to believe that version of history, it is one of many in that region, but believing it is not a real estate guide in the 21st century. Just isn't -- for anybody. If it was our world would experience chaos.
The Israeli have won the war of 1967. Just like Germany lost a lot of its territory after losing the world war II, Jordan lost the Westbank and Egypt lost Gaza and Sinai, Syria lost the Golan Heights. Nobody opposed when the Westbank was administered by Jordan and Gaza by Egypt. Is it possible that the main aspect for fighting the Israeli administration of Gaza and the Westbank is the fact that they are Jews?
