I brought my boy to practise Judo when he was 7. I started to train Judo because of him at 36. Now two years after I must say that Judo stands above every martial art and sport activity I have trained. Usss

Great talk, great production. At first I thought "wow, he trained and was friends with someone like Kosei Inoue, must have been fantastic looking back to it". Then I realized people like Kosei Inoue always have people like Shintaro Nakano behind them. People who believe in them, people who make them in the most subtle ways, by being there. And there's tens of them for every Kosei Inoue that you see on the front page achieving the greatest things. The invisible people in our lives who make our lives. The people who also achieve great things, but aren't on the front page. One of the toughest things for me has been shifting gears to great focus when it's not something I'm doing out of my own will at my own pace (like practicing guitar, that happens when I feel like putting all the focus into it for hours even), something like judo practice. But judo has also slowly taught me about gaining the focus and listening, not talking and just doing the thing even when it starts to get exhausting and not letting mind wander and start chilling around. My sensei is just another student, almost a friend and isn't strict to the students. But there's something in judo that makes you want to be a better person and demonstrate the respect through actions, in a way that is not normally present in daily life. Judo has rituals that aren't mandatory, it is your personal commitment to judo and training and lifestyle. Bowing to the practice area, bowing to sensei, bowing to your partner, saying thanks for the practice to your partner and sensei. When you get to the dojo you step into a different world, you switch clothes, you change your habits. You start thinking about respect to others and razor sharp focus on training, that the struggle and challenge is for yourself and you need the focus in your execution to improve it for yourself. And I'm slowly learning to shut my mouth unless there's a reason to speak. I used to be a shy kid, then get out of the shell and then becoming loose and having trouble keeping in mind when to talk and even more when to shut up, but judo is helping with that. And I think in particular a sensei who's a peer and younger than me, someone who doesn't enforce the strictness and respect, so I have to keep my mind active and practice it personally. Before and after training you can be as chill as you want. During training you let the sensei do the talking and you just do (or ask), unless you've been asked.
