In this video, we'll take a comprehensive look at the complex world of organizational behavior, dissecting two crucial concepts: management and leadership. Although often used interchangeably, these two roles play significantly different parts in any successful organization. Through real-life examples, expert interviews, and engaging graphics, we aim to provide a clear understanding of how management and leadership function differently yet complement each other.
First, we'll start by unpacking the role of a manager. We'll explore how managers ensure the daily operations of a business run smoothly, focusing on planning, organizing, directing, and controlling. From setting clear objectives to efficient resource allocation, managers work tirelessly to create an environment that maximizes productivity and efficiency.
Next, we'll shift our focus to leadership. We'll illustrate how leadership is less about systems and processes and more about influencing, inspiring, and driving change. Leaders focus on setting a vision, motivating team members, and fostering an environment that encourages innovation and forward-thinking.
Throughout the video, we'll dive deeper into the strengths and weaknesses of each role, the skill sets required, and the impact they can have on an organization's success. We'll also touch upon the balance between management and leadership, showcasing how the best organizations blend these two concepts for optimal performance.
Whether you're a budding entrepreneur, a seasoned professional looking to enhance your leadership skills, a student of business, or just curious about the nuances between management and leadership, this video will provide valuable insights. So, buckle up for a thought-provoking exploration into the dynamics of management and leadership! Don't forget to hit the subscribe button for more enlightening content.

An old Drill Sargent once told me, the Queen has given you the title of Officer. The men and women you manage will give or remove your title as leader. Often the person in charge is not the leader. At a house party, I once asked a Colonel when you guys jumped on D Day, how did you figure out what to do next. (He was only a captain then). He told me that was easy. He leaned over and asked my Dad “What do you think Sarge”. This was the Canadian ARMY. The takeaway I have always remembered is that rank or title does not make you a leader. Others must bestow that upon you through their trust and respect.

Makes sense? It makes complete sense and no sense at the same time. :) THis is one of the best videos on defining Leaders I've seen. I have been teaching for 15 years, and I hear all the time about people who love their principal and great leader they are. I have never felt that feeling and then you used the example, School building, Leaders are teachers in getting to know and want what is best. Managers are principals make sure everything runs. That is the most true statement I've heard in regards to Leadership (normally referred to as Administration). Again, Love the video!

agree there are distinctions when defined this way but IMO many roles require both leadership _and_ management skills.

Howdy! Thank you for highlighting the difference between manager and leader. You are exactly correct when you mentioned some folks are leaders who should not be and some people are managers who should not be. I would love to see something on how older work force members (like myself) who have been both a manager and a leader (different jobs- but skills used interchangeably at times)- how we can adjust to working under "green" managers *and* leaders?

Leaders need management to back them up and enforce discipline. When leaders don't get that, they can't do that because they know they're hamstrung.
