Rener is the type of guy u start sh!t with in a bar, He chokes you on ,Then teaches you how to do it for free, and sends you on your way a better man! Legend
@Truest Cato Maior4Evah Rener took part in the Gracie Challenges, and he wrestled in high school. He knows how to handle strikers as he's done it since he was a child.
I started doing jujitsu almost 5 years ago and have lost a hundred pounds. I trained four to five times a week. Still going strong. It's changed my life for the better
Dude I’m at 6 days a week right now and have been for about 3 months and have been consistent over 3 days/week for about a year and I hope to be just like you 5 years down the road 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Thanks for the inspiration!!
@@robotjunkie3764 oh God there's loads that I've seen and a daily constant for Paddy but if you're not getting a percentage of people hate then it means you're irrelevant! Sadly it's the world we live in now and its mostly just jealousy.
@@katokianimation why though? I wonder, I’m a fat 52 year old, but I think he’s funny as fuck , a proper character, I’d watch him all day long, go for a pint with him, and I’ve only snagged one scouse bird
@@robotjunkie3764 i have seen people making fun of him because of his baby face and his hair. Many men generally hates grapplers because they considere it "the gay way of fighting". And also Paddy spoke up for men to speak about their emotions and express it freely. The proud boys don't like it...
First Paddy Podcast and I'm glad it was recommended! Rener is amazing. I have done BJJ since Spring of '18. I am a female who is obese. I have done MA in the past, but BJJ was a whole new experience. I'm a baby blue belt w/a few stripes (that I honestly think I only got because of my dedication) and I get my a$$ kicked every class, but dammmmmmmnnnn do I love it lolol. Since females don't do BJJ as much, I mainly roll with males 90% of the time. Dealing with people stronger than me helps me improve. I am not strong like a guy, but I use my head to stay calm and breathe. I've left class bleeding, concussed, crying but I always came back the next class. Try it, challenge yourself, and if you love it, you will stick with it as well!
@@cadmus777 Ya I was not happy about it. I rolled with a brand new student and he rammed me into the wall (padded but still hard) when attempting a take down. He didn’t get the takedown but my head was hurting so bad after class that I went to the ER just to be safe and found out it was just a minor concussion. Luckily, after a week I was all good again. 🥰
@@Kikibrat2 That definitely shouldn't be happening, I hope the instructor gave him a talking to about etiquette and set him straight. Kudos to you for getting yourself checked out, but also for getting back to it and continuing to roll and love it. As long as this is an isolated incident, all good, but just know this should definitely not be happening regularly when you roll!
@@cadmus777 Ya most of the men I roll with are more cautious/mindful without killing me. I still lose but I’m seeing improvement. He was new so we were all understandable and the instructor talked to him. I rolled with him recently so there’s no bad blood. Never happened again. 👍🏾
Hehe congratulations John. It does take a little while. IMO Scouse (Liverpool) is probably the most difficult English accent to understand closely followed by Geordie (Newcastle Upon Tyne) and only beaten by Glaswegian (Glasgow).
I've never met Rener but years ago I went to a seminar hosted by his brother Ryron. Unreal level of detail and teaching. If you've ever seen the Chappelle show, he had an aura around him like Prince.
at this point if youre a UFC fighter with no social media presents idk what youre doing....Paddy, Omalley, Izzy etc. know what theyre doing. They'll have this long after their fighting career
Really enjoying your podcasts recently, I like how you allow your guests to speak and then interject when necessary. The Tito Ortiz podcast was seriously good last week and this one is great too!
Paddy’s great….I’m a fan of this kid for sure…..& appreciate all Rener Has done and continues to do for others….But anyone that is familiar w/rener knows there was no way paddy was going to be able to speak more than 2% of the interview.
Total respect for these 2. A hair's width between the straight and narrow and the wilderness, these 2 will keep you on that narrow path. Respect, yourself and others.
Real people at it’s best.. really respect you Paddy and the exclamation of Brazilian jujitsu from the master!! I think I’m going to start taking jujitsu online real soon!!
I've said this about judo for years. Your current team mate jake mchugh was our skinny teenager who fought from the bottom too before progressing to mma. Good luck to both of you.
One thing that isn’t mentioned often is that cities/departments have insurance which covers them against law suits. The premiums they pay are insanely high, and that is where a lot of the budget is allocated. If your officers are unable to de-escalate, they are a lawsuit waiting to happen. Unfortunately, many areas are so thinly spread that it’s entirely possible that no one will be on patrol if an officer actually trains on the clock.
I’ve been training martial arts my whole life. Kenpo Karate for over 15 years. Modern Arnis for a couple of years during that time. Then I started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 5 years ago. For the past 3 years, I’ve been at a 10th planet Jiu Jitsu gym. Jiu Jitsu is for everyone👇🏼👌🏼🥷🏼❤️
Big up my guy Conor Coady on chattin poneeeeyyyyyh 😂 On a serious note though, mental watching this and realising the impact this guys family has made on the world, we may not have been even following paddy if it wasnt for his family 😎👌
thats why me and my gf are going next month to the gracie academy headquarters to train. want to see and learn in person by the ones who brought it to America.
