Why is Mickey Milkovich one of the most Loved character on Shameless?

i think another reason mickey is so loved is that he’s one of the only characters that really changes, especially in the early seasons. when compared to like fiona or lip who keep doing the same things over and over again to somewhat ruin their lives essentially, mickey is one of the few characters who actually progresses and works to better his life

He is the BEST character on the show. Best development. Best love. Sigh.

i honestly think people who hate characters like mickey are the kind of people who see things in black and white and think that every person is strictly good or bad, which is so far from the truth.

This show would not have been anywhere near as good without Mickey. I understand why people went so crazy when we lost Mickey for large gaps at a time. His character development is both a credit to the writers and to Noel Fisher who portrays him so well. Noel can do the thug thing well but is also so gentle at times it can be felt. Award worthy acting, brilliant writing and perfect casting. I know he wasn't ever supposed to be a major part of the show, but thank God Noel and Cameron's chemistry made the writers change their minds and create a much larger role for him. One of the best characters I have EVER seen, big or small screen.

Mickeys caracter is sometimes so misunderstood and pple are confused with his personality change in the late seasons but actually this was his personality from the beginning , he just wasnt allowed to show off his real personality bcz of his abusive father Mickey is appeared as a toigh bad ass boy who doesnt care abt anything but actually he is just a big emotional softie who loves to care for the people he loves I loved how he took care of ian and didnt ran off on him Mickey is a great boyfriend to ian he isnt abusive AT ALL

Holy sh** i just realized. The writers brought Mickey not killing Frank full circle. In the end Rachel explains how she didn’t marry Terry because he killed her father. If Mickey had done the same Ian wouldn’t have wanted to be with him. Mickey’s character is fundamentally different than Terry’s, from the very beginning 🤯

I love them so much, Mickey is my favorite character, his foul mouth is what gets me through the day. Also, Groomzilla is so accurate, I was literally like, wow, for someone who had no interest in his first wedding, for him to get so worked up is not only adorable, but says a lot about who he is as a person.

Another huge reason why i think people love Mick is because he's hilarious. He has some of the best lines in the show, and his sarcasm and sass only grew with each season.

Mickey has the craziest character development. Like it may be the best one I've ever seen on tv. Not to be dramatic or shit but like the way he changes and it's still his character is so amazing. They literally wrote S1 Mickey and let him develop into a better version of Mickey over the seasons without changing him completely, and that is so fucking rare. His character is amazing ngl.

This kiss had more to do with the fact that Noel wouldn't kiss Cam while he was underage. It played perfectly into thier character/relationship developement. If you watched the british version Mickey isn't an important chatacter so I feel Noel's choices and acting is what made the character so great.

And...because no one loves like Mickey Milkovich. There is no end to the depth of his love for Ian Gallagher.

Mickey is easy to love because despite his horrific upbringing he still managed to become a mature, loving, loyal, intelligent person who doesn't wallow in self pity and blame everyone else for his problems..and he has stuck by Ian through everything even if he didn't always deserve it..

I mean, for me in 4-5th seasons Mikey acted like that(did everything fo Ian,even coming out) because he was scared to lose Ian.( Again). But for Ian that just was different. He thought that Mikey had changed his opinion about relationships and acted different because of his disease.(or at least thought this way after conversation with Monica). That's why he decided broke up with Mik.

Damn this is amazing! Mickey is the kind of guy who everyone admires. He is tough, both mentally and physically. He doesn’t give excuses, he doesn’t complain and he doesn’t leave you when shit hits the fan. We get to see someone who changed himself because of love in a violently homophobic world. All because someone gave him the love he didn’t think he could get.

I have never seen the show and I only recently came across all the vids on RU-vid about Ian and Mickey. These actors are phenomenal! I absolutely came away from the vids convinced that these characters are crazy in love with one another. It's heartwarming and it's beautiful. Well done!

The best shows are the ones with deepest family dynamics. It MAKES the story, explains the story, identifies with the audience. In "Shameless", it IS the story.

i think something important to note about mickey is the fact that he never does things for no reason. he always has a motive. no matter if it’s a good motive or not but he never does things out of the blue like some other characters do. every line, every action and every emotion he has is always backed by some sort of thought out motive or plan and when he does something intense and sudden, even that comes with a reason for example, when ian says “he used to punch me and insult me a bunch before we banged” as if mickey used to abuse him.... that’s incredibly not true and really hypocritical on ian’s side in every way..... think about it, mickey has never actually punched or insulted ian with no reason... ian has always been the one to either punch first or to provoke mickey into a fight. the only times we’ve ever seen mickey actually hit ian first is when ian is condescending or trying to get him to talk when he’s clearly emotionally confused and wants to be left alone... i’m pretty sure that ian is the one who actually insults mickey for no reason a lot more than he realized. overall, mickey in the first 5 seasons of the show was one of the only well established, amazingly articulated and well thought out characters that everyone fell in love with, having him removed from the show was the writers biggest mistake. i would even venture to say his characterization levels were on par with frank himself. they gave both men so much personality, focus, objective and it actually shows when you see frank and mickey interact at times. they are such well scripted and developed characters that their conversations just connect well. mickey truly deserves that spot as being so loved and valued and the show wouldn’t be nearly as good without him

If you think about the initial Mickey appearance, he came to beat the people who had hurt the ones he loves (in this case he protected Mandy). That is not a good way of protecting but in the rest of the show, as soon as he develops feelings for Ian, he will protect him and chase anyone who will harm Ian, in the same way.

Probably the most misunderstood character ever. Mickey is an asshole out of necessity and circumstances, but also has a huge heart and unwavering loyalty to those who deserve it.

The whole love=violence thing is totally this. But Mickey wasn't going to beat up Ian he was going to kill him declaring him as a "deadman." Since he grew up watching his father sexually abuse his sister he would be sensitive to that topic especially when it involves his sister. It should be noted that every time Terry would assault Mandy, Terry is "mysteriously" sent back to prison for parole violations. One thing I was curious about even after Mickey's character development when someone tries to wake him up his initial reaction is to fight abd defend always thought that was odd.

Mickey carried the fcking show let’s face it. after Fiona left Ian and Mickey were like the only interesting characters to me and actually had character development whereas everyone else was either the same or they got worse.

I can honestly say that I've never watched this show and I love him as a character.

I think Shameless UK's Micky Maguire is also an incredible character. He starts off as comedic relief, even stupider then Mickey is in the first seasons, but eventually gains confidence and even leaves the estate to build his own life. I love both adaptations of Micky, but I believe Maguire should always get a special mention for my favorite Shameless character of all time.

Mickey refusing to kill Frank is because Mickey isn't a murderer. Mickey tries so hard to live up to the standards he's learned from him father--delinquency, violence, toxic self assertion-- but when it comes to a crime you can't take back, murder, Mickey can't betray his true self anymore. He's not a murderer, and his fear for his own life is what made him consider murder in the first place. Once he realized that he wouldn't kill an innocent person to save his own hide, the only place he thought he was safe was incarceration. Mickey is one of the best natural people on the show, but his nurture almost turned him into an animal. His refusal to kill Frank is the first sign of his rebellion of the monster his father would have made him.

Now come to the main question. How can we not stan?

I only ever watched Ian and Mickey's story on Shameless- seriously, I would skip complete scenes that didn't fiture them. I can't tell you anything about Fiona or many other characters, but I know plenty about Ian and Mickey. In fact, after Mickey left the show I didn't even bother - they are only strong together. Maybe the best gay couple on tv. (season 10 was the only one I watches through)