Big fan of both these guys. I’ve been able to achieve my blue belt in BJJ, and have trained wrestling and kickboxing outside of work clearly. As a LEO, I can tell you that money isn’t what’s stopping politicians. They have made rules in NY that have pretty much prohibited even using most BJJ techniques. It’s a long explanation but I’d love to explain and expose these people that block effective and necessary techniques , politicians that have 0 clue on what it takes.
I always heard about Jiu-jitsu and its benefits from Joe Rogan. In 2020, having moved to a new country and with no friends I through myself to a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu school to have a go and save myself from depression. One of the best decisions I ever made. Now I'm a 43 yo BJJ blue belt with 30 brothers. Also my 6 yo step son has recently got his very first stripe 😊
Keep the content coming! Amazing dude, amazing podcast, amazing everything! Such a huge fan and I love you and you're so relatable, bro. Keep it up, "LAD"
I watch videos of police stops & shootings. I saw one where the suspect tried to run while drawing a gun but the police officer tackled him and got him in a rear naked choke hold with legs wrapped. The second officer struggled to disarm the suspect but did finally get the gun away from him. Without the suspect going to sleep, I'm not sure who would have won. Thanks for your police training programs Rener and thanks Paddy for having him.
Shame that technique was removed from the list of techniques for control, because most, if not all agencies (and states) made it unlawful to use the neck restraint technique. Great example you gave.
UFC in the early 90’s use to allow groin shots, back of the neck strikes, stomps to your opponents and even soccer kicks to the face. All these other traditional MA’s claiming they can kill you if they are allowed these moves in a fight would not show up or didn’t make it in the UFC ring.
Gracies probably adapted the Kano judo to suit vale tudo fights which was really important. But why do they keep repeating the same lie that Helio was fragile(he was a swimming champion by the way) and that he created the leverage in the sport? They were doing it in Japan, ancient Greece, Egypt, etc thousand of years ago!
@@ChoppedCheeese How did guys like Anderson Silva use Muay Thai effectively just wondering out loud? He must've used a different stance or something eh?
@@zegrasisinnocent oh trust me man..I'm no source. I'm just repeating what I've heard fighters like Paddy say. I wanna say Silva incorporated other styles into his fighting, but also just had most scared to trade blows with him.
I genuinely want a hoodie, to play Jiu Jitsu, shit, I want my guys T shirt... I'm a Northerner Pad... We see people.. But how fuck!ng lovable is my man lol
I have a good idea for you. I'm a 2nd Dan in TKD among other martial arts. I have helped train law enforcement in knife fighting. When you hear this you will say "why didn't I think of this". Make training police a prerequisite for their black belt test. Departments pay for this service, at a discount, and you get so much more of the market.
I have many martial arts styles under my belt. The number one form of martial art is Kuk Sool Won; hands down! It’s not well known in America but if you’re lucky enough to have a local dojo (such as in Webster, NY). It covers not only grappling but also striking (kicks and punches) to such a comprehensive level, it was MMA before there was ever MMA.
I'm more training for self defense in a street fight, would jujitsu still be effective for that or for weapon disarming like if they have a knife? I mostly just work my striking and cardio, but am contemplating whether it's effective for a serious life or death situation.
Jiu Jitsu is extremely effective, though I'd say there's no martial art that *reliably* protects you in the case of someone pulling a weapon on you. Even the ones that train for it, you'd have to understand that you'd still likely get sliced up a bit (at best) with a knife, and if a gun is involved then the danger from that is obvious. In a self defense situation there's a lot of factors that will come into play regarding reliably defending yourself. If there are multiple attackers for example, you'll want to stay on your feet and strike in which case Boxing and Muay Thai are fantastic. That being said, for a one vs one scenario Jiu Jitsu really is the best. Plus if someone takes you to the ground then Boxing and Muay Thai won't save you, it will take grappling knowledge to escape and get back to your feet. There's no reliable way to defend yourself against an armed opponent except to avoid those situations, but being able to fight and reliably win in an unarmed fight I'd highly recommend finding an MMA gym that trains you in both Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai so that you'll have grappling and striking experience to be able to adapt to different situations. Even just 6 months of hard and consistent training in both and you'd be able to run circles around your average person. Good luck and hope this helps
It depends. If the person has a weapon then no. If he has friends that might jump in then no. Pulling someone into your guard for their friend to just football kick you in the face from a standing position. Headbutts, striking and running are the three best option.
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu (the old school BJJ) was *designed* for no-rules fighting. However, all martial arts fail against knives. The best option is always to run, but GJJ does cover weapon defenses just in case.
Paddy love what you do, you need to to chatting pony with Joe Rogan.. that would be the best 1 yet. Rogan is very smart nd all is trained In multiple martial arts. So the talk will be very good
Paddy it actually looks like your starting to trim down a tiny but. I wanna send love from New Hampshire. You're an inspiration to so many people man and your using your platforms in all the right ways.
